Empty shelves - how bad is it around you?

I'm currently visiting London, from the South coast.

Sainsbury's was a shocker

Whole fridges empty, with their shutters down.

Most other shelves a third full at best

Last time I went to the shops was about a week ago, on the south coast, and it wasn't that bad then, although I can't say about now. Some groceries missing, nothing like this

My local Tesco is struggling, most of the water/drink aisle is empty. Haven't been able to get a blueberry nutrigrain bar from anywhere in about a month.

BlibBlabBlob · 15/09/2021 19:31

Oh FFS stop with these threads, please!! It's just going to induce panic buying, and then there really WILL be shortages.

BuffaloHigh · 15/09/2021 19:33

I get Ocado deliveries and I had no substitutions in yesterday’s order. I haven’t been into any big shops but the co-op and tesco metro were normal. The co-op always has some gaps because it’s a very busy but small shop.

KellyABC · 15/09/2021 19:34

Been bad in oxford. All cow and gate fruit pots disappeared for 3 weeks in our locals and plenty of empty freezers and vegetable sections. Sainsburys deliveries are mainly substitutions.

TooBigForMyBoots · 15/09/2021 19:34

M&S aren't doing Christmas Food to Order here this year as they can't guarantee supply.SadSadSad

ceeveebee · 15/09/2021 19:35

I get Ocado deliveries too and no missing items or subs for the last few weeks

Sunshine1235 · 15/09/2021 19:38

East Midlands. I get Sainsburys delivery and haven’t noticed any problems

MotherofPearl · 15/09/2021 19:40

@niceupthedanceagain I've noticed a pita bread shortage here in the NW these past few months. Especially wholemeal for some reason. Even Ocado rarely seem to have them in stock.

DeletedByAccident · 15/09/2021 19:41

No sparkling water, hasn’t been any for weeks.
No fresh chicken breasts or fresh whole chicken in our Asda today, that was a surprise today.

Rummikubfan · 15/09/2021 19:42

No real issues, London. Although I have struggled to find small bottles of sparkling water but it’s such a first world problem I can’t worry about it

YoComoManzanas · 15/09/2021 19:45

No shortages. Supermarket fully stocked here in sunny Sheffield. There were some gaps last week or so but back to normal again now.

TheYearOfSmallThings · 15/09/2021 19:49

No empty shelves in east London.

Except at the small co-op near me - last Saturday I thought "OMG, this is what those people on Mumsnet were talking about!". But then the next day it closed for a refurb, so I guess they were just not restocking.

Badgercity · 15/09/2021 19:51

Lots of gaps in the shelves here, Cotswolds.

Mantlemoose · 15/09/2021 19:52

Central Scotland absolutely no issues.

Suzi888 · 15/09/2021 19:53

Wales- can’t see a shortage of anything.

thatsalovelystapler · 15/09/2021 19:54

Yes, there is literally no imported Japanese food or even Chinese stuff I could make do with in my local Asian supermarket. It always used to be well-stocked. But local Tesco seems OK for the same foods so I guess it's about a good supply chain.

Beetlebummmm · 15/09/2021 19:55

Wait…why?! What’s with the shortages?

drpet49 · 15/09/2021 19:55

Fully stocked in Sainsburys and Tescos where I live

DevonTF · 15/09/2021 19:56

Devon - I have Waitrose delivery - nearly always everything is delivered, with only an odd substitution. Tesco in the Town is fine. Morrisons - only issue is with a couple of brands of cat food.

TheLightSideOfTheMoon · 15/09/2021 19:57

West Wiltshire here. Wasn’t even aware that shortages were a thing at the moment.

That said, I’ve been unwell and not paying too much attention.

I know there’s lorry driver shortages. Is that why?

If someone has time to type it out as though they were explaining to a ten year old I’d be SO grateful.

GeorgiaGirl52 · 15/09/2021 19:57

Here in the USA

  • no potato chips (what ya'll call crisps)
  • much less selection of fresh fruit (no bananas or grapes)
  • shortage of beef and chicken and when there is any price is outrageous _ Chickens $8 each for just a basic fryer.
  • serious shortage of certain brands of dog food. Not even available through Amazon!!!
Zeal · 15/09/2021 19:58

Love the way the two posters from the holiday regions - Cornwall and Cotswolds - scare monger. It's like "don't move here" draw bridge mentality. Sainsbury's in Penzance, Falmouth and Bude have been well stocked on the days I have been in.

knittingaddict · 15/09/2021 19:59

I'm finding Ocado interesting at the moment. Gammon seems to be hard to get now. I wanted a gammon steak and they had none and only one piece of gammon that was very expensive. There have been other things like that, but can't remember what they were now. Definitely more missing items than there usually are.

Zeal · 15/09/2021 19:59

BTW I visit Cornwall and live on the edge of the Cotswolds and all is well.

OldTinHat · 15/09/2021 20:01

Went to a cafe this morning and asked for a sparkling water and was told they can't get it for love nor money. Haven't ventured into a supermarket for a few weeks.
