Unexpectedly, what would you spend it on?

No family needs. It's just me and the baby and he has more than everything he could want. No debt aside mortgage that's easily affordable. No childcare and just back at work after maternity so not a holiday. I have savings.

My father gave me a thousand pounds in an envelope today because he thinks I've been incredibly strong since DH walked out on us a month ago and "I deserve a treat". I've genuinely no idea where to start... ideas please!

Divorce?

Twocanplay · 11/09/2021 00:29

What a lovely DF. How about take him out for a meal?

mummaelle · 11/09/2021 00:34

Baby Zara GrinGrinGrin and maybe some new clothes for me

Winter121 · 11/09/2021 00:44

Teeth whitened, beauty / relaxation treatments / professional make up
Some professional photos of you and baby ❤️

Cheermonger · 11/09/2021 00:48

Go do the zip line thing in Wales. For 90 seconds you will feel like you’re actually flying, it’s like nothing I’ve ever done before. Makes you feel so alive and strong.

Nsky · 11/09/2021 02:48

A lovely wool duvet ( I have a two part one), great pillows and mattress topper, I find it unbeatable.
Maybe some great kitchen equipment?
Tho personally I’d spend half, and save half

midsomermurderess · 11/09/2021 07:02

If there is nothing you particularly need, or want, I'd save it. We don't have to consume all the time

DivingBoardInGuernsey · 11/09/2021 10:10

A wooden swing seat for the garden. Ours got loads of use, rocking gently with non-sleeping children (get a waterproof canopy) and it's still the "peaceful place" we all gravitate to when we need to feel calmer.

KeyboardWorriers · 11/09/2021 10:29

@cheermonger I really want to do that!!

RedDots · 11/09/2021 10:36

I was going to suggest life membership of National Trust but checked and it is £1730, wish I had done it when I was younger.

I'd recommend a wool duvet, lovely and light, got ours from Baavet

Like the garden furniture idea above

One of the best things I ever spent my money on was a couple of sessions with a personal stylist/colour consultant - transformed my appearance and confidence in the longer term. Used to take things into his shop and ask his opinion and knew he would be honest and, pleased to say, I had usually got it right because the original sessions were so good

Hobnobsandbroomstick · 11/09/2021 10:57

Personally I'd spend it on counselling/therapy sessions. £40 per session, £1000 would pay for 25 weekly sessions.

I've just got a tax refund of just over a grand and am thinking of finally booking some sessions with someone, but am scared and keep finding excuses to put it off!

HeronLanyon · 11/09/2021 11:53

Me too hobnobfor me to deal with lingering effects of losing both parents which I feel could be managed better by a bit of counselling. My problem is the choice and differing types etc. I’m allowing that to stop me getting on with it.

HeronLanyon · 11/09/2021 11:53

Oops meant to say good luck to you.

ivegotthisyeah · 11/09/2021 16:19

@roarfeckingroarr so kind but yes three dependants!! X

roarfeckingroarr · 12/09/2021 12:33

I've decided on:
Refresher riding lessons
Teeth whitening
Beautiful flowers from my local florist every other week or so.

I'm also going to replace all the wall pictures that involve his father and spent the evening on Friday going through all my photos to find the best to print.

Thank you all ❤️
