I know it's not October yet, but the Christmas forum has been active for months. So I reckon we're allowed Grin

I always find that focusing on Halloween is a good way to deal with the "it's not summer anymore" blues.

I'm not sure what I'm doing this year, we've moved over the summer. Where we used to live quite a few houses on the road get decorated and encourage trick or treaters. So it will be interesting to see if my new neighbours join in or if we'll be the only house with pumpkins outside.

So I need to try and find some events for the kids to go to, just in case. I also won't have my sewing machine set up in time to make costumes this year.

So what is everyone else planning? Are you decorating your house regardless? Are you going anywhere special? Do you have costume plans yet?

Hello! I am SO ready for Halloween this year. It's my first Halloween on Etsy so I've been listing lots of Needle Felted Halloween goods: earrings, ornaments etc.

I love an afternoon tea and have bought potion bottles, chalkboard, skull drinks dispenser and skull cups, there's black cake stands on Amazon and b and m do the Betty crocker Halloween baking sets sandwiches with beetroot will look on good food as suggested, going to make potions and also have ordered wax melts and Halloween bath bombs. Usually can't resist the pumpkin spice candles either. Bought some bedding and you can also get pumpkin towels from Dunelm and loads of cosy jumpers online but I have to draw the line somewhere!

Ahhh my people!

We do Halloween house every year and stuff has been sneaking onto the bookshelves and walls for the last couple of weeks.

TK Maxx always has some fabulous home decor stuff at this time of year like cushions and blankets.

DH and DD are making a giant snake from chicken wire and papier-mâché for the front garden this year. There will be snake eggs and skeletons too. We picked up a new full size skeleton from Home Bargains yesterday to add to the collection.

We did huge spider webs that covered the whole front of the house with 6ft spiders the other year and a day of the triffids style giant exotic plants/vines/flowers with eyes in them and body parts wrapped up in vines.

Lots of the houses round here go all out so it's always lots of fun.

My youngest DD won the fancy dress at a kids Halloween party year before last because of her big sister's awesome zombie make up skills. She was a zombie Snow White and she looked amazing. Nothing wrong with a bit of zombifying.

This year she wants to be Winifred Sanderson from Hocus Pocus so I'll need to hone my dress making skills in good time!

70isaLimitNotaTarget · 05/09/2021 12:21

you can also get pumpkin towels from Dunelm

I bought some black cat/pumpkin teatowels from TKMaxx a couple of years ago . We use a kitchen handtowels (not just at Hallowe'en Grin )

Payproblems · 05/09/2021 12:30

Half shrunk absolutely love the sound of your look!!

Payproblems · 05/09/2021 12:31
  • caveat... Didn't see the bit about body parts 😂
HalfShrunkMoreToGo · 05/09/2021 12:36

Nothing too gory @Payproblems just the plastic severed hands and legs that you get from places like poundstretcher, poking out between vines. Nothing looked 'real', so wasn't too scary for the kiddos.

PasstheBucket89 · 05/09/2021 12:37

love Halloween, marking here

want yo get to Tkmaxx there Halloween section is great

MedusasBadHairDay · 05/09/2021 13:35

Went into TK Maxx the other day, but they only had a tiny range of Halloween stuff, will have to go back when they've got more.

When we were clearing out the loft I found my old UV lamp, I forgot I still had it, so that should be good this year.

We have 3 within easy access, and they very much vary in the quantity of Halloween stuff, the best is the furthest away (of course) but is a combined to add and home sense store and they have loads. I got a beautiful big ceramic bowl with skulls all round it, which is now my fruit bowl and will be a year round feature.
MedusasBadHairDay · 05/09/2021 13:46

Think we've got a dedicated home sense store nearby, so maybe I'll try there.

Me and DH are both goths at heart, so it's not unheard of for Halloween decorations too remain in use all year round Grin

I love Halloween!!

I have decided to organise a murder mystery in the house for this kids this year. They will have to look for clues (conveniently tied around bags of sweets or cookies) and hidden around the house and solve the mystery. I'm very excited about it! I'm also planning a Halloween themed dinner with Halloween decorations on the table.

Antinerak · 05/09/2021 14:04

I already love this thread!

No costumes planned (Though considering classic Morticia and Gomez) but we do have the decorations out already, pumpkins everywhere, skulls, spiders, halloween bunting etc. The giant bowls of halloween sweets already need to be refilled...

Ah this looks like the kind of party inspiration I was looking for! I feel like we peaked with the haunted house theme but I reckon I could pull off a good murder mystery night!
KurtWilde · 05/09/2021 14:09

Oh Poundland has a good range of Halloween stuff this year, I already bought Jack o lantern tea light holders and a few set of orange lights, and an autumn gonk!

Yellowcrockpot · 05/09/2021 14:20

Tk maxx and homesense will stop thier halloween items soon, if you want to shop halloween from those stores, start in July!
Christmas items will take over the halloween within the next couple of weeks, sadly.

Deadringer · 05/09/2021 14:49

Why on earth are you all making such a fuss about what is basically a modern American load of nonsense. Just kidding, i love halloween!!!👻

If anyone knows of any kids events over Buckinghamshire way during the October half term that would be excellent. We were in a different county last year, so no idea what's good here.

@FloconDeNeige

We don’t do slasher-style gore stuff either, but zombies, vampires etc. are definitely in scope. My DC are 5 and 3.

My zombie doll was inspired by one I saw at Asda but they wouldn’t deliver it to Switzerland so I made one myself.

Pinterest is a great source of ideas too.

I think your doll is amazing! I’m inspired 🎃
DarlingFell · 05/09/2021 15:30

@ActonSquirrel why on earth are you on a Halloween based thread if you are so pearl clutchy about a frankly brilliant but not particularly terrifying zombie doll 😂

MerryHellbreakingloose · 05/09/2021 15:37

I'll either be heavily pregnant or that have given birth this year. I'm gutted to be missing out on all the fun.

I do need ideas for a Halloween costume for my son and my dog. It's our tradition.

drpaddington · 05/09/2021 15:41

We love Halloween! A couple of years ago we put the gazebo up outside the front door and decorated it, just bits from Poundland/ home bargains etc. All quite quite child friendly. DS is planning this years decorations already!

KurtWilde · 05/09/2021 16:01

I love your zombie doll @FloconDeNeige I showed it to DD11 and she's talking about doing the same to her old My Generation doll!

SirenSays · 05/09/2021 16:11

Love the doll 🕸️ A few years ago I turned one into Morticia Adams. My decor this year will be very gothic, I'm already on the hunt for glass potion bottles.
Halloween is one of my favourite holidays 🎃
This year we're going to a costume party on the Saturday, I'm tempted to go as Mystique or Queen of the Damned 🦇 On the Sunday I'm planning on hosting a horror movie/game night so will need a costume to match the theme, I'll probably pick Tifa Lockhart as its an easy costume or maybe I'll genderbend and go as Kratos.
