Are you stockpiling?

Are you stockpiling food, clothes, toys, medicines? I’ve gotten a bit worried lately with the news of price increases and limited supplies. Shelves seem fairly full where I am (London) but perhaps that’s not going to last? Can’t help but notice much of my food comes from abroad, not to mention medicines, DC clothes and toys, etc.

I’m a bit skint already but if prices will rise and I can do a bit of Christmas shopping for DC now I reckon I’d rather have it sorted.

@shouldbeworkingmore

I think if there was ever a situation where we needed 52 of anything before being able to get to a shop, society will have broken down to such an extent that stockpiling won’t help anyone. People would be looting and breaking into neighbours houses in desperation.

Exactly!

Are we really going to look out of windows see soldiers/zombies/aliens/tsunamis etc & think "thank god I stocked up, I'll sneak down to the bunker & enjoy my tinned peaches".

I can shoot guns & arrows & DH is excellent at hand to hand combat so we will be coming for your stores! 😆

I likely have 52 cans of things in my house. And that’s not a stockpile. That’s shopping at Costco. Diced tomatoes/tomato sauce/tomato paste, well that’s 32 right there. Then there miscellaneous soups, 3 each of kidney beans/black beans/ pinto beans. Some rotel, diced chilies, baked brown beans. I think 2 cans of pasta in tomato sauce. (That’s about 23 cans in that grouping) then there is the corn, Amd 3 tins of pineapple. So I’m at almost 60, without even trying. It’s not hard to get to.

I think that poster meant 52 tins of one thing, so 52 cans of pinto beans.

They might have, Poster they were originally replying to was saying they bought an extra can each week. No specification that it was all the same.

My point really though, was that 52 cans wasn’t as insane as the implication made it out to be.

I operate a one in use and one spare policy mainly because I buy a lot of bogof & offers. Also, I live on top of a hill and delivery vans get stuck on the way up to me if it snows. So I make sure I have enough for an emergency but I don't stockpile.

BadLad · 07/09/2021 09:01

That sounds like stockpiling though, except you're not just getting a couple extra of something on offer and get shitloads at once.

We like our cola and get and do get an extra couple of packs but taking them all not only from one store but going to other chains in your local area and clearing those out too sounds really selfish.

I took stockpiling to mean preparing for shortages rather than taking advantage of offers to save some cash.

I agree, I think there is a difference between the two.
