Was it really necessary for all those police and officials to go in and round him up, trapping him in his shed and leading him out with a rope. Why couldn't a vet have dealt with this, sedated him, put him to sleep quietly without all those people scaring the daylights out of him. I understand the police might have been expecting protestors but there was no welfare shown to this poor animal.

That’s the owners fault for refusing to get a vet to do it. I’m sure the police used a vet. It’s not like they just drove up, shot the Alpaca and left the carcass for the owner to deal with.

MondayYogurt · 31/08/2021 19:19

I need to know which part of a woman's anatomy has the alpaca zone.

I have been avoiding this news for a week or two but The Guardian caught me out...
Call me (too) sensitive but I have just found it so upsetting. He would have been in hiding - forever - if he was mine.

beccahamlet · 31/08/2021 19:21

I agree with PP. As soon as the owner realised it was bound to happen she should have let her own vet come and do it in a calm environment

Yes, same here!
JeVoudrais · 31/08/2021 19:23

I think really badly of the owner. Letting that spectacle happen. Absolutely not in his best interests. She should have called her vet out and let him go in peace. Instead she let him be manhandled but strangers, which clearly upset him and then he was put down with strangers away from his home and familiar surroundings. What a shitty owner indeed Angry

furbabymama87 · 31/08/2021 19:23

Yes I agree. Animals are innocent and he wouldn't have had a clue what was going on and been terrified.

We've moved this thread over to our Chat topic.
CattyMcNips · 31/08/2021 19:27

It was all down to the owner. She caused the shit storm and distress.

fucketyfuckwit · 31/08/2021 19:29

Yes this has made me incredibly cross too and I place all blame on the owner!!

FleasInMyKnees · 31/08/2021 19:31

Oops, thanks to whoever got this moved, it was terrible to see him in such distress and calling out.

OP posts:
whatagloriousthingtobe · 31/08/2021 19:33

Felt sorry for him he would have been really frightened

FlorenceWintle · 31/08/2021 19:34

What a bloody lot of fuss and lawsuits over a sick animal. Surely having animals put down is an unpleasant but normal part of being a farmer/horse trainer/dog owner/zoo keeper/insert anyone who works with or owns animals here. Why on earth did she kick up such a stink over this one?

FleasInMyKnees · 31/08/2021 19:36

I dont know why she felt he would be an exception, she eidnt look after him at all when he needed her the most.

OP posts:
GiveMeAUserName123 · 31/08/2021 19:40

She’s an attention seeker. When the result came back positive for the 2nd time she should have called her vet out, instead of causing a spectacle…..to make money form the papers.

mbosnz · 31/08/2021 19:40

That woman clearly didn't have the poor animal's best interests paramount, that circus did not need to happen. I'd have loaded him onto the float myself, and stayed with him, anything to minimise his distress and keep him calm. Poor Geronimo.

H8H8H8 · 31/08/2021 19:41

I saw a photo on Twitter earlier of the poor animal being dragged onto a horse box, clearly terrified. I’ve hidden the topic now.

Today’s events were COMPLETELY unnecessary.

Janaih · 31/08/2021 19:42

Saw her on one of the breakfast news shows, she came across like a right dick.

Foxlover46 · 31/08/2021 19:43

Saw the footage of him trying to flee then being dragged into the horse box , gutted he must of been so scared with all the noise , the strange people, the protesters:( I'm afraid if he was mine he would of been hidden weeks ago , poor baby

GentlyGentlyOhDear · 31/08/2021 19:44

I was so upset seeing the photos of this today. Just very distressing all round. Poor animal Sad

Classica · 31/08/2021 19:44

This has annoyed me. Yes, Geronimo was gorgeous and photogenic and I'm sure had a lovely nature, but he was a bovine TB threat and no animal, no matter how cute, is worth that. And it's shitty that as a result of the protests he had to be dragged away like that. His owner could have ensured a much more peaceful ending.

Agree OP. I saw it too. Poor thing, terrifying last moments. Utterly disgusting from all involved, caused unnecessary suffering in my opinion. Angry

I’m also hiding the topic and this thread and notifications are turned off. RIP GeronimoFlowers

mbosnz · 31/08/2021 19:48

If he were mine, he'd have been quietly and peacefully euthanised when it first became clear that sadly he was bovine TB positive.
