Super king size beds

about to buy one.. I think. However we have a small bedroom really and I wonder if it’s stupid. The expense of buying a new duvet , new bed linen , new mattress... is it just self indulgent?

I’ve measured the space and it should fit with bedside tables. No room for anything else though besides what’s already there. We only use it to sleep. Spent the day trying out mattresses and found one we both like. The question now is whether to go for divan or an ordinary bed with slats.
I would like the storage but divans looks quite bulky.
The consensus seems to be very much pro! Sleep is so important. We have a King size now but it just isn’t big enough anymore. A SK is only a foot bigger!

@SwimmingUnderwater have you considered an ottoman bed?
Much more useable storage space and don't tend to look as bulky as divan. Also if the space is tight the drawers of a divan can be difficult to use to their maximum capacity

Super kings are 203cm x 203cm in Australia. Is it the same in the UK? If so, a perfect square and you never get your fitted sheets wrong again!

I suspect they must not be a square in the UK, as no-one on this thread has mentioned this brilliant benefit.

The only downside is we struggle to sleep at friends/families' homes when we visit - we are so used to super king now.

Even some nice holiday stays - we dread the sleep a bit as we love our bed and need a super king one.

Roselilly36 · 31/08/2021 06:26

Definitely get a super king bed, you won’t ever regret it. We brought a SK when we had our first DS, as he wouldn’t sleep without me. Best thing we ever did, he’s 20 now, on our 2nd SK bed. SK bedcovers are easy to buy, never had a problem, lots available at different price points. You will sleep better than you have done in years.

Do it! Best sleep ever! Only downside is where you typically buy your bedding - I used to buy from supermarkets and had loads of different sets but they don't do SK size. But plenty of other places do they're just a bit more expensive. Having said that, Matalan do it now though haven't bought any yet

Ours are the standard bed length - 6 foot 3 inches - and 6 foot wide. So yes, you can get the sheet wrong, but Next always has the label on the top left corner so it’s easy.

If you can get it with a zip link mattress, it's even better

We have zip link mattresses. Ours is divan style with drawers and provides loads of storage.

@beddilemma

I'm about to buy one also but completely stuck on the mattress side of things. I want to invest in a good one but buying super king really ramps the price up even more and the risk of spending a fortune on the wrong mattress has me frozen in indecision! Would love to hear what you go for bed and mattress wise (and welcome any tips of choosing a good mattress from anyone!)
I bought my SK about 26 years ago when they were new out. It’s 2 single bases (attached by a metal thing top and bottom) with a SK mattress on top. I find the mattress size and weight a pain, I can’t turn it on my own, so it’s very soon going to get replaced with two single mattresses. Therefore it will be two single beds attached to each other.
Coffeeonmytoffee · 31/08/2021 07:04

Hands down the very best thing I ever bought

Yes , the divan stylesI have been looking at are all ottoman. I really need the storage. It’s really hard to find attractive ottoman beds though. I don’t want velvet or buttons . A lot of the material is hideous that I’ve seen. Went to three bed shops yesterday. Full of awful beds. So I’m looking online and that’s risky because when it arrives I might not like it.

We went from a King to a Superking and the difference was incredible. We got ours from a bed factory so it is made to our specification, chose the feet, fabric for the base and what the mattress had in it. If you look online you might find a bed factory near you.

We bought the children's single ottoman storage beds from this place you can ask for a fabric sample to be sent to you.

We have 6ft zip and link as when we moved into here getting the king sized mattress up the stairs was a squeeze. So we effectively have 2 singles zipped together. The zips are not on top of the mattress but tucked down a little way so you cannot feel the zip. We do have a mattress topper.

Both Dh and I sleep much better as the mattresses are not connected to each other. We discovered zip and link over a decade ago when we were in Venice and we slept so well. We stripped the bedding back to see what the mattress was and realised it was two separate mattresses, came home and started the hunt for one.

Superking bedding is a little harder to find in everything but lots of main stream shops stock it.

Friends of ours have one and kindly let us take over their room when we stay. It is amazing and I would definitely have one if I could.

MagentaRocks · 06/09/2021 18:55

Ours has arrived. Still need to put it together once the room is decorated carpeted. Mattress also arrived. It looks huge. I am so excited to have more space. Another couple of weeks at least before it is done.

I've got a superking sleigh bed and it's one of my favourite things in the world.

When I moved house I had to get the mattress upstairs, my bf at the time was helping. I thought we'd either die in the process from effort or killing one another.
