Super king size beds

about to buy one.. I think. However we have a small bedroom really and I wonder if it’s stupid. The expense of buying a new duvet , new bed linen , new mattress... is it just self indulgent?

As for superking bedding, as long as you like white or cream, you will always find it on offer it Homesense! Really nice quality stuff too. Consider getting a mattress topper too. It's so worth having an amazing bed.

Clarkey86 · 30/08/2021 21:32

Oh do it! Best thing ever.

Word of warning - check you can get the bloody mattress up your staircase. We have a fairly open hallway and presumed it would be fine but the delivery guys measured and had to abandon it in our hallway. We did get it up but we had to sort’ve bend it and risk damaging it.

That's not strictly true. Our cat pins my husband to the side of his bed, allowing him around 6 inches of mattress space. Which means that I actually get the equivalent of a super super king sized bed! It's like having a whole king sized bed all to myself![/quote]
Coudl your cat write mine a letter giving bullet point instructions, pretty please? I'd be quite happy with that!

Funnily I was there today and noticed that!

I love ours. Homesense donking size bedding very reasonably. And IKEA.

broccolibush · 30/08/2021 21:36

I’m clearly in a minority here but I hated the super king in a rental house I had once. Then DP and I would sleep on opposite edges of the bed with an arctic gulf between us. The bedding was huge and changing the sheets was harder than as a small child at boarding school.

DH and I have a king size. It’s fab. Not squished together and being breathed on as you are in a double but not miles apart like a superking.

That said my parents had a SK and us all piling in of a Sunday morning as small children was ace from my viewpoint then.

Impatientwino · 30/08/2021 21:36

We have never regretted getting our super king! We love it! We have an ottoman one and there is so much storage!

Does spoil holidays a bit though!!

We're currently drinking wine and having snacks watching iplayer on ours - 6ft 3 DH is sprawled out totally and is nowhere near me!!! It's more comfortable than our sofa and more space to spread out!

Mayhemmumma · 30/08/2021 21:37

Do it. Buy IKEA super king fitted sheets

SwimmingUnderwater · 30/08/2021 21:38

A king size duvet won’t fit though will it?

OP posts:
dopeyduck · 30/08/2021 21:38

It's worth it.

MrsPelligrinoPetrichor · 30/08/2021 21:39

Yes a king size duvet will fit but we use two single duvets so no fighting over the bedding!

Didyousaynutella · 30/08/2021 21:40

We have king size bedding on our super king and it’s fine. So you don’t necessarily have to replace. ( also recommend night washable duvets if you hate changing massive duvet covers).

EwwSprouts · 30/08/2021 21:40

We have a SK frame and two large single mattresses. Means I can turn the mattresses. Works a dream.

GoodnightGrandma · 30/08/2021 21:41

I wouldn’t be without mine, I love it !

ManxRhyme · 30/08/2021 21:42

King size duvet will but won't overlap the edges like the superking does. I saw some high thread count covers and sheets in Costco recently if you are a member. They definitely had superking sizes.

YogaLite · 30/08/2021 21:42

U only really need superking sheets, go for single duvets, far easier that way.

Impatientwino · 30/08/2021 21:42

I do hate changing the duvet to be fair! I'm quite short though and my arm span isn't massive!

I do fitted sheet and pillow cases DH does the duvet!

GoodnightGrandma · 30/08/2021 21:43

I really need to change my mattress, and not sure whether to go for one SK mattress again, or two singles ?

isettled · 30/08/2021 21:43

Buy the biggest bed your room can fit and the best quality you can afford.
Superking bedding is easy to come by

The only downside is making the bed up after changing the sheet is like an Olympic event.

Didyousaynutella · 30/08/2021 21:45

*sorry that should say night owl ( from the fine bedding company). Coverless duvets have been a game changer for me. Just throw them
In the washing machine and hand them on the bannister and they are dry in a couple of hours.

exactly the same here! the cat lies at his feet, taking up 3/4 of that sliver of a side and meaning he has to curl into a ball to sleep, while I enjoy the rest of the bed.

BellaTheDarkOverlord · 30/08/2021 21:47

We gave a super king but 2 double duvets on it so we don't have to share Grin

CornishTiger · 30/08/2021 21:47

Do it! Asda and Sainsbury’s do super king sets very good value

This is mine, bargin, love it. X

Elouera · 30/08/2021 21:49

Superking bedding is easily available from argos, Sainsburys, ASDA, tescos, dunelm, the range etc, so hardly hard to find or specialist! We often have a duvet each- DH gets much hotter than me, so having separate togs is very handy.

I'd do it, but what space is left in your room? Will you both still have side tables/lamps? Will the bed be pushed up against a wall, so one of you needs to crawl over the other to get out?
