Super king size beds

SwimmingUnderwater · 30/08/2021 21:10

about to buy one.. I think. However we have a small bedroom really and I wonder if it’s stupid. The expense of buying a new duvet , new bed linen , new mattress... is it just self indulgent?

Definitely do it - best decision ever!

TeaAndThenMoreTea · 30/08/2021 21:52

You get standard duvets x 2 then you get one each and no-one gets too hot/cold. We have different togs in ours too

Thelikelylass · 30/08/2021 22:04

You will always find me in these threads about superking beds ( sang to the tune of 'kitchen at parties') when i went to buy mine I went to the shop twice to try the mattress. They brought me a coffee as i lay on the one I liked. I bought it and asked them to give me free bedding and duvet as I was paying £2.5k for my bed. They did so happily.
M and S do brilliant fitted cotton sheets (deep for divan mattresses) and La Redoute sell great duvet covers in linen and cotton.
I will NEVER sleep on anything else now and if I move I will make sure I have a bedroom big enough for one.

Best thing ever.
I go to bed much earlier than DH. I never hear or feel him get into bed…he’s miles away from me Grin

Bedding/ sheets super cheap from Dunelm.
Go for it!!

thelastgoldeneagle · 30/08/2021 22:07

We have a super king and I love it. It's easy to get bed linen for it - everywhere does it now. We sleep so well in it!

northernlola · 30/08/2021 22:08

I'm in mine now. Best thing I've ever bought!!

EmbarrassingMama · 30/08/2021 22:09

Do it. I don’t even realise DH is in bed some nights - it’s glorious Grin

Fab for co-sleeping kids too, as and when they go through phases.

Hopesakiller · 30/08/2021 22:18

Just bought one tonight, can't waitGrin

beddilemma · 30/08/2021 22:19

I'm about to buy one also but completely stuck on the mattress side of things. I want to invest in a good one but buying super king really ramps the price up even more and the risk of spending a fortune on the wrong mattress has me frozen in indecision!
Would love to hear what you go for bed and mattress wise (and welcome any tips of choosing a good mattress from anyone!)

CiderFromLemon · 30/08/2021 22:20

If you can get it with a zip link mattress, it's even better. I have absolutely no idea if DH is even in the bed most of the time!

We co-sleep with 2 year old DS and still have plenty of space. The 5 year old occasionally makes it in too.

We don't have an issue with bedding because of the SK, but the mattress is around 40cm deep so fitted sheets are tricky.

My only gripe is that if we ever move, we have to find a bedroom big enough for the bed. I am never downgrading!

isettled · 30/08/2021 22:24

@beddilemma the only result way to find the perfect mattress is to go and lie one them. Time consuming but so worth it.

Once you find one you like, look for it online and see if you can find it cheaper.

Checkout cashback sites like quidco and TopCashback to see if you can earn yourself money off your purchase too.
Eg 4.8% cashback on silentnight

Didyousaynutella · 30/08/2021 22:27

Isettled if everyone did that the shops where you can try them would go out of business. Yes go try but when you find your perfect mattress do the right thing and buy it from the place you found it or soon there won’t be anywhere to try them anymore.

fluffythedragonslayer · 30/08/2021 22:50

Do it do it! I love mine. My bedroom is pretty much All Bed but it is so worth it!!

Davros · 30/08/2021 23:03

We have two single mattresses on ours so use single bedding and separate duvets. It's great

Sonarl · 30/08/2021 23:06

We've had one for almost 20 years, it's great. Bedding is no problem (but more expensive) - I tend to get it from IKEA or Amazon.

Wornout12108 · 30/08/2021 23:06

Definitely do it, it's fabulous, best thing we ever bought !

Nannylp · 30/08/2021 23:19

@Impatientwino

I do hate changing the duvet to be fair! I'm quite short though and my arm span isn't massive!

I do fitted sheet and pillow cases DH does the duvet!

Try this method....! www.google.com/amp/s/www.glamour.com/story/duvet-cover-hack/amp It makes the whole process much easier! I LOVE our SK mattress, I don't think I could go back to a smaller bed now. I'm not sure how I ever managed to share a single bed with my uni BF...!
Kollamoolitumarellipawkyrollo · 30/08/2021 23:26

Never had any problems buying bedding-SK is commonplace now. Never bought plain coloured bedding either but am tempted by white as it looks so fresh and smart.

It’s lovely when really hot to have the space and when colder the duvet dips between you keeping you warm.

The only downsize is, as pp said, going on holiday, the beds aren’t as good as at home.

Ticksallboxes · 31/08/2021 00:17

A super king sized bed and memory foam mattress three years ago was one of the best decisions we made!

We put an extra pillow length-ways between our two pillows too. I love the sensation of waking up in the middle of the night or early morning and not knowing quite where my DH is, then I put an arm out and still can't feel him!

It's only when I either get used to the light and can see his silhouette or can hear him snoring breathing, that I know he's there. It's been a great way to get a good nights sleep while still being together!

Ticksallboxes · 31/08/2021 00:27

Everywhere I know does super king duvets, covers and fitted sheets - M&S, Homesense, Dunhelm etc.

MagentaRocks · 31/08/2021 00:44

We have just ordered one. Cant wait. Have also ordered coverless duvets.

NotMyCat · 31/08/2021 00:51

I love mine. Bedding I get from la redoute, TK maxx, joules, Asda sometimes, dunelm...

When I moved house my dad was all "now if your bed fits.."
Me "WHEN my bed fits"
Dad "you can't start knocking walls down"
Er.. watch me? Grin

My bed JUST fits, I can't have wardrobes etc but you know, there's a spare room for that!

NotMyCat · 31/08/2021 00:57

You get the idea of how much room it uses
I have it to myself Blush

Super king size beds
yacketyyak · 31/08/2021 00:59

Fucking do it. You'll never regret it

OldWivesTale · 31/08/2021 01:17

I bloody love mine and although it's far too big for the bedroom I would never change it. We use a king size duvet with it and it's fine. Obviously you'll need a super king fitted sheet though.
