"A colleague came round the office yesterday with a collection envelope for someone in another team who is retiring. I've only worked there two weeks and I've never met the person leaving. Colleague asked me if I wanted to donate. I said no politely, explaining I'm new and I don't know them. She said 'oh that's right, you wouldn't really have had anything to do with them would you' and moved on to the next person."

"My DH's friend is getting married next year and has just arranged a week-long stag do in Prague in March. We have one DC under two and I'm due to give birth to our second in February. DH told me last night he'd been invited on the stag do but declined because we'll be too busy with the new baby and elder DC. He's going to go out for a curry one night with the groom-to-be and a couple of other mates who can't make it instead."

Any more? Grin

I went out for lunch with a friend the other week who had forgotten her wallet and so I paid. She's a good friend although a bit scatty so I know it wasn't on purpose. She's offered to pay me back but I told her to get lunch next time and that I'd remind her to bring her wallet. We both laughed

"I live on the same street as a school. Every morning and afternoon someone parks across my drive. I dont mind this at all as I don't drive so they're not blocking anyone"

"My neighbour had a delivery due but he nipped out to the shop for his daily paper. The delivery guy asked if he could leave it with me. I said of course, then sent DS1 round with it once I'd spotted my neighbour come home"

Someone rang my doorbell this morning. I answered it because I am a balanced human being. It was someone with a foreign accent asking if I wanted my driveway power washing. I said no thank you so he went away. I did not feel the need to report this on local social media groups as a scam.

"Which TV celebrities do you love? I think Amanda Holden and James Corden are amazingly talented and seem like adorable people. I bet they're really nice to their mums too"

I find 'The One Show' incredibly irritating, so I never watch it.

I went on holiday with a friend and her children. It went really well and we had a great time. Her kids are a delight.

A trans woman uses the same gym as me. The changing rooms all have cubicles so I use one. She is lovely and we occasionally share workout tips. I say nothing about this situation on MN because it’s not up to me to comment on other peoples lives when it has zero impact on me.

My child is really bright and gets consistently high grades. I attribute none of that to my nor dh's parenting nor our superior genes as we appreciate that such things in life are purely through luck of the draw.

Said bright child will happily find her own path in life, and may even decide to do an apprenticeship and not attend Durham or Oxbridge. We will be happy for her whatever she chooses, knowing that it was through her own mind that her decision was made and not ours. We have no desire to brag about her university status to our middle class friends nor strangers on the internet.

Ps the below is only half true - lest I'm accused of stealth bragging - dd has no desire to go to oxbridge or Durham and probably couldn't even if she wanted to.Grin

This is a delightful thread that I will intentionally bump it.

I was on the train with a large suitcase. The luggage rack was piled high and as I was hefting it up, a man offered to help me. Just because I'm a woman, it doesn't mean I can't lift a suitcase but I accepted his offer graciously - isn't it lovely when strangers go out of the way to be helpful?
