"A colleague came round the office yesterday with a collection envelope for someone in another team who is retiring. I've only worked there two weeks and I've never met the person leaving. Colleague asked me if I wanted to donate. I said no politely, explaining I'm new and I don't know them. She said 'oh that's right, you wouldn't really have had anything to do with them would you' and moved on to the next person."

"My DH's friend is getting married next year and has just arranged a week-long stag do in Prague in March. We have one DC under two and I'm due to give birth to our second in February. DH told me last night he'd been invited on the stag do but declined because we'll be too busy with the new baby and elder DC. He's going to go out for a curry one night with the groom-to-be and a couple of other mates who can't make it instead."

Any more? Grin

  • I had a disagreement with my friend. I didn't instantly block her because I understand it would be humiliating for someone to be blocked.

  • I got an invitation to a wedding. They are allowing plus1's and children, because they honestly want their guests to have a great time

M"IL" offered to buy the expensive garden equipment I had mentioned I wanted for DS. She offered because we don't live near the rest of the family and she is always taking her other GC out for day trips and buying them things here and there. I graciously accepted

SquirryTheSquirrel · 26/08/2021 17:17

My sister wore a white linen suit to my wedding. It really suited her. I had a full-length silk-embroidered wedding gown so there was no danger of DSis being mistaken for the bride.

multivac · 26/08/2021 17:22

My friend is getting married next year and has invited me to the wedding. It's completely up to her and her husband-to-be how they do it; I'll just be happy to be a part of the celebrations.

Lifeisaminestrone · 26/08/2021 17:22

It’s my wedding later this year.

I want it to be a truly special day for all the guests.
This year has been tough by many, so have suggested they ‘Come as you are’. We think the photos will look lovely!

I wrote the invites in my bath towel, so I’m having these altered as my wedding dress.

We will use the money saved on a wedding dress for bollinger.

There will be an extra special glass for my new MIL my ex DH and his new lady. We are all very good friends.

My Hubby went out for a few beers last night, I didn't ask him to check in or what time he would be home. Just said 'see you when I see you ,have fun. Not sure what time he go home, pretty late I imagine. Took the dog & kids out early for a long walk so he could sleep. When I got back I woke him up with a cuppa. He's laying on the couch, kids are playing on the trampoline while I make a roast for us all. It's been a lovely day. Looking forward to him returning the favor next week when I go out with the girls.

DD's dad asked if I would like him to pick DD up from school and have her overnight (and take her to school the next day), on the day of DP's much loved brother's funeral, as it would enable me to focus on helping DP get through the day without worrying about DD. He asked without any prompting or hints being made to him to do that and both he, and her stepmum, made sure DD had a wonderful evening with them.

"My 15 YO DC asked if he could have a glass of cola. I said he could.".

My buyers have asked for a reduction after seeing the survey. They’ve explained the issues of concern which they couldn’t have seen or known about and which I didn’t know about. I would have done exactly the same. I May suggest a slightly lower reduction, but that’s all. No stress. It won’t jeopardise the chain and I don’t want to lose them over something silly. They aren’t being CFs or trying it on or anything.

One of my friends does not have a loo brush in her house. I briefly wondered how she cleans her toilet but then realised that I am a grown woman with wide horizons and do not care at all about how anyone cleans their bathrooms, provided it is not with their tongues.

My DD's best friend seems to be coming on faster at reading than she is. But that's okay because DD is making normal progress with reading and is actually a bit more switched on with maths than the friend.

At the playground, another child tried to push in front of my toddler. I hung back as I thought it was useful for my son to learn how to deal with situations like that. DS said "hey, it's my turn" and the other boy said sorry and waited. I couldn't see the other boy's mum around but I didn't worry. DS had a nice time.

"My 17 YO DC asked if she could stay at her friends for the night. I asked her why she was asking me because she's an adult in a few weeks.".

I was dating a very attractive man who, unfortunately, had a temper. I made him wear a condom so I didn't get pregnant or catch any STDs. He was verbally abusive once so I told him he'd crossed the line and dumped him.

Blossomtoes · 26/08/2021 17:39

A guy came to mend the washing machine this morning. I made him a cup of tea and put the biscuits out and showed him where the loo is when he asked.

OnlyTheLangOfTheTitberg · 26/08/2021 17:39

My DP went out with his mates last Friday. He’d said he’d be back by 11.00pm. Around 10.30pm he sent a text to say they were having a great time, had decided to go on to a night club and he’d be home later than planned. I appreciated his courtesy in letting me know, told him to enjoy the rest of his night and went to bed. He was tired and had a bit of a hangover on Saturday morning but nothing that interfered with our plans for the day. I let him sleep in for an hour or so and then took a cup of coffee upstairs, and then he got up and we got on with our day.

VictoriaBun · 26/08/2021 17:39

I don't particularly like my neighbours and I'm sure they feel the same. If we see each other in the road we will both smile or nod and walk on. If they are out I will take in a parcel , and they will do the same. It's not a problem.

CovidPassQuestion · 26/08/2021 17:40

MIL mentioned how long DS' hair was getting, and how much it suited him.

We've chosen a Top 10 baby name for DD2- it's just so nice not having to spell it out to people, and our area means there'll still be a Wilbur, an Ottilie, and an Atticus in her class for variety.

LifesNotEnidBlyton · 26/08/2021 17:44

"PIL have a pond. We still let our DC go round there, and haven't told PIL yhat they can't see DC until they've had it filled in. We know PIL supervise DC. They have a dog too.".

FourTeaFallOut · 26/08/2021 17:46

I've never struggled for money for more than a heartbeat so I'm not actually sure that my advice to take in ironing, become a childminder overnight, soak beans and cook them for hours at a time and keep chickens is actually feasible or useful but it did make me feel like a fucking legend telling you what to do.

LeanneBrownsLonelyBraincell · 26/08/2021 17:46

I'm going to name my little girl Mary, and so is my brother and his wife when their little girl is born.

I have no legal ownership of the name Mary and it'll be funny when the two cousins are in the same room together.

SquirryTheSquirrel · 26/08/2021 17:47

I found an enormous spider in the bath.

I picked it up and put it out of the window, so it would be safe.

LifesNotEnidBlyton · 26/08/2021 17:50

"DH pinched my bottom today. I'm not going to "LTB", I dont feel "violated" or "objectified", and I've not been "feeling sickened". I actually quite liked it. We have a good relationship, and like being touchy feely with eachother.".

Mrsfrumble · 26/08/2021 17:53

An old school friend started posting conspiracy theory bollocks on Facebook, so I now hide her posts. I do the same with annoying relatives. If the “hide” or “unfriend / block” functions didn’t exist I’d just stop looking, because social media is not compulsory.

Saucery · 26/08/2021 18:21

My friend attends a church regularly and asked if I would like to go with her. I said no, it’s not really my thing and she said that was fine and didn’t mention it again.

SethInParadise · 26/08/2021 18:28

My children don’t have any learning difficulties, nor are they particularly bright. They are entirely average. I am unconcerned about what they achieve at school and am sure they will have perfectly pleasant and fulfilling lives regardless of their GCSE results.

SquirryTheSquirrel · 26/08/2021 18:31

I find my sister's DP loud and annoying. He's the sort of person who always makes silly jokes to waiters and so on, and sometimes when I'm on the phone to my sister he thinks it's hilarious to belch loudly in the background.

But my sister likes him and he was marvellous when my mum was in hospital, giving my dad lifts to see her because my dad no longer drives, and generally helping out.

So all in all, I can put up with his annoying habits and it's certainly not worth creating bad feeling over them.
