"A colleague came round the office yesterday with a collection envelope for someone in another team who is retiring. I've only worked there two weeks and I've never met the person leaving. Colleague asked me if I wanted to donate. I said no politely, explaining I'm new and I don't know them. She said 'oh that's right, you wouldn't really have had anything to do with them would you' and moved on to the next person."

"My DH's friend is getting married next year and has just arranged a week-long stag do in Prague in March. We have one DC under two and I'm due to give birth to our second in February. DH told me last night he'd been invited on the stag do but declined because we'll be too busy with the new baby and elder DC. He's going to go out for a curry one night with the groom-to-be and a couple of other mates who can't make it instead."

Any more? Grin

My friend is very wary of vaccines and has decided not to get the Covid jab. I am fully vaccinated. We had an interesting discussion about our respective points of view, then we had coffee and cake, chatted about other stuff and completely forgot about the vaccine.

AKA: 'How to get through life with a minimum of fuss and drama'. Or aka how to be a functioning adult.

cervixuser · 27/08/2021 08:52

there was a post on MN which I thought was a bit silly and wondered why they would post that so I ignored it and got on with my day

A friend is getting married. She put a polite message in the invitation saying gifts were unnecessary, but if people wanted to give something they would most appreciate money for their honeymoon. We were delighted with this straightforward solution and popped an affordable amount in a nice card.

iamtheoneandonlyyy · 27/08/2021 09:04

I've recently made a new friend. We have a lotbif similarities in our lives and understand each other's struggles.
She called me hun the other day and a few times since.
I have not changed my opinion of her and I don't believe I'm somehow better than her because of this

PricklesTheHedgehog · 27/08/2021 09:22

I had a foreign holiday booked.

I tested covid positive the day before I was meant to leave.

So I stayed at home and missed the flight because I knew it was the only morally correct thing to do.

It's really easy to get an appointment at my GP's at a time that suits me, and the receptionist is lovely - asking relevant questions then directing me to the appropriate professional to deal with my medical issues.

And it's always a pleasure to talk to whoever answers the phone as they're all polite and respectful, and there's never any waiting to get through.

"My DH left some used dishes by the kitchen sink as I was cleaning the kitchen. I asked him if he could put them in the dishwasher as it had a half load of dirty dishes inside. He did."

When my DSC come to stay with us they do little things that annoy me

I'm the adult and there's no need to blow things out of proportion so I let it go

MinnieMountain · 27/08/2021 11:07

I’ve taken my DC to soft play and it’s great.

(Actually me with my 7yo right now),

Bordois · 27/08/2021 11:20

DS has spent a few hours a day playing Fortnite and Roblox with his friends online over the summer holidays. Its great he gets to have fun and talk to some of his friends in that way and its good for me to be able to get on with stuff I want to do.

Took my dog out in a muddy field. He avoided all the puddles and came home clean and dry (I wish!)

Now come on! These have to be a little bit believable! 😉

My children weren't invited to a close friend's wedding. I completely understood their choice to have who they wanted, so asked my MIL, who regularly helps us out, if she could babysit. She wasn't able to, which was fine because she was going on holiday. So DH offered to stay behind while I went with our friends. The wedding was 4 hours away, but I didn't mind at all. It was nice to celebrate the day and to put some money in a card to help them celebrate in style on their honeymoon.

I wouldn't know a designer handbag if I fell over it.

My neighbours had a BBQ. They seemed to be having trouble getting it going and it was very smoky, so I brought my washing in quickly. It will finish drying ok over the airer. Now their food smells lovely, I’m quite envious!

My 18 year old, needle phobic, DGS really wanted his Covid vaccine to help protect our vulnerable family members. He asked if I would accompany him, and hold his hand. I readily agreed. He didn’t cow down to peer pressure and their ridiculous tales of doom. Three months later all family members are all still surviving 👌

This is actually my favourite thread in a very long time. So uplifting

PresidentJoey · 28/08/2021 13:28

My friend suggested watching the match this afternoon at a really expensive sports bar and booking a unicorn-piloted helicopter so we could travel there in style. I said 'Sorry mate, things are a bit tight ATM'. She replied 'No problem, I've got a bottle of prosecco in the fridge and a big bag of Doritos so we'll just watch the footie on the telly'.

GrouchyKiwi · 28/08/2021 14:39

I have to stop reading these. I keep thinking they're real and want to reply to things with "Awwww, that's lovely, glad you had such a nice time" or "what fantastic neighbours you have.

trappedsincesundaymorn · 28/08/2021 17:04

DP has spent the last 2 hours in a different room on his computer gaming. I don't mind because we had nowt else planned anyway.

RedRec · 28/08/2021 17:09

I'm a stepmother who wants to take my husband's children from his first marriage on holiday with us and our 'own' children.

ChannelJackieWeaver · 28/08/2021 18:34

MIL wasn't following DS nap routine when she looked after him and I was worried I would need to go NC. I asked her if she could try and stick to it and she said no problem and did.

I’m having a baby and have picked out a nice name.

My children go to their nearest school. It's not outstanding, nor in special measures. Noone fights to get in it, and no-one avoids it like the plague.
