Looking at moving there (currently north Leeds).
I know parts of it but not much.
Can anyone tell me which are the nicer areas?
We have seen a house in Thornes so if you know this area in particular that would be great!
And also opinions on the schools please, primary and secondary.

AnImposter

Got you!
Forgot that was WF4 too

So I think we are going to take the plunge.
We love the house, I’m still having a wobble about the area though

There are a couple of Facebook pages, Mums together Wakefield and Wakefield Mumbler that are worth having a look at for things to do with young children / babies. Might be a good place to ask more about schools too.

Good luck with the house purchase!

Isn’t it funny how you realise how much you love somewhere when you don’t get it?! Such a rollercoaster.
Has opened our options up to areas though thanks to all your inputs so thank you!

I love Ossett/Horbury and both have great schools. Ossett also has a 6th form but I'm sure some of the primary schools are split into Juniors/infants meaning they have to move schools at some point.

I went to Kettlethorpe and did excellent, then onto Ossett sixth form, again did great. I don't live in Ossett now as I was simply priced out of the market. I stay with friends there a lot as it has a great pub scene which makes a change from where I currently live.

Have you considered Knaresborough?

Quite a few of the LGI consultants live there as good road links, reasonable train service to Leeds, good schools and a nice community feel. Looking on Rightmove you can get a 3-4 bed semi for your budget.

Extraslice · 25/08/2021 22:45

@DoctorDonna20 yes we actually looked at one in knaresborough! Honestly my Rightmove alert is now set to ‘west Yorkshire’.
But this is good to know, thank you.

Knaresborough is in North Yorkshire

Extraslice · 27/08/2021 16:56

@DoctorDonna20 quite right😆 I have a North Yorkshire filter too!l to cover Harrogate and Knaresborough
