Weight and Hen do T-Shirt

I have got myself into a bit of a state. A very good friend of mine is having her hen do this coming weekend. The friend that organised it has ordered us all T-Shirts to wear. I did mention in a private text message that I had put on a lot of weight and this was my worst nightmare.. Anyhow, the T-Shirts have arrived and we are due to turn up, change into them and then enjoy our day. I am so concerned it won't fit. I have told the friend about my concerns and am going to collect the T-shirt tomorrow to try it on and see if it fits. But what the hell am I going to do if it doesn't? She said it would be ok, she will pretend she forgot to order mine but it just will look a bit obvious and shit won't it? Even if it does fit, they are not really the best for someone on the larger side, I would prefer something that was a bit more flattering. I can't bear the thought of everyone wearing their T-shirts and me standing there like a pleb without one on. We are in our 50's.

Those matching T-shirts are so tacky and common as muck. You should be glad of an excuse not to wear it.

Layer stupid shirt with really dark cheap Primark top.

Bump into person with glass of red wine.

Take off stupid shirt.

Voila. Night rescued.

@SpeckledlyHen

It is a white T-Shirt - I am going to drive over and collect it now. Husband has just given me a big hug! I have a white linen top which has buttons half way down the front, I think I am just going to wear it underneath that if it is not skin tight.
Option B: supportive husband accidentally drops red wine on it at home. So much for you getting organised and picking it up beforehand. Group WhatsApp photo of unsalvageable shirt. Sad face.

(He married you. He knows how upset you are about this stupid shirt. He'd cover for you.)

Best top is a good idea.

Dangermouse80 · 16/08/2021 21:35

Wear long floaty black vest top underneath. Fashion the front of the t shirt into a knot tie - front or to the side. Black top underneath will be slimming and tie at the most flattering angle. Will be so much more flattering than just a white t shirt.

After all that just enjoy the hen do and let go of any worries, life is too short!

SpeckledlyHen · 16/08/2021 21:47

T-Shirt has been collected. It is actually really nice, good material and a stylish wording (if possible) on the front. It was done with good intentions of course and a nice thing for a friend to do. However, it is too small - I reckon it would have fitted me about 2 stone ago.. But, I have hung it on a hanger with the white linen top over the top of it. @PragmaticWench had the genius (genius!) idea of cutting the back of it so it fits round my tummy area (this is where all my weight is). I will give it a try on tomorrow - but Sod it, if it looks shit I am just going to wear the linen top without the T-Shirt and go with having a good time. I will just front it out and say Lockdown weight!

@Galassia

"“No disrespect to the op but she’s a 50 something year old woman not Madonna.”

I am howling at this comment - thank you so much, cheered me right up!

Great attitude @SpeckledyHen, I hope you have an excellent time!

GracieLouFreebushh · 16/08/2021 21:56

You could cut the side seams, get a t-shirt or material same/similar colour then stitch a couple inch strips in to the seam down the sides. Or not - I'm sure you'll have too much fun to give a shit anyway

SpeckledlyHen · 16/08/2021 21:56

@FitYeDaeinYeMadRadge

Aww Hen

Hold fire until you try it on. It might be okay you know, your friend wouldn’t throw you under the bus.

You could wear a light jacket over the top, if it really is a bit revealing. If it’s truly tiny, wear one you are comfortable with. Your friends will want you there. You are more important than a matching t shirt. And I speak as a fellow plump middleager.

Thank you .

Thank you for all your comments and advice everyone. It has made me feel a lot better. You know what its like, menopause and feeling fat, middle aged and invisible all the time, some things just tip you over the edge a bit. I never thought a T-Shirt would bring me out in such a state.. Ho hum

Glad you found my comment funny!

The most important thing is that you turn up with a smile on your face and have a great evening with your friends.

I'm with you!

I'm tall and have gynae problems and a uterus the size of someone 5 months pg. (waiting for it to be removed!)

I hate anything shirt and tight that empathises my belly. You cannot relax and enjoy yourself when you feel like that.

I loose the magic hem idea of putting the picture on another top.
Also wearing the linen top.

I've also before worn a tunic type top that's loose fitting and cut the t shirt shorter and worn it over the tunic. (Which sounds dreadful but hopefully you'll see what I mean 🙈🤣).

Any good friend will just want you there at the hen. Thanks

WHITE? Fuck that. I wouldn't wear it. Guaranteed to make people look a stone heavier!

Friends hen do we just wore some pink she provided cowboy hats. At a charity we had to wear bloody teeshirts at events took pinking shears to mine trimmed sleeves, cut a deep v in the neck, cut up the sides so it was a tabard.

BastardMonkfish · 16/08/2021 22:54

Can't stop laughing at the Madonna comment Grin

I had the same problem with an 80’s event we went to. We all got these bloody T-shirt’s off the internet to wear and mine was too small. I stretched it by putting it over the back of 2 dining room chairs overnight and thankfully it worked and I managed to not look like an overstuffed sausage. Maybe give that a try?
