I am a cliché

Grin

Standing on the service station forecourt doing a few yogic stretches on our drive to holiday, I realised that I'm a cliché:

Middle aged Londoner, heading for a West Country holiday in my small eco friendly(ish) car, wearing a Boden cardi, and 'trendy' mum trainers with a flowery real cotton face mask dangled from my wrist. having eaten sourdough toast for breakfast. Oh, and carrying a chilly water bottle, natch.

And usually I'd be in France, but you know, Covid and all that. Grin

Anyone else a walking cliché?

I used to love the posts about the glamour sky glittering couple, until there was a picture - a doughy pair in matching polo shirts. Like a 70s darts team.
I haven’t been that disappointed since Greggs vegan sausage roll.

😂😂😂😂
I suspect many of the posters on here aren't leading the lifestyles they claim!

I’m not a cliche, I think. Makes for a very lonely life as I never fit in anywhere.

Like any good book/story - the casting has to be right, it's such a disappointment otherwise.

I think Hyacinth was perfectly cast though and it was genuis to have the very middle class neighbours on the receiving end of Hyacinth's striving to be MC.

The fact they were neighbours highlighted that it's not material items that provide the desired class satus (by Hyacinth, that is).

Those not from the UK won't understand the nuance of the aspring MC, but mainly they're a source of amusment - hence the sitcoms.

In their natural habitat, a Hyacinth will always perceive others sniggering as "jealousy" which only serves to make it funnier. So aspring to MC isn't taken seriously by most, just the ones that do take it seriously get a bit upset about others not taking it seriously. It's almost a Shakespearan level tragedy to their sense of self.

Just looked at self in mirror.
Stripy T shirt
A line cotton skirt
White trainers
Been body boarding in the West Country this Summer
Buy the Telegraph
Make sourdough bread
Hmmm...
