I agree.
It's sad times when a thread about a child being harmed ends up packed with apologists who are working the I'm not defending abusers but... lines.

ZednotZee · 10/08/2021 20:42

It's worrying the lengths some poster will go to when discussing a child who was groomed and sexuality exploited.

Correction;
I hope very much that you don't mind.

Its worrying the lengths some posters will go to in their efforts to support a member of the Royal family.

Theunamedcat · 10/08/2021 20:44

@ZednotZee

This is directly relevant as it establishes a previous course of dealings and the material social environment conditions under which these activities are deemed de rigueur and a precedent pattern of past similar conduct. This is a court of law not a court of public opinion.

So if there is a pattern of conduct which necessitates her previously being trafficked to other men, this somehow makes PA less culpable?

No but it would make me doubt any claims that he was unaware we all know how "boys talk"
LolaSmiles · 10/08/2021 20:46

I agree, though think it's not just wanting to defend the royal family.
I'd originally wanted to say it's worrying the lengths some posters will go to in order to blame children for their own grooming and sexual exploitation then toned it back. Some of the posts dress it up differently with obligatory I'm not defending him but..., but the content is the same.

Roussette · 10/08/2021 20:47

And I think she was rather more worldly wise than she lets on

Some of the victim blaming on here is vile.

A few facts... in NY State being 17 at the time was equal to being a child.

Let's remember Maxwell was cruising around trailer parks and schools to pick up young vulnerable poor girls to feed Epstein's desires.
Reports say some of these girls were as young as 14, and I read somewhere there was a 13 yo. They were promised money for more education, modelling assignments, magazine articles, jobs etc.

The trial will happen end November.

ZednotZee · 10/08/2021 20:47

Gosh, as a close friend of Eastern I hope we are all in agreement that he was wholly aware of Virginia's involvement with GM/JE.

We're kidding ourselves otherwise, surely?

And to what end? Protecting the sanctity of the monarchy?

Do me a favour...

You do realise I was having a go at the sheer amount of victim blaming that's gone on in this thread? Confused

Some posters might dress it up differently but the sorts of shitty victim blaming statements I posted is the content of some replies on this thread.

ZednotZee · 10/08/2021 20:51

@LolaSmiles

I think it has everything to do with the royal family.

If Russell Brand (for example) were accused of this exact crime we'd all be, quite rightly, tearing him a metaphorical new arsehole.

But he's a WC man of dubious history.

PA is Queenie's darling.

Go figure.

Viviennemary · 10/08/2021 20:51

It won't come to anything IMHO. Its very sleazy if they did have a sexual relationship. Which is yet to be proved. But he obviously has met her according to that photograph. But illegal? I think that would be difficult to prove under current legislation.

LolaSmiles · 10/08/2021 20:51

BPdanny
Crossed posted with your second post.

Roussette · 10/08/2021 20:53

Yes it is illegal. She was 17. In the State of NY that's classed as a child. A procured child.

LolaSmiles · 10/08/2021 20:55

ZednotZee
That is a fair point.

I find it hard to believe that this many people would care so much about a royal nobody (in that he's not got a chance of the throne and hasn't done much to warrant the public liking him) that they would blame a child for their own grooming.

There seems to be a certain type of man who ends up untouchable in the eyes of the public. Similar arguments were made when allegations emerged during #MeToo. I don't understand why so many people would rather assume women and children are liars or are really to blame than accept that some powerful, wealthy men use their powers for their own disgusting gratification.

Maireas · 10/08/2021 20:59

@awaynboilyurheid

Wonder if Sarah Ferguson will keep telling us how wonderful Andrew is now?
That is beyond annoying. Promoting that silly book. How much does she know?
Plumtree391 · 10/08/2021 21:04

@MotionActivatedDog

I mean do you think she had any belief that photo would be seen by someone who could help her? The photo was taken by and for the people who forced her to be there.
She said she wanted a photograph of her with a prince to show her family, it was taken on her little Kodak.
ClaraMumsnet · 10/08/2021 21:05

Sorry to interrupt your thread, OP, we just wanted to remind everyone that we do not advocate victim blaming on Mumsnet, and link to our We Believe You campaign – please do have a read. We will remove victim-blaming posts, so please do report any of these that you see, and we will take a closer look.

Totally correct, to the person who said he might sue her back Really ?
Did you see his interview? Lying toad
I don’t care that he is financially backing Sarah Ferguson’s lifestyle she should stop telling us all how wonderful he is when we all can see he is a complete sleaze.

Roussette · 10/08/2021 21:08

He isn't backing Sarah's lifestyle.
We, the taxpayer, are.

She is too much. There she was yesterday interviewed on Loose Woman at Royal Lodge grounds Windsor burbling on about her book. And Andrew being a good kind honest man.

Viviennemary · 10/08/2021 21:10

They weren't in New York though. AFAIK.

Maireas · 10/08/2021 21:11

I couldn't agree more, @Roussette - all this book promotion seems to become Andrew promotion and what a kind and thoughtful man he is etc.
Did she know Epstein?

LolaSmiles · 10/08/2021 21:13

I'd thought Sarah had faded into the background in recent years. Why is she being rolled out to defend Andrew?

Roussette · 10/08/2021 21:17

They weren't in New York though. AFAIK

Who wasn't? PA? Yes
VG. Yes
Whether they actually had sex in NY is irrelevant. The lawsuit has been filed in NY.

That sounds like desperation in defending him.

Did she know Epstein?

Yes Maireas.
Epstein paid off some of Sarah's debts.
A big mistake she says. There seems to be a lot of those... Hmm

Maireas · 10/08/2021 21:17

Who knows, Lola. It's this Mills and Boon book, isn't it? She seems to lurch from one catastrophe to another. Wasn't she caught taking money for access to him? It's all sleazy.

Maireas · 10/08/2021 21:19

So, Epstein paid off some of her debts, Roussette? Hmm
