Ideas to make the coming autumn lovelier ( or at least a little more bearable)

Looking out at the garden this evening I can see the light is a little more golden and the shadows a little longer. Autumn is around the corner, which I normally greatly look forward to on a hot late-August drive home through France, piled high with wine, well-read and dripping with idleness. I suspect this year’s bracing camping in Wales might just be a reminder of the rain and mud to come.

Any ideas to make the coming season a little nicer? So far I’ve come up with :

Blowing my birthday John Lewis voucher on a nice candle ( Diptyque Feu de Bois) and a couple of velvet scatter cushions
A houseplant for my bathroom window
Booking some riding lessons for all of us
Embracing the darker mornings and getting up early to walk the dog. Also, joining a beginners agility group.
Regular swimming and encouraging the kids to come too
A lovely bath foam ( I like L’Occitaine almond)
Buying good pyjamas and new boots
Planning some pretty woodland walks
Planning some good autumnal food (crumbles, stews)
If possible, doing a few days extra work and booking for DD and I to go to Paris. That might be wishful thinking as my summer energy ebbs.

Any other ideas welcome! 🍂

@JayDot500

I listen to a podcast called 'As The Season Turns'. It's a monthly 20ish minute podcast that sets the scene, captures the atmosphere of each month. It's easy listening for me on the first Sunday of the month while I make lunch. I look forward to it each month as it's educational and she's a nature writer so there's a lot of focus on nature Smile

That sounds lovely. Where can it be found?

@boogiewithasuitcase I listen on Spotify, but it might be available elsewhere too Smile

I found the podcast on my iPhone podcasts app. Great recommendation lovely and very mindful. I listened with a cup of red bush tea looking out onto the garden . Was very relaxing Thankyou.

How are my fellow autumn fans enjoying the season? Very wet where I am the past few days and not much change in colour of the trees. 🍁

Loving it here! The nights are really drawing in, I've had my spiced apple candle lit and our first couple of fires of the season.I also had a lovely walk with DD (11) yesterday in the rain, spotting the early signs of the seasons changing, catching up on each others lives and talking about the patterns and textures of the trees and bushes as we walked.
I've made my elderberry tonic, and sloe gin, bought cute little pumpkins from Aldi and made a couple of soups and stews. All going well so far!

Sounds lovely. Where did you get your sloes from?

Very autumnal here today, leaves coming down onto the lawn and the smell of a bonfire in the air. Making a casserole for dinner and trying to improve my dumplings (not a euphemism...) as I love them but they always turn out like cannonballs. Any tips or foolproof recipes would be much appreciated!

Awww congratulations 🤗

That book looks good, suitably spooky and autumnal.

I've read this whole thread whilst in the middle of renovating my kitchen/family room, living in chaos. Can't wait to implement some of these ideas. In the meantime, I ordered myself some proper loungewear from Next (18 months into the pandemic I decided to get fancy instead of slopping around in knackered old sweatpants 🤣). Tried them on last night and immediately thought of this thread - they are so cosy!! The bottoms are a bit more close fitting than I thought I wanted but they are so so soft and warm, and the top comes right down over your bum with plenty of room in it. Can't wait until my renovations are done as I can imagine myself lying on the sofa with the curtains drawn and the sound of rain on the velux windows, watching a movie.
