What free gifts with magazines do you remember fondly?

I loved the gifts that came with magazines. Some were of course crap, like no name mascaras and nail sets that had the magazine branding on them, utter rubbish.

Others were brilliant, I remember fondly:

Lipstick case with sugar magazine

A clear plastic tote with Elle, which I still miss

A small denim bag, again, Elle, which i still have

Various clutch bags with glamour magazine

Roomy beach bags with Red magazine

T shirts with Instyle magazine

Silk scarves, High st mascaras, bikinis

I really miss those little freebies. It's better for the environment that they don't do those any more of course.

Also, I really miss magazines from the late 90s, which is when I started reading them, they were great and many are defunct now.

You still get a free gift the odd time, usually with a bundle of magazines.

Easy Living used to have lovely notebooks. I have a Cowshed makeup bag, maybe from Red? I've got a Love Wisdom book from New Woman where you choose a page and it gives you advice and a set of Major Arcana cards with a little book too.

I got 50 "positivity cards" free with a health magazine a couple of months ago. So magazines do come with free things sometimes.

Cross stitcher always has a small kit with it.

@BunnytheFriendlyDragon I didnt like the eyeliner/ lipliner pens. They were really flimsy.

I got a Nails Inc nail polish with last months Red. Covent Garden Place the colour is called. Its a hot pink.

There are still free gifts sometimes. Its just really random and not as often.

Blank tapes with top of the pops magazine so you could record your favourite songs

A nice sized Cath Kidston plastic pouch with a star print. It's lovely, good quality and now being used as a diaper bag I think I bought the magazine for the pouch!

Maybe a lot of the gifts stopped because of cost. Producing their own diaries and notebooks would have cost something. And if less people were buying mags they probably couldnt justify it. Plus New Woman Eve Scarlet She Easy Living and Glamour have all gone. Sad that so many have folded.

Im half expecting Red to go in the next couple of years.

I remember getting the free NW diary with this issue. Christ where has the time gone.

@MercyBooth I agree. I think many of us consider Rodial to be a quality beard because if their skincare but I haven't been impressed with any of their make up. Then again I've only ever had it free with a magazine or received it in a set.

I still have unopened Rodial mascaras that i got free with Red. So i cant judge those. But the Rodial pens were terrible. A lip liner snapped in half while i was trying to get the wrap off. And with another the tip broke off while applying it to my lips.

I had a turquoise kaftan top with silver braid around the neck in around 2005. Not sure which magazine, something like Red. I've still got it although I probably couldn't get in it now.

Also I have a swirly patterned sarong I got free with a magazine similar time . Possibly with a foreign language magazine I bought on holiday .

I remember many of these; I used to buy quite a few magazines every month. I really liked New Woman. I still have a few of the mentioned freebies. Glamour had good free make-up gifts in the summer - I didn’t even realise it isn’t published any more!

There used to be so many decent freebies that there were websites devoted to what could be found each month.

Not a freebie as such but I always looked forward to the issue of InStyle with their best beauty buys magazine, which had a bit of a following back then. I don’t recall seeing Instyle on the shelves recently come to think of it, so maybe that’s gone too.

I've enjoyed the memories this thread has generated! I also have a blue comb I'm sure was a freebie but I think it was from a hair magazine - it's a Denman one.

I now subscribe to Readly on and off. I'm not sure whether I get my moneys worth some months. You can read loads of mags for free but it's online so no freebies sadly. I'm taking the liberty of putting a code on here in case anyone wanted to try a free month.

@gratedbeetroot I forgot about In Style. Yes the UK one is gone. Stopped a few years ago before Marie Claire did, another one i left off my list.
I didnt buy In Style very often but i do remember getting a lovely Murad face wash free with one of the issues i did buy.
