What free gifts with magazines do you remember fondly?

I loved the gifts that came with magazines. Some were of course crap, like no name mascaras and nail sets that had the magazine branding on them, utter rubbish.

Others were brilliant, I remember fondly:

Lipstick case with sugar magazine

A clear plastic tote with Elle, which I still miss

A small denim bag, again, Elle, which i still have

Various clutch bags with glamour magazine

Roomy beach bags with Red magazine

T shirts with Instyle magazine

Silk scarves, High st mascaras, bikinis

I really miss those little freebies. It's better for the environment that they don't do those any more of course.

Also, I really miss magazines from the late 90s, which is when I started reading them, they were great and many are defunct now.

I loved Elle magazine, 90s era
Real magazine
Company
More
Look
Glamour.

What magazines or magazine freebies do you remember?

My friends Mum worked for the company Global Mailings in Strood, and she worked nights sticking toys and gifts on comics and mags, inthe late seventies.Any excess, the staff were allowed to take home. Fab times in the playground. I remember one giveaway with the beano was a packet of Snaps (like the ones you get in crackers) Who the hell gives explosives away with comics?! We had carrier bags of those and the teachers banned them in the end!

@queenjaneappro

I'm enjoying al the love for the Just 17 comb!

Here's mine. The handle has been chewed (child or cat probably) and it's lost one spoke but still going strong!

In my first post I said it's over 25 years old but another poster said theirs was 30 plus - this is probably more like it! God I'm feeling old now!

Ohh, mine isn't like that at all.

If you don’t want it anymore so contact me here, I want to pay a lot for it 😊 just list it out om eBay or something.

I cannot remember the magazine but it had a pink blusher/lip cream that was strawberry scented and realLy nice.

LynetteScavo · 22/04/2025 07:53

A vest top that I wore for about 15 years. Sunglasses, which probably didn’t protect your eyes, but you didn’t care when you lost them.

I used to bloody love magazines. Red, Cosmo, Glamour etc - I bought once every week for the hour long train journey to visit my now DH for the weekend, and often another for the journey back.

I remember getting a pink bandana in I think an S club 7 magazine and wearing it for the entire summer thinking I looked just like the girls in the band when I was around 8 or 9.

About 17/18years ago I bought a magazine which had a free Nora Roberts book (Blue Dahlia I think) and from that book I was hooked! I have almost 150 of her books now, they're my prized possession and I'm determined to have every book she's written eventually 🤣

SDTGisAnEvilWolefGenius · 26/04/2025 12:02

I didn't get the free NR book, but am as hooked as you are, @IrishCharm. Do you like the JD Robb books too? I do.

Takenoprisoner · 26/04/2025 12:35

Glad this has been resurrected!

I have found a copy of Marian Keyes 'Further under the duvet' which is a follow on from her book Under the duvet which I got free with a magazine about 2 decades ago 😀

Have gotten started on the book, it's very much of it's time but enjoyable none the less.

I’ve got Under the Duvet which came with Company magazine. I don’t even remember Company!

Huge, bright orange beach bag with stone/rope-coloured canvas handles. It was beautiful. I never used it so I gave it away but oh I miss it

Company magazine was really great in the 90 to early 00s. then became this very pale imitation of itself, with a very odd layout and just lost it's way a bit.

When I was pregnant I got a free book called ‘sleep’ on one of the parenting magazines. The techniques worked perfectly with my babies and helped me loads with getting them sleeping easily.

ViciousCurrentBun · 04/05/2025 09:08

Jackie Magazine as a teen, free jewellery called angle bangles. Black and white plastic, myself and my best friend had them. She died 4 years ago and I can still hear us laughing at the daft accent we did for angle bangles like it was yesterday. Had known her for 42 years.

JojoM1981 · 04/05/2025 09:21
