Restaurant portion sizes are huge

Paq · 31/07/2021 22:05

Does anyone else find this? Went to a pub/restaurant last night and the portion sizes were insane. I managed a third of my salad, brought the rest home and shared it with DH for lunch today. DD got through half her curry and 6'1" hollow legged DH just about managed to finish his risotto but then felt overstuffed all night.

Last post @PurpleDaisies
I’ll believe that when I see it.
grasstreeleaf · 03/08/2021 21:02

I know about customer’s tastes having worked in restaurants over a lot of year

Things change.

PurpleDaisies · 03/08/2021 21:04

I thought you’d made your last post to me.

grasstreeleaf · 03/08/2021 21:07

@PurpleDaisies
I suspect you know full well I meant I was referring to the last post I had made and indicating it was addressed at you but then that would make you extremely petty, wouldn't it?

grasstreeleaf · 03/08/2021 21:10

@PurpleDaisies and it's great that you can intuitively balance your food intake and remain a healthy weight but for people whose intuition has been a bit off in the past regarding how much / what to eat more structure in developing good habits often helpful.

How on earth do you know when I last worked in a restaurant?

I don't need to know that to know that food tastes do change over time.

Huh? I do not understand where you’re coming from here at all.

You ask me how I know about customers’ tastes and are now telling me that things have changed without having any idea when the last time I was in a kitchen.

Bizarre.

grasstreeleaf · 03/08/2021 21:24

@PurpleDaisies, things have changed, things will change. The only constant in life is change. Definitive of life itself, change.

PurpleDaisies · 03/08/2021 21:31

I have seen them change over the many years I have worked in restaurants.

That is how I know about customers’ tastes.

@PurpleDaisies, so what do you predict is the next big trend in restaurant / pub food?

PurpleDaisies · 03/08/2021 21:35

I’m not engaging with you any more. I can see someone just out for an argument.

LolaSmiles · 03/08/2021 22:22

so what do you predict is the next big trend in restaurant / pub food?
Under 600 calorie mains, lashings of salad, non-starchy vegetables, followed by tiny slices of cake and mini ramekins of crumble. All calories will be on the menu, along with all the food group information.

Do I win the thread GrinWink

EspressoDoubleShot · 03/08/2021 22:36

Next big trend?Restarants will provide Haulage to transport the gargantuan portions. Salads so huuuuge they couldn’t fill up a WWE champion
You’ll make your online booking and chose your delivery option for the a artery busting even 3 ground worker couldn’t eat it one portion dinner

Or hamleys will open Ickle restaurants with thimble of soup, sliver of cake and 400 calorie tiny dinners for the masses of people who really really want to eat of shrunken crockery

grasstreeleaf · 03/08/2021 22:39

@LolaSmiles is a winner!🌟✨⭐️✨🌟 She's finally got it right!

grasstreeleaf · 03/08/2021 22:42

Nice try @EspressoDoubleShot but both options are just too out there. Won't take off I'm afraid. We'll all be heading to Lola's.

EspressoDoubleShot · 03/08/2021 22:48

I like social convivial diners not calorie counting and terse scrutiny in case anyone exceeds 600 calories
So no, it’s a definitive no from me to that gaff

MrsMaizel · 03/08/2021 22:48

Grasstreeleaf sounds very hangry . Think she needs a massive 🥗 😅

LolaSmiles · 03/08/2021 22:50

EspressoDoubleShot what you have to realise is that grass knows all. Their way of eating is right, will solve the obesity problem and everyone else needs to learn from their wisdom.

No need for customers to count up during dinner. There's no nasty surprises such as a Piri Chicken Burger meal that is more than the calorie you burn in a whole day even when you've run 10k and walked 5k. You can trust all the meals to be a good option and any counting up can be done ahead of time. So everyone can relax and convivially reigns once more!

I don't get 'hangry' and I ate a massive salad earlier with my chilli con carne, thank you. Very nice it was too.Smile

Aka the people who want to count calories and have their own food hangups don't have to because they want their preferences to be the default, as the idea that people might adjust calories and activity over the day/week is too mind-blowing for them.

grasstreeleaf · 03/08/2021 22:58

@LolaSmiles, very kind of you to say that but I am continually learning. Wink

grasstreeleaf · 03/08/2021 23:05

the idea that people might adjust calories and activity over the day/week is too mind-blowing for them.

Not mind blowing but alas difficult if faced with rogue Piri Piri Chicken type meals of over 2400 calories that they never suspected were so calorific every week when that is what they burn in a day even doing a significant amount of exercise. Over a year they find they're unwittingly putting on 20lb....

Surprising how many people seem to get caught up in that type of trap. I am not alone in that.
