Fabric Conditioner?

Who uses it? Why?

OP posts:
StevieNix · 20/07/2021 22:45

I only use it on bedding,
I do add a capful of zoflora to the drum if it’s gym clothes (or DH’s sweaty socks)
Anything else I prefer without, and I actually prefer a scratch towel

TheGenealogist · 20/07/2021 22:47

Never used it. Pointless stuff which leaves an oily residue and stinks to high heaven.

sanityisamyth · 20/07/2021 22:53

I use the fairy fabric softener. I can't stand scratchy stuff clothes, towels or bedding.

userxx · 20/07/2021 22:53

Love the smell of fabric conditioner, I'm fully addicted to the stuff.

NavigatingAdolescence · 20/07/2021 22:53

I love the smell of line dried washing. If I do ever use conditioner, which is extremely occasionally, I use an eco one. Mainly because they don’t use tallow (animal fat) which all the heavily scented ones do. Never understood why anyone would want to smother their clothes in lard. 🤷🏻‍♀️

White vinegar instead of conditioner for towels. Makes them lovely and fluffy and absorbent. Conditioner makes them non-absorbant.
MaMelon · 21/07/2021 06:59

White vinegar made no difference at all for me. I used it a few times on my towels after reading about its wonders on here - nothing. Soft water area here.

@GirlAloud

It’s interesting that people are actually admitting that they have been brainwashed by Unilever’s marketing department! At least they are honest...

I guess ‘free problem with every solution’ really is a thing, as corporations think up ever more ingenious ways to sell us ever more pointless crap that we didn’t realise we needed.

It was sarcasm.
PrettyBlunt · 21/07/2021 07:08

Because I like the smell.

OverTheWater · 21/07/2021 07:08

I use it for line dried clothes, makes them fractionally softer.

I use ecover or method from the refill shops. Can't get on with lenor etc.

Orchidflower1 · 21/07/2021 07:13

@JennieLee so do you?

purplesequins · 21/07/2021 07:13

I use it only for some items (mainly bedding) for the scent.
I also use it diluted with water in a spray bottle as sort of freebreeze.

purplesequins · 21/07/2021 07:14

under ama (ask me anything) is a thread about detergent and also fabric softener is explained.

BarbaraofSeville · 21/07/2021 07:19

It definitely makes clothes less creased so I use it. I only put a small amount in each wash and I'd be surprised if we used more than about 2 bottles a year, because it seems to last forever, so the cost is negligible, particularly as we buy it in Aldi.

We get the unscented one with a picture of a baby on it because, despite DPs appearance as a big burly bloke, he has very delicate skin and normal ones cause irritation.

But what I am confused about is the number of people on here who think it is completely unnecessary and that they are somehow smarter than the sheep who have been duped into using it.

Spidey66 · 21/07/2021 07:19

I was brainwashed too not by Lever but by my mum.

I like the smell, the softness and the less static if they're in the dryer.

Sparklingbrook · 21/07/2021 07:32

@JennieLee

Who uses it? Why?
I do. Why do you ask?
AlaskaThunderfuckHiiiiiiiii · 21/07/2021 07:46

Softness, fragrance and less ironing

I use smol capsules and conditioner they are heavenly

KingdomScrolls · 21/07/2021 07:55

Most people use it and the why is ridiculous, clearly because they like the smell and don't want crunchy clothes and bedding

Sparklingbrook · 21/07/2021 07:57

Is this going to be the first in a series of pointless questions? Confused

TroysMammy · 21/07/2021 08:01

I don't want to add unnecessary chemicals to the water system or myself.

Marguerite2000 · 21/07/2021 08:02

I haven't used it for 30 years. It's what you're used to really, I prefer my washing without. I find drying on hangers removes the need for most ironing. I only iron a couple of things now.

Sparklingbrook · 21/07/2021 08:03

Perhaps the next one could be

Ironing. Who does it? Why?

LawnFever · 21/07/2021 08:05

@GirlAloud

I don’t use it, never have. Partly because I can’t stand floral smells, but mostly because I regard it as a waste of money.
Same, never seen the point and the smell of it makes me feel a bit queasy, I just want my clothes/bedding to be clean I don’t need/want it to smell of anything.
MaMelon · 21/07/2021 08:05

Spray or roll on deodorant. Who uses it? Why?

bigbluebus · 21/07/2021 08:08

I use it because we live in hard water area and our dried clothes would stand up on their own if I didn't use it.
