One finger? Two fingers? Whole hand?!

I go with the whole hand. I'd like to be a 2 finger person but I worry about not getting it right and looking weird. You have to keep your fingers together if you're using 2.

Just thought about it this morning as I was at it non stop down the 15 mile one lane road to Loch Etive.

So how do you thank other drivers? Anybody do the grin and 2 thumbs up "fandabidozy" style?

Yep, 4 fingers, thumb under the wheel.

DP, if turning right and is let out, sticks his whole arm as far across me as he can to put his hand up to the side window.

The temptation to yank his arm off and hit him with the soggy end is strong.

Jeez this. It’s like he wants to get into their car and high five.

I do the Donegal hand wave.

My daughter tells me I'm an insane driver.
I'm not but most of the time she's in the car with me we are on the M8 through Glasgow which someone on here recently described as akin to Wacky Races.
You've no choice but to join in, or you'll end up on the wrong road, stuck in traffic, or crying!
It's basically do whatever you have to do whilst thanking people, (whole hand), to piss them off the least, and light flashes to let people in/get them to move.

"light flash" = just your top half? I think a full-on flash might be logistically tricky while driving.

Four fingers with thumb on the steering wheel for me but if someone lets me out I will hold up my whole hand between the seats once I am in front of them they are behind me.

If I was lucky enough to be driving along the single vehicle road to Loch Etive I would use both hands and wave them out of the window with pure joy! And I'd hang out some bunting! One of my favourite places, you lucky thing!

I favour an arm extended toward the windscreen with hand as big and straight up as possible and a sharp shaky side to side wave plus a big smiley thankyouuuuuuuuuuuuuu ...especially when I am determined to get my way. Makes them think they somehow let you in :o
DH says I am defensive driver

If someone has tried to run me off the road make out they had right of way when in fact they most certainly did not I give a polite nod and just raise fingers, keeping thumb on steering wheel, just to pee them off. This is usually doled out to the school mums who like to try and pull out of a side road, and turn left downhill and then pull out to get passed a whole row of parked cars on their side and try to make out they have ROW as I am trying to drive up hill.
That gesture is also reserved for folks who won't use a passing place properly., they have to learn somehow.

When I’m driving with the roof down I stick my hand up & wave over the top of the windscreen.

I do this too, if I am in my car!

Loooook I have the roof down!!

Anyway, on the more mundane meaning, I either flash my lights or smile and whole hand

Sometimes I do a couple of fingers, sometimes I like to put my hand right up and if the person has let me go all the way I like to mouth thankyou at them while putting my hand up

2 fingers mostly. Flash lights if dark, flash emergency lights if someone lets me in in front of them.
