That poor poor girl. So much pressure for her at her age and then for her journey to end like that! Absolutely gut wrenching, I hope she's OK.

Regardless of the cause of her illness I think she's done incredibly well and should be extremely proud of herself. The first time at a big match like that will always be a huge amount of pressure. I hope she is ok

skodadoda · 06/07/2021 17:29

@giletrouge

I see Piers Morgan has found himself a new young woman to bully. What a prick he is. Wish he would shut the fuck up.
Yes indeed. Once in a blue moon I admire the way he challenges people. The rest of the time he has a big mouth, small mind, and doesn’t know when to keep one shut and the other open.
TSSDNCOP · 06/07/2021 17:51

I had to turn the match off after set 1, she looked very short of breath and really not well. It wasn't nice to watch and I hope she's ok because I think if she had been she'd have had a good chance of doing well in that match.

Crockof · 06/07/2021 17:53

I thought she was really good in the interview with Sue Barker, honest and down to earth. Biggest crowd before Wimbledon was around 100.

IcedSpice · 06/07/2021 17:53

Who?

TSSDNCOP · 06/07/2021 17:54

And as someone that watched many McEnroe games I can honestly say he was not good under pressure. He'd likely say it was part of his game but frankly he looked like a diva-prick.

TheMarzipanDildo · 06/07/2021 17:58

Rather unpleasant from Piers Morgan there. I didn’t think McEnroe said anything too horrifying, but it did come across as a bit smug.

SpindleWhorl · 06/07/2021 17:59

All Piers Morgan had to do was wish her well, and say Better Luck Next Time, or something similar.

Oblomov21 · 06/07/2021 18:00

Surely she's played tennis for years and her coach prepared her mentally for Wimbledon. It's a shame she was mentally overwhelmed, I would expect her to be stronger mentally, because in tennis all the losses make you stronger.

Pinuporc · 06/07/2021 18:02

I thought she looked very uncomfortable and possibly having a panic attack/anxiety attack.

I thought she played really well but was a huge stage and a huge amount of pressure, yesterday as the one remaining brit in the tournament, and scheduled last, for tv coverage (especially as it's her first major tournament)
I thought it was unfair to interview the other player immediately afterwards as well, theres not a lot she could say, and although she may well have won the match anyway, it's not the sort of victory an opponent would want.

And Piers Morgan is just being a tit as normal. He and Lawrence Fox deserve to be locked in a cupboard somewhere with only their own egos for company.

MistySkiesAfterRain · 06/07/2021 18:05

I'm concerned about her lung function, hope she gets that properly checked out.

AlfonsoTheMango · 06/07/2021 18:07

I think she's done fantastically well and I hope to see her at Wimbledon again.

Didn’t he storm out of a studio once when he decided he didn’t like the way it was going?

Hardly one to throw that particular stone, I’d have thought.

D0D0 · 06/07/2021 18:13

Meant to quote @skodadoda ‘s post there, not @giletrouge

I don't think you can mentally prepare for going from a complete unknown to being headline news in the space of about two days, at aged 18. Don't be ridiculous.
GlencoraP · 06/07/2021 18:19

She has only played two matches on the tour before Wimbledon, she was given a wild card and no one expected her to get through the first round. And certainly not past the first week. Added to which she has had the pressure of having to stay in the Covid bubble with no access to family support etc .

FlibbertyGiblets · 06/07/2021 18:20

@IcedSpice

Who?
So dismissive. I'm sorry your tennis career never got going.
megletthesecond · 06/07/2021 18:20

Mac used to have tantrums under pressure.

Raducanu has had a massive and public learning curve. She seems smart enough that she'll learn from it and come back stronger. And without tantrums, unlike some players.

Pinuporc · 06/07/2021 18:22

Completely agree.
The actual tennis is really secondary to that.

nocoolnamesleft · 06/07/2021 18:22

McEnroe couldn't come under pressure without having a full on temper tantrum, in his day. He doesn't have a leg to stand on to comment.

Ah, the memories!

THERE WAS CHALK DUST, MAN!!

Oblomov21 · 06/07/2021 18:27

She has won three singles titles on the ITF Circuit.

SquashMinusIsShit · 06/07/2021 18:30

I think she did brilliantly, I hope she's ok. She's definitely one to watch!

leanmeancoffeebean · 06/07/2021 18:30

@Oblomov21

Did she make the front page of every major paper when that happened? Must have missed it.
GlencoraP · 06/07/2021 18:32

It’s hardly comparable to no1 court at Wimbledon for a British player with the whole country’s press focused on you , and wasn’t that at junior level . The main tour is very different . Anyway no one can know how they will react , another very experienced player vomited on court earlier in the week as did Pete Sampras once .
