I just epilated my legs for the first time

And what the fuck is pretty much all I can say!Shock How do you get used to that!? I knew it was going to hurt but didn’t expect that! I have PCOS so have really thick dark hairs which I don’t think helps me. Please tell me it gets better/easier otherwise I think I might have to give up and be hairyGrin

I've never been brave enough to try, this thread confirms that Blush

I would definitely buy a Lumea if I could though - but it wouldn't work for me 👩🏻‍🦰 cries in redhead

How much does lasering cost?

randomkey123 · 04/07/2021 21:44

It really does get better....... I can now do my legs once a month, and underarms every 2 to 3 weeks. The hairs get finer, and you just get used to it.

I can't do my upper legs though or bikini line.

It does get much easier on the legs.

I still hate doing under my arms though- have to do them really gradually, just taking thin lines off the edges. There are usually still some follicles which bleed, and sometimes they're still too sore to use deodorant the next day.

Glovesandscarf · 04/07/2021 22:08

Actually I’m probably due a bee epilator, does anyone have any recommendations? I think I bought my current Remington for £20’from tkmaxx!

DaphneMoonsSeattle · 04/07/2021 22:15

I use mine on my neck. First time gave me quite the rash. First time is always the worst so think of it that way - it'll never be as bad as the first time!

winewolfhowls · 04/07/2021 22:36

I also recommend a lumea, i didn't actually believe what people said about them, and to be fair, its not perfect but I had a terrible beard problem and now hardly anything.

womaninatightspot · 04/07/2021 22:44

I drink wine before, during and after. I'd say it gets easier with time. If you keep it up every week you're only pulling 10-20% of hairs rather than doing it as a oner. I epilate under my arms and the first time was awful but much easier if you keep it up.

It's really nice to be able to have bare legs in the summer. I'm very pale with dark hair and the regrowth is barely noticable after a week.

MissBridgetJones · 04/07/2021 23:03

Do it after a few wines.... Smile

KarmaViolet · 04/07/2021 23:14

@SimonedeBeauvoirscat

Christ, is anything worth this unnecessary pain?! Really. Madness.
This. I just stay hairy.
Blackwidow47 · 04/07/2021 23:48

Wow you’re brave, I’m a wimp and use the Braun Laser which is painless.

I knew a woman once who epilated her entire bush off 😱

RickiTarr · 04/07/2021 23:58

I can’t believe people epilate their armpits. I’m wincing just thinking about it.

SecondCityShark · 05/07/2021 00:05

I've had mine for a couple of years and I use my a couple of times a week without even thinking about it. Stopped being painful really quickly.

I've stopped doing my muff though. I just shave that, it just wasn't worth the pain and that never lessened. Legs are fine though.

LeaveHomeNow · 05/07/2021 00:17

I epilate legs and underarm. My underarm is about four hairs per side, nothing else. Both are absolutely fine - but this is after 15 years or so of doing it. I can't remember, but I'm so lazy I wouldn't have bothered if it was painful for a very long time so think acclimatise pretty quickly.

Shorthairlady · 05/07/2021 00:40

I can't do thighs at all, from knees downward and bikini line is fine. The trick with doing under arms is to not let the hair grow too long, hold the skin taut and to gently bounce the epilator on the skin instead of trying to go up and down. Don't epilate a week before your period.

minipie · 05/07/2021 00:45

Oh I remember the one and only time I epilated. Oweeeeee

I suggest a Lumea

Hen2018 · 05/07/2021 02:01

I can do pretty much everywhere now.

The very worst bit is removing the 3 hairs that grow on each big toe. That is torturous.

Budgetating · 05/07/2021 06:09

I have a rarely used epilator. Every year I think I'll use it this year. I can deal with the pain (I just use if for my legs) but not with 50% of the hairs growing back under my skin. Itchy, hurts like hell, did i mention itchy and then unsightly after scratching at them in my sleep.

BumCat · 05/07/2021 06:09

I agree with others, I got the Braun IPL machine and it’s changed my life! I have thick hair growth and epilating and waxing gave me terrible ingrown hairs, no matter how much I exfoliated. Don’t suffer unnecessarily if you can afford an IPL gadget.

Avelosa · 05/07/2021 09:39

@SimonedeBeauvoirscat @KarmaViolet each to their own, but that's not what I want to do

OP posts:
Avelosa · 05/07/2021 09:39

I'm going to persevere with the epilating for now and see how I get on, but may have to start saving for one of the IPL machines if they are that good

Avelosa · 05/07/2021 09:41

@Glovesandscarf the one I got was a Braun Silk Epil from Argos, think it was around £40

Lemonlemon88 · 05/07/2021 09:43

I have to do my underarms and bikini line every week or it hurts too much! Havent even attempted my legs but waxing my legs has always hurt more to then a brazilian!

shivawn · 05/07/2021 09:44

I barely feel it at all on my legs to be honest, just start it a day or 2 days after shaving and it should be fine. I did my underarms once when I was really stuck, now that was painful.

HectorGloop · 05/07/2021 10:15

I've been doing mine for 25 years with the same cheapy epilator I bought as an 18 year old. When I think about its value in terms of cost per use, it's probably the best thing I've ever bought Grin

I barely even feel it on my legs now and there's hardly any hair there anyway. Bikini line is slightly more painful but perfectly manageable - stick with it OP, it gets much easier!
