And what the fuck is pretty much all I can say!Shock How do you get used to that!? I knew it was going to hurt but didn’t expect that! I have PCOS so have really thick dark hairs which I don’t think helps me. Please tell me it gets better/easier otherwise I think I might have to give up and be hairyGrin

@MarkRuffaloCrumble I’ve been looking at those but wasn’t sure if it was worth it or not. I was worried about spending that much and not getting great results but it’s good to hear that you’ve had success with it

@Avelosa no once a week is fine. Things must have moved on since I got mine as they recommended every 2-3 weeks then.

Avelosa · 04/07/2021 20:41

@emmathedilemma I normally wax them myself using hot wax but found I had to have a couple of weeks of hairy legs before they were long enough to do again

@rookiemere thank god for that, I thought you were going to tell me I had to do it every dayGrin it does recommend every 2/3 weeks once you’ve used it more often

Honestly you're all braver than me. I would rather shave my legs every couple of days than go through that

TheLovleyChebbyMcGee · 04/07/2021 20:43

Yes it gets much better! I found my arm pits, bikini line and legs, I'm just used to it I guess, been doing it maybe 12 years?

Magpiecomplex · 04/07/2021 20:45

Not only does it get less painful over time, it seems to reduce the amount of hairs that grow back if you do it for long enough. My first one had a frozen block which attached to it to calm the sting!

Lemonmelonsun · 04/07/2021 20:46

What is epilation I always thought it was hair remover cream??

Avelosa · 04/07/2021 20:47

@Alannawhorideslikeaman I did consider getting DP to hold me down and do it for me but I don’t think I ever could have forgiven him if he didGrin

@Lemonmelonsun it’s an electrical device with lots of little tweezers in it, you run it along your legs/armpits etc and it takes the hairs out at the root

I bought one a few years ago and stupidly started with my bikini line. I did a big strip right down the middle, when I looked every follicle was bleeding! I gave up and shaved the rest and haven't dared try it since! Blush

rookiemere · 04/07/2021 20:49

Aw jeez I'd never do my bikini line with it, that's madness.

Glovesandscarf · 04/07/2021 20:50

Couldn’t do armpits. Run your hand firmly up your leg ahead of the epilator (against the hair) I find helps a bit.

AliMonkey · 04/07/2021 20:50

Been doing it for 25 years. It definitely gets better and doesn't hurt at all now, provided I do it after a hot shower. DD recently started doing hers and she's usually terrible with pain and has thicker hairs than I ever did and has coped.

soughsigh · 04/07/2021 20:52

Another one to say it does get easier! The first time I did my underarms, I had to do it in 4 goes but now it's fine. The hair on my legs grows back really sparsely and I can almost pull it out with my fingers it's that weak. I've been epliating for about 8 years now, I also have the silk epil. I do mine in the shower, a waterproof one is a good investment.

SimonedeBeauvoirscat · 04/07/2021 20:54

Christ, is anything worth this unnecessary pain?! Really. Madness.

roguetomato · 04/07/2021 20:54

I think it definitely gets better as you do it more often. I've been doing it for years, I don't feel a thing.

Furball · 04/07/2021 20:56

I can recommend using 2 x epilators at the same time - it is far less painful. The brain can't quite work out what the heck is going on with it all so evens out the pain between the 2. I use the 2 together swirling them round one in each hand.

Howcanthisbe123 · 04/07/2021 20:58

If you have dark hair get a laser, worth every single penny

Natsku · 04/07/2021 20:58

Numb your legs first with a cold pack and then do it - the one I bought came with a cold pack for that purpose!

It does get easier in time, doesn't hurt at all now, kinda feels good actually, like a good scratch on an itch. But I still have to do it at least twice a week, my hairs grow so fast.

TheWeeDonkey · 04/07/2021 21:00

A few years ago I got a Philips Lumea recommended on here and it was money well spent. Used it once a fortnight to start off with and then reduced to once a month or so and now use it occasionally. I used it on legs, bikini line and armpits, the hair is all but gone on my legs, very sparse and fine under my arms and much finer than it was on my bikini line. I barely need to shave at all now.

Lemonmelonsun · 04/07/2021 21:02

Thanks but what's the advantage over waxing etc??

DramaAlpaca · 04/07/2021 21:03

I've been epilating for years and years, to the extent that most of my body hair has given up and doesn't bother growing back.

Top tip is two paracetamol an hour beforehand and/or a glass of wine.

It hurts less the more you do it. I can do armpits and bikini now without even flinching

lifeinlimbo2020 · 04/07/2021 21:05

Get a Philips Lumea IPL.... dark hair and lightish skin tone and it works wonders. Wish I'd had one twenty years ago.

aloeavera · 04/07/2021 21:16

Waxing, epilator led me to laser and I'm 100% happy I have had my laser treatments. Only downside is that, I wish I did laser treatment a decade ago which could have saved me the pain and trouble with waxing and using the electric tweezer/epilator.
