Matt Hancock's DM 'sad face'

Woke up this morning to this. It's the saddest sad face photo I've ever seen. He has been publicly disgraced and humiliated, his marriage appears to be over and yet he can't even look sad convincingly!

Matt Hancock's DM 'sad face'

@pointythings

Blossomtoes I hope you're right. I do know that the people polled in Newmarket weren't impressed. But there's so many small very Tory, very Brexity towns in this patch (I live in one). I don't hold out much hope for this place ever being anything but Tory.
I think we may live in very similar places - I’m in Major’s old constituency. I think this has incensed his constituency party so much because it’s very old fashioned Tory in its values and Hancock’s behaviour - lying, adultery, refusal to apologise properly, lack of any real contrition - is completely out of line with those. They also realise that he’s now an electoral liability at a point when the blue wall is weakening. We’ll see.
Blossomtoes · 28/06/2021 13:21

Whoops, sorry!!

the80sweregreat · 28/06/2021 13:22

Everyone hoping that all this might ' bring down a government' as the sleaze did in the 90s are deluded.
The sun paper only backed Tony Blair in 97 because he wasn't against big business and said once he ' admired' Mrs Thatcher. They did help him to win, but only because everyone were sick of the tories. People are not sick of the tories even now, most people will move on from this latest scandal ( especially now Saj is in charge and is less keen on lockdowns ) and giving away contracts and money will be explained away as ' doing the best by the public in a difficult time'.
Plus people will worry that Labour may want to rejoin the EU in time and hold their noses and vote as they always do , Conservative. They will never do anything different ( especially in places such as Newmarket )
Plus a general election is a long way off too and memories are short. The daily Mail have already moved on from this story and it'll be dropped once the next new one comes along ( or Saj will be hailed a hero for releasing us from restrictions in the next few weeks time)
I won't ' forget' what they have done , but many will. We will have a Conservative government for many years is my own prediction ( for what it's worth)

From his "crying" interview: "We can't blow it now, Piers" Grin

Your best chance of it not being Tory is Hancock standing in the next election. If I were you I'd be tempted to join the constituency Tory party to try and convince them to select him at the next GE.

I wonder where he is hiding and when we will see him again.

BiscoffAddict · 28/06/2021 14:12

@bombis

He can’t hide forever can he? It’s strange how the press haven’t managed to track him down. I wondered if he was with his parents in Cheshire?
Hestartedoffsowell · 28/06/2021 14:16

Wonder how long the relationship will last? He clearly only left his wife because his hand was forced?

Blossomtoes · 28/06/2021 14:18

Rumour has it that he’s holed up in his constituency home - conveniently close to Steeple Morden where Gina’s taken refuge with her dad.

BiscoffAddict · 28/06/2021 14:29

The papers have said Gina is holed up on the South Coast somewhere. The constituency home is locked up, but that doesn’t mean he’s not hiding inside with the curtains drawn I suppose. I think he’s hoping it will all die down before emerging. Presumably he still has staff working for him, someone filmed that video for him that he put on Twitter.

He could have set that video up for himself. The papers started off saying she was on the south coast, they changed to SM yesterday. I guess he could be there too. Not that I particularly care, at least he’s had the decency to slink away quietly.
BiscoffAddict · 28/06/2021 15:09

Well neither of them can hide forever. At some stage they will have to return to London.

Blossomtoes · 28/06/2021 15:13

True but give it a week or so and the dust will have settled. The papers will have lost interest by then.

the80sweregreat · 28/06/2021 16:18

Something else will happen ( freedom day ..)or they will start up again about Harry n Meghan. Knock it all on the head and people will move on. Always the same with these big scandals.
MercyBooth · 28/06/2021 16:51

I remember posting on here about his demeanor at the press conferences, i posted how it looked like he was enjoying the power. Now we know he was enjoying more than just that. Did he sit on positive data to drag this out so he could spend more time with Gina.
Imagine the scenario "sorry Martha the case figures are looking bad again so i will be late home"

guinnessguzzler · 28/06/2021 16:52

@GCAcademic You say there is no such thing as karma and I know it does seem that he gets away with it but I take comfort (and I know I shouldn't) from my confidence that a truly happy person simply wouldn't behave this way. He must have been deeply, deeply unhappy, not in his marriage, but in himself. He won't go on to be happy, either, not unless he does a serious amount of work on himself. He might make lots of money, he might have a few thrills, he might kid himself that some kind of 'success' makes him ok, but he won't ever have that deep inner peace that means he can be genuinely happy. As Jarvis observed in 'Help the Aged', the lyrics of which Hancock would have done well to listen to for a number of reasons, 'can't run away from yourself'. And the best (worst) part is he probably won't ever even realise quite what's wrong and how to fix it. Look at Johnson, still making the same mistakes over and over, desperate for attention, desperate for approval and never able to just be ok with himself. It is horrible that these awful people are able to inflict so much damage both in their personal and professional lives but I don't believe for a second they really get what they want out of it either. In some ways that makes it even worse really but when feeling vengeful it cheers me up a little, even though I know that is cruel too.

PegasusReturns · 28/06/2021 17:00

@guinnessguzzler unfortunately I disagree.

I know loads of men like MH: successful, wealthy etc etc.

They’re all utterly delighted with themselves.

Wise words.

Blossomtoes · 28/06/2021 17:01

Very wise indeed.

MercyBooth · 28/06/2021 17:03

Would like to preface this by saying im half Italian. IF Ginas dad is a traditionalist for want of a better word (like my DM is) she will be getting a very hard time over what shes "done" to her husband but more so the kids. Coupled with a side order of "what will people think" but XXXX a million because its all over the press.

MyDcAreMarvel · 28/06/2021 17:11

He should have got himself on the fb group “angry people in local newspapers” literally thousands of sad faces for inspiration. What a waste of a weekend.

Threewheeler1 · 28/06/2021 17:17

He gets more like Gollum every day.

Jupiterdrops71 · 28/06/2021 22:46

His expression reminds me of the pic of Hugh Grant when he was caught by the papers with a prostitute, kind of smug, embarrassed but not sorry

Jupiterdrops71 · 28/06/2021 22:47

The police not the papers doh

ChargingBuck · 29/06/2021 00:24

@ZingDramaQueenOfSheeba

has anyone got a teeny tiny conspiracy theorist whispering inside that he orchestrated this to get out of his thankless job and seemingly crumbling marriage in one swift move?

stranger things have happened...or maybe I just watch too many crime dramas & thrillers and expect a twist🤣

Yes Sheeba.

When I finally cracked & viewed the footage (purely in the national interest you understand. Prurient, moi?!)

It all looked so ... hammy.
