1920 is still going, gunning for 101st birthday soon 👵

HerMammy · 19/06/2021 15:37

1922,1924,1928,1930
All gone

HilaryBriss · 19/06/2021 15:37

Maternal 1912 & 1917, paternal 1913 and 1914. Died in 1984, 1990, 1980, 1980.

Really strange the think that they weren't around to have had the internet, computers, mobile phones, 500 TV channels etc.

LunaNorth · 19/06/2021 15:40

1889, 1891, 1916, 1916.

I’m only 47, and my grandad was too old to fight in WW2! He fought in the trenches of The Somme and Ypres though.

Funny how time works.

RoyalAcademyOfFarts · 19/06/2021 15:41

My maternal GPs - 1916 and 1918
Paternal - 1900 & 1915

Greenandcabbagelooking · 19/06/2021 15:43

1920, 1920, 1917, 1916.

Only the 1920s ones survived to meet grandchildren. The 1917 one didn't even see her own children grow up.

Candlesinthewind · 19/06/2021 15:50

My paternal grandfather was born the earliest - 1864! So during the time of the American Civil War and exactly 100 years before I was born.
After world war 1, there were a lot fewer young men for women to marry. My grandfather was thus able to marry a second time ( his first wife died) to a much younger woman ( my grandmother was born in 1900) and start a second family. Grandfather was 65 when my Dad was born and sadly died when my Dad was only 10.

LadyCatStark · 19/06/2021 16:32

I’m not sure exactly but my maternal grandparents were born in the 1920s. Actually my grandma was the same age as the queen so I’ve googled it and it was 1926.

My paternal grandparents were younger but both died very young, one on an accident and one of breast cancer so I didn’t know them.

I find this sort of thing fascinating.

The last civil war widow died in December 2020! en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/American_Civil_War_widows_who_survived_into_the_21st_century

SockQueen · 19/06/2021 18:18

All four of mine were born between 1920-24. Last one died in 2008.

36degrees · 19/06/2021 18:37

1922 and 1932 for my GMs, both died at the age of 77. My paternal GF died in an accident just before I was born and my maternal GF left my GM to live abroad when my DM was an infant, neither were ever spoken of at home so no idea of their DOBs.

Dualipasuction · 19/06/2021 21:33

I'm truly astounded. The picture on Wiki of the 88 yo veterans with a 21 yo wife is a bit bizarre.

All in the 1890s/turn of that century. All but one had died before my parents even met. My paternal grandmother died when I was 4, so I have only the vaguest of memories of her.

Serena1977 · 19/06/2021 21:56

Paternal gf 1912 to 1972 aged 60
Paternal gm 1914 to 1995 aged 81
Maternal gm 1929 to 1997 aged 68
Maternal gf 1929 to 2007 aged 77

Very sad that I didnt meet my pat gf as I wasnt born and his son, my darling Dad died aged 58 in 2007 both of cancer.

Ethelswith · 19/06/2021 22:13

All of them in the 1890s, but I'd have to go and look to check the exact years

Underhisi · 19/06/2021 22:16

1913 - 1920, Died 1974 - 2015
Dh had a gf born 1886

Smartiepants79 · 19/06/2021 22:20

1920 and 1928.
Both grandmothers still going!
When I think of the changes they’ve seen in their lifetimes it’s quite extraordinary.

polkadotpixie · 19/06/2021 22:28

My Grandmas were born in 1932 and 1923. Both still with us at 88 and 97 (98 next week)

polkadotpixie · 19/06/2021 22:31

Don't know about my Grandads as they're both dead, one before I was born. I'd guess around 1925 and 1908

21Flora · 19/06/2021 22:37

Mine were born in the 40s and 50s, My great grandparents were 20s and 30s!

Cattenberg · 20/06/2021 00:16

It is weird how time works. My eldest GP was my paternal GM, 1911-2007. One of her siblings died in the mid -1890s. So she outlived them by at least 110 years.

MirandaWest · 20/06/2021 00:23

1904 (ish, not quite sure as he died when my mum was very young), 1914, 1919, 1926

DramaAlpaca · 20/06/2021 00:25

Mine were born between 1899 and 1905.

I read about a lady who died of COVID and how she had a sibling who died of Spanish flu, over a hundred years ago.

My maternal grandmother was born in 1924, maternal grandfather around 1920, don't know about paternal grandparents, probably in the 1910s because my DF was a few years older than DM. All grandparents long gone.

My great grandmother actually outlived all my grandparents. We have a few weird generation 'glitches' in our family, like people with uncles who are younger than they are.

elp30 · 20/06/2021 03:48

Maternal GPS: 1905 & 1911
Paternal GPS: 1885 & 1910

I am 50. I never knew my GP born in 1885 because he died 7 years before I was born. I lost my other three grandparents by the time I was 9 years old.
