I need some advice please. I'm a woman & I've been wanting to buzz cut my hair ever since lockdown started & I'm really tempted to do it.
I'm just worried I won't suit it & I'll look like a complete prat & my 2 year old won't recognise me. He's only ever seen me wirh should length hair.
Should I do it?

It all depends on your head shape and hairline and face shape , if u didn’t like the pixie I won’t like the buzz cut I wud go to a salon and ask for their opinion xx

Pinkandpurplehairedlady · 15/06/2021 13:38

I buzz my hair using a #1 clipper blade and I love it. Extra time in bed because I don’t have to worry about doing my hair, plus I think I suit it!

coronabeer · 15/06/2021 13:44

It takes a long time for your hair to grow back if you don't like it and, in my opinion, few women can carry it off. I've seen so many threads on mumsnet where people urge women to get their hair cut really short and yet too often the result is far from an improvement.

I loved the pixie cut but I don't want that style again. I'm not sure I'll even go through with it, I was just after some advice 😊 I really appreciate all your advice, thank you 😘

I do think you risk looking like you’ve cut your hair to preempt chemo. So just be prepared for people to be a little concerned you’re not well.

Otherwise I know one lady who has recently done it for charity and another who did it over lockdown. One looked great the other not so great, so I think it depends on your bone structure 🙈

MaMisled · 15/06/2021 14:07

I'm 54 and took the plunge 4 weeks ago. Its so liberating and I feel weirdy more feminine.

Rockbird · 15/06/2021 14:24

I'd love to do it as my hair is shite and I could start again with new hair. But I look like a burst sofa at the best of times, God knows what I'd look like with a shaved head!

ThatOtherPoster · 15/06/2021 14:37

Thinking about hiding this thread now, as I am growing more and more tempted.... grin

Me too! I’m growing my hair (from shoulders to long) but this thread has got me itching to just break out the clippers.

swampytiggaa · 15/06/2021 15:09

Did mine first day of first lockdown. I’m a grade 2. Husband loves it and cuts it for me now 😊

Mine & my toddlers hair are both thick.
Sorry, I missed that they were two. Was thinking of how wispy my child's hair was until he was almost two and forgot that people often include two year old's under 'toddler' in the UK. Though DS still had to have a number 6 when he had his buzzed at the age of seven as it was quite fair, mine looks longer at a 4 than his did at a 6.

Arrowheart · 15/06/2021 19:03

@swampytigga you look ACE!!!

Thank you! My daughter rolls her eyes when I wear my denim dungarees stripey tee shirt and DM’s but I don’t care 😂😂 I’m 51 and don’t give a flying fuck what anyone thinks of me any more!

BeBraveAndShave · 15/06/2021 22:44

Go throughwith itm be spontaneous. Forget about all the bad side of it and do it. You only live once. Let's do it together. Tonight. I'm up for it, so ready for this. Your post has gave me the push. Let me give u the push you need ;)

onanadventure · 15/06/2021 22:53

im doing something similar as soon as im on mat leave.
I wish I had done so in lockdown.
Not a nuzzcut but reallly short bob.

I am investing in some headbands.

BeBraveAndShave · 15/06/2021 22:56

If need a hairdresser or ideas or advice I'm happy to help just comment or message me x

BeBraveAndShave · 15/06/2021 23:03

I'm staring at my clippers now and my hair that's just so damaged and fried. I think I'm going just do it right now...anyone else with me? Girl power. Bald is beautiful. We don't need hair 💇💇‍♀️

ViciousJackdaw · 16/06/2021 00:55

I cannot recall Sinead O'Connor (don't know how to do fadas, sorry) ever being coated in make up or dangly earrings and she looked absolutely beautiful.

ElGuardiandenoche · 16/06/2021 01:46

@swampytiggaa you look amazing. I love those dungarees and the cardi. Do you mind telling me where you got them from.

I went for a buzz cut when ExH left me for my best mate. He had always liked my hair long and forbade me too ever cut it short. So obviously the first thing I did when he walked out was get it buzzed. I kept that look for a few years along with a lot of out there colours before I started to grow it out. I now have hair that I can sit on. Not coloured at the moment but I have an appointment on the 1st of July. I will probably have it cut short again in a few years but that’s mainly because I’m disabled and as I get more so it will just be easier to manage.

ViperAtTheGatesOfDawn · 16/06/2021 01:47

I've been doing mine on a #4 since the first lockdown and my scalp, hairline and forehead psoriasis has gone. It's a drastic cure but it's worth a try for that reason alone.

P0stp0ned001 · 16/06/2021 01:59

I've done it, very liberating

swampytiggaa · 16/06/2021 06:11

@ElGuardiandenoche dungarees are from Tesco last year cardigan husband bought me years ago not sure where from 😊

Shehasadiamondinthesky · 16/06/2021 06:21

Id love to do it to get rid of all the bleach but Id look like a potato. It depends on the shape and size of your head. Snead O'connor had the perfect elfin face for this look.

3Britnee · 16/06/2021 12:04

@BeBraveAndShave Did you do it? Definitely post before and afters!

ElGuardiandenoche · 16/06/2021 23:07

Cheers @swampytiggaa 😀 Looks like I’m going to just have to make my own.

Albless · 17/06/2021 00:13

This is me with my very short hair. I was doing it myself during lockdown, but now go to the barber for a better cut, especially behind my ears and round the back, than I can manage myself. I love it!
