I need some advice please. I'm a woman & I've been wanting to buzz cut my hair ever since lockdown started & I'm really tempted to do it.
I'm just worried I won't suit it & I'll look like a complete prat & my 2 year old won't recognise me. He's only ever seen me wirh should length hair.
Should I do it?

Our clippers has a 12mm guard which is what we used when we cut our toddlers hair, it looks very short. I suffer from psoriasis too & get it quite bad on my scalp. Which is awful with long hair! I don't know what to do.

I’d say do wear dangly earrings, if you have a worryingly boyish face like mine. Sadly, you will only be able to tell once it is done.

It's set at 2.0 if that helps. There's 1.4 & 0.8???

There's a 9mm guard?

I have mine on a number 4 and usually leave it a 6 on top. If I have it the same length all over it looks a bit rubbish.
If I go below about a 3 you can see the skin of my head and I don't like that.

Give it a go; it'll grow back!

Unless your toddler has very thick hair for their age then it will look shorter on them than on an adult woman.

honeylou42 · 15/06/2021 06:11

Why not do it for brave the shave and raise some money at the same time. My friend did this the other year and it looked fab 😀

garlictwist · 15/06/2021 06:42

I have sometimes toyed with the idea, and I don't think I'd look too bad as I have quite a thin face. However I think I would be so cold without hair. Something to bear in mind.

Arrowheart · 15/06/2021 07:20

I did it myself on a 12 and kept it going until lockdown 1 when I grew it. I loved it but in reflection it was very very short.

ApolloandDaphne · 15/06/2021 07:44

I saw someone recently with a very short white blond hair cut (don't know if it was a buzz cut as I passed her in the car). She looked amazing but she did have the most incredible cheekbones and strong facial features. Go for if is you think you could pull it off. I would just look like a potato!

3Britnee · 15/06/2021 07:46

Did you do it op?

Allthegranola · 15/06/2021 07:58

Did you do it? We need to know!

Itsabingthing2 · 15/06/2021 11:16

@3Britnee @Allthegranola no I didn't 😕 I was thinking of doing brave the shave. Mine & my toddlers hair are both thick.

Omg, I'm getting sweaty just thinking about it Grin

Promise you'll do before and after pics?

JesusInTheCabbageVan · 15/06/2021 11:55

As I get older, the number of fucks I give about my appearance have reduced quite sharply. I will definitely be brave enough to risk a buzz cut at some point in the next five years... just not quite there yet.

My DS used to have a buzz cut and he looked heart-stoppingly beautiful. Very androgynous, like Eleven in the first series of Stranger Things. I was so jealous.

You should go for it OP. Definitely!

captainprincess · 15/06/2021 12:03

Go for it @Itsabingthing2 I don't think you'll regret it. And as the cliche goes, it's only hair, it will grow back Smile

afaloren · 15/06/2021 12:07

Do it! I’ve done it. Eyebrows and earrings stop you looking like a Mitchell bro. It grows out quickly to pixie length. I loved mine it was so low maintenance.

RubyGoat · 15/06/2021 12:17

I just asked my DH what he honestly thought of how I looked when I had really short hair. At its shortest it was less than 1 cm. He said it was great, because I clearly didn't give a shit what anyone else thought.

Your DH sounds like an arsehole, TBH. A big hairy one.

MariLwyd · 15/06/2021 12:20

Do it! I have done a few times. Only problem is it’s addictive and now whenever it gets hot I get the urge to do it again!

BuffySummersReportingforSanity · 15/06/2021 12:23

I have a short pixie, buzzed to #2 on both sides and longer in a strip from the top to the nape of my neck.

I look fucking awesome, if I do say so myself, and I absolutely love touching the buzzed sides. Lots of people have commented that I really look like me.

I have it done professionally though. It's a style, not just a blitz with the clippers.

BewareTheBeardedDragon · 15/06/2021 12:56

I did it and I loved it. My dc watched me and they weren't so keen but at the end of the day it's my hair. I felt that if I didn't do it once I'd regret it forever, and I ended up keeping it for a year.
Do it!

JesusInTheCabbageVan · 15/06/2021 13:01

Thinking about hiding this thread now, as I am growing more and more tempted.... Grin

Lovemusic33 · 15/06/2021 13:08

Im tempted. Im going short this week as my hair is just unsaleable (breaking off, too much dye and illness caused hair loss), im worried about having a buzz cut incase I have a odd shaped head and worried it will make my slim face look slimmer.

EuphorbiaPlant · 15/06/2021 13:12

Do it! I had it done when I was 14 and it looked amazing. I loved it and it felt great.

It's only hair, it'll grow back if you decide you don't like it.

Cashewsauce · 15/06/2021 13:15

I shaved mine off at the beginning of the very first lockdown last year, seemed the perfect opportunity to not see anyone if I looked awful, I liked it but I prefer it at a couple of inches now.
If you hate it, embrace hats for a little bit, it grows back!
