Fortnite, is it that bad?

Just had yet another tearful exchange with my 9 year old about Fortnite. He discovered today his cousin, who is the same age, has it. Help me understand if I’m being harsh or I should stand my ground. Advice welcome please. I can’t cope with days and days of side eye, stomping and moodiness.

Just wondering when people say I t isn't graphic, whenever I've look for clips on YouTube it's full of people being shot - isn't that graphic? Or is there a big part of the game where the gameplay is something non-shooty? My two don't play computer games really bit do love a bit of Netflix.
It's a shooter where you try to outlive everybody else. There's a Yelp when people get shot but there's no unnecessary gore like blood and guts. The violence is on a par with Minecraft or the Lego games.

The problem is the premium currency and the fact that it's played online so if you're not supervising then your child could be chatting to anyone or listening to people use bad language when they die etc

My DS begged to get Fortnite when he was 9 as all his friends had it. He quickly got moody and angry and obsessive and just found it overwhelming. After a week we spoke to him and said it looked like he really wasn't enjoying it and that we noticed huge negative changes in his behaviour. He agreed and was happy to delete it.

He asked again when he was 12 and we said yes, but reminded him of the earlier experience and says we'd need to make sure he was OK. At 13, he plays regularly with his classmates and friends, but can still find it overwhelming at times. We've had to try a few different systems before coming to a workable play time on it.
