Flags out for Euros 2020 ?

Anyone decorated houses/gardens with flags?

I’ve got bunting in the garden for today’s barbecue. Uncovered a huge flag,didn’t know we had it!

Live in a huge new building estate and nobody has flags up at all here. Feel quite patriotic this year after this bloody pandemic!

Anyone else got flags up or opinions on not having them up?

I would never do this and I actively avoid pubs with a George’s flag on the side.

PrimulaPrimrose · 13/06/2021 14:19

No. Not interested myself but live and let live!

DilysPrice · 13/06/2021 14:34

As a proud Welshwoman living in England I wouldn’t dream of having an England flag up obvs.

But given the state of the ghastly individuals who are boycotting the England team for making an anti-racist gesture (Laurence Fox for example) I might be quietly happy if they did well.

I didn’t see any England flags on houses in my DPILs’ very Brexity village but they were all over the pub. Back in London they’re not even on display on the pubs that are showing the game. None from the local Portuguese/Spanish population either, which is unusual, but I think they’ll come out as the tournament moves on.

@TheDevils because I'm thankful I don't live in an area where people hang these monstrosities from their windows etc.

I mean, come on. It's faux naivety to pretend that nice, normal people dress up their houses with England flags. We all know the type of households who do it.

Nasty judgemental snob.

Medianoche · 13/06/2021 14:52

I’ve got flag bunting up in my living room (lots of countries, rather than all one flag). Really don’t care if other people think it’s tacky.

deleteasappropriate · 13/06/2021 14:52

@MaybeCrazy2

For some reason (as a while British female) I see the England flag as racist. I don’t know why? I just do, it must have been ingrained in me somehwere. My OH is football mad and wanted to COVER the house in flags, but I couldn’t allow it so they are all in the back garden. Lots of bunting and huge flags everywhere! (It does actually look quite good to my surprise!)
Are the Scottish and Welsh flags racist? Or is it just the English?
LadyMonicaBaddingham · 13/06/2021 14:53

@mum11970

We love our flag in Wales. I put ours out yesterday and will probably leave it there for the duration. You can’t go far in Wales without seeing the flag football or no football.

That's because our flag is the best one. It's got a massive dragon on it!!

Justa47 · 13/06/2021 14:59

@StacysMomMandyJessiesEx

Hate flags out

BashfulClam · 13/06/2021 15:02

Our street has Saltire bunting along the streetlights (very well to do area as well).

Figgygal · 13/06/2021 15:09

No chance
Saw a car with 4 of them on it yesterday
Why would you???????

TwoLeftSocksWithHoles · 13/06/2021 15:27

I think I have got one of those small flags on a stick that they gave to children to wave when the Queen visited our town.

If I can find it I'll plant in the front lawn. Grin

IamaBluebird · 13/06/2021 15:40

After the year we’ve had, fly your flags, hang your bunting and ignore the judgemental people who think doing so defines you.
Football Daffodil

MissAmandaLa1kes · 13/06/2021 15:42

@Shamoo

I used to put flags up for all tournaments. Still a big fan (on the way to the game now, and have travelled home and away as an England fan over the years) but given the way the country has gone since Brexit I don’t put one up anymore,m. It now stands for something that makes me uncomfortable. Which makes me sad, as I never had a concern before. But I don’t have an issue with others doing it for the football at all.
Why not make the effort to reclaim the flag?
AramintaArrowsmith · 13/06/2021 16:14

@Northernshepherd no I'm not. Not at all. I'm just being realistic here and not trying to pretend that people who hang England flags pit their window are people you'd want as your neighbour

StacysMomMandyJessiesEx · 13/06/2021 16:18

well the huge flag i found didnt get hung out after all as i had no string to secure it.

enjoyed the game though

@AramintaArrowsmith interested to hear what you classify as ‘nice normal people’ because it sounds like what you mean is ‘people with the same specific worldview as myself’

icantthinkofamnusername · 13/06/2021 16:23

I've put mine up. But I was also that person that spent last year putting up rainbows and VE Day bunting et al. Feel a bit lost when there's nothing in the window now.

AramintaArrowsmith · 13/06/2021 16:29

@Blueeyedgirl21 not at all. Generally speaking, people who don't drape their house in an England flag

CliftonGreenYork · 13/06/2021 18:22

I really don't think its racist, I just think its a bit tacky looking. It's nothing about being a "Nasty Judgemental Snob", its just my experience that its the rougher type of people who have giant England flags in their windows. Bunting is lovely as it a little flag but, having a giant England flag blocking a window just looks awful.

user1471448866 · 13/06/2021 18:27

@CliftonGreenYork

No - its common :-)
Pathetic. What is ‘common’ - just people taking some happiness in something you don’t approve of? My dh is a judge, my dd is studying at Oxford but I am 1st generation University educated from a farm workers background so presumably that is why I have England bunting out. Do I give a damn that you think it’s ‘common’ - what do you think ?
Orcadianrythyms · 13/06/2021 18:50

Why on earth do people pose questions on this site if they don't want opinions. I'm sorry it wasn't the answer you were looking for but the England flag has been hijacked by far right and if I see one in a home, I think what I think. It's not judgemental to have a view when asked on a site like this - it would be if I randomly marched up to your door and called you a racist Hmm. If I saw a Welsh, Scottish or Irish flag I wouldn't have the same opinion no @

is that aimed at me? I'm the one who posed the question.

DH is Croatian. So the DC are half Croatian

We enjoyed the game.

@user1471448866 I'm not taking anything away from you at all. What do you care what I think? You're as entitled to think it's fun/classy/ non racist as I am to think it's as common as muck.
