nancybotwinbloom · 08/06/2021 22:06

I'm on my own tonight. DH away. DD with her nan.

I've read some scary threads On here and ended up on a google tangent about black eyed children.

I will be honest, I am shitting myself now thinking that because I am thinking about them they will come.

I'm 41 ffs. Can I have some funny stuff to take my mind away from this please.

This is not like me. I'm usually not like this.

I realise I am being ridiculous but now that it's getting dark it's actually playing on my mind.

Please don't google black eyed children if you are a dickhead like I am when supposed to be enjoying a night on my own

I am supposed to be Googling inexpensive place for afternoon tea in London...

Oh OP I think getting worked up about scary things never stops, even if you don't believe in anything supernatural. It's in our nature to feel apprehensive in the dark/at night and start imagining stuff.

It helps me to think about where this stuff comes from. It's not on the internet because it's real - it's there because whatever is scariest / has the most impact will be shared the most and spread fastest. Anything to do with appearing blank or expressionless scares us because we evolved to rely on facial expressions for communication and group solidarity, and a big part of that is in the eyes. You can find similar mythical scary things in multiple cultures - no eyes, odd eyes, blank eyes whatever. These things come from humans imagining what we find the most freaky and unnerving and talking about it.

If it helps I'm the biggest wuss ever. I can't even watch the worst horror or scary films at all, ever because I'd be traumatised for months. I once saw a mild scary film in the cinema and literally leapt out of my seat with a massive scream at one of the scary bits, and got bollocked by the person in front Blush

If I ever feel scared on my own at night I watch an episode of father ted, guaranteed to make me laugh.

I love that immunity dog!

EveryFlightBeginsWithAFall · 09/06/2021 01:01

@QioiioiioQ why? What's going to come out my pipes 😱 actually that reminds me of the Halloween special about 27 years ago where they were reporting on a polterguiest called pipes 😬

Susannahmoody · 09/06/2021 01:12

We just got back from the pool, DD leapt out of the car and yelled 'hello, you fat woman!' to a random person walking past ShockBlush

Utterly mortified

Ginandplatonic · 09/06/2021 01:12

It’s daytime here so I googled as a community service to those who want to know. They’re creepy looking horror movie style pics of children with completely black eyes. Who’ve overdone the black eyeshadow as well in many cases.

Hopefully nothing (😊🤞) I'm just worried that they might get knocked and broken😬

QioiioiioQ · 09/06/2021 01:18

You see I also have a cupboard with pipes in 👀
and I am very nervous of them 👀

I was watching American Horror Story on my laptop, in the dark - when a toad jumped on my laptop.

That was quite freaky.

Going to google black eyed children now.

I'll be back in a sec in tears!

If this was a thriller book or film it would cut to one of the black eyed children pressing 'post' on your MN account.

StealthPolarBear · 09/06/2021 20:00

Or you'd turn to look at the camera and your eyes would go black. And cut!

nancybotwinbloom · 09/06/2021 20:12

@StealthPolarBear hahah such a good imagination!

We are currently having a few days away in an Air B n B. The decor is gothic. All velvet drapes, 4 poster bed etc. Love it. Got into bed last night not knowing ds (19) had hidden under the bed. In the dark, he reached up and grabbed my bare leg!! Jesus! If I could have got hold of him I would have killed him but he rolled under the middle out of reach, laughing like a drain!

nancybotwinbloom · 09/06/2021 21:03

@dementedma that is hysterical

Still won't say 'Candyman' into a mirror once though let alone five times

nancybotwinbloom · 09/06/2021 21:23

I am all brave now there is another adult home.

I'm free to google all the scary shit.

Any suggestions welcome

I read that thread in the classics a while ago. That post about the savernake forest was scary.

I’m on my own tonight too OP.
I’ve just been watching the blair witch project on Netflix.
My neighbours have a fuck ton of wind chimes…….
And my dog growls at them…..

Think fluffy safe shiny thoughts…

Thebookswereherfriends · 09/06/2021 22:51

Go and look up The Dodo website - all about rescue animals and the lovely lives they now have. That should stem the fear.

nancybotwinbloom · 09/06/2021 23:34

Has anyone had an experience with these black eyed kids? A first hand one?

PurpleRainDancer · 09/06/2021 23:40

@Kpo58

I have 4 foxes playing outside my house (it's pedestrianised). I'm always amazed at how silent they are. Smile
They're probably really pissed off they couldn't drive round in their Ford Cortina Grin
EveryFlightBeginsWithAFall · 10/06/2021 15:43

Slenderman scares me

I watched the most recent film then couldn't leave my bedroom to go to the loo

It wasn't until the next day I remembered I'm about 30 years too old for him to want to kidnap me 😏
