How does Kate choose her clothes?

I was just looking at the clothes which Kate has worn on her trip to Scotland. Loved the heather tartan Holland Cooper coat she wore yesterday! It set me thinking - how does she choose what to buy/wear? I can't imagine that she spends hours trawling the Internet to find things she likes the look of, but equally I can't believe someone else chooses outfits for her. I suppose some companies just send her samples to look at, but whatever the truth it must be very time-consuming, especially when she has to buy the shoes, bags and other accessories so it all co-ordinates!

@Blue4YOU

I was going to say... badly! To me she looks like she dresses like the queen most of the time.. frumpy, putting years on herself. And she has quite a boyish figure (not much in the way of hips/curvature and I don’t mean fat) and she doesn’t play to those strengths. But I’m not English and bound to adore her 😁
You're absolutely lovely

@NiceGerbil, she studied History of Art.

MerryChristmasToYou · 27/05/2021 19:47

I think she has a lovely slim athletic figure. Given that her sister does too I would imagine it is genetic.

She has a stylist I imagine.

I have a stylist and when I have a big event or important meeting she’ll email me about 10 outfit ideas, I’ll go back to her with my selected 5 to work with then she’ll put together the final 3 from my current wardrobe or buy anything that is missing. That is for multi day events. Otherwise she comes to my house and picks out 3 outfits and leaves them on the rail and I just pick the one I want.

Blue4YOU · 27/05/2021 19:49

@MagicSummer
Me too!!!!
I wasn’t dissing her appearance, other than to say her clothes are often too frumpy.
She could look utterly amazing- if her clothes weren’t Diana throwbacks a lot of the time.

derxa · 27/05/2021 19:50

Is this the Hilary Mantel thread?

Blue4YOU · 27/05/2021 19:52

@derxa
And you say that because...??
She has an amazing figure and face and hair.
I don’t like her style at all.
She doesn’t play to her strengths- in my view.
You are entitled to yours too, naturally.
But I don’t see why you have to make personal comments about me.
Is it because I’m not English?

I work for a company who has benefited from being worn by Kate. When she wears a piece it's is a guaranteed sell out and elevates the company instantly far above the competition.

When our first item was worn it was a moment of utter triumph for the owners but also panic regarding how to quickly get more stock and supply the sudden demand.

I'm not English either. I'm Scottish

What? She has staff who choose, and they will be careful to pick the perfect mix of plebby high street and snobby designer so that everyone who gives a shit can find something in their price bracket to emulate.

Plus it is important to be aspirational but also with a common touch. She can't be too Imelda Marcos, or too ordinary.

RaspberryCoulis · 27/05/2021 19:55

I would imagine the stylist will get a list along the lines of :

Royal trip to scotland - 3 days - May.

3 x day dresses, shoes and accessories.
3 x coats
1 x ballgown and jewellery
2 x sweaters
2 x jeans

Whatever - then they will choose colours which match with her tartan or give a nod to the place they're visiting. I would imagine that if it is, for example, an official dinner with the Bidens, someone will put a call into the White House to make sure Kate isn't wearing something similar to the First Lady.

I would also imagine that there is no better exposure for a young British designer to have Kate seen wearing their clothes. I would imagine the palace gets quite a lot of parcels sent in, or email invitations to view a collection.

Stylists for different celebrities regularly contact us to borrow pieces for their clients.
There is a network of stylists and PR agencies that work together to push clients and different brands.

Works both ways though, we have declined to lend/gift pieces if the celebrity isn't the right person for the brand (obviously not Kate!).

Triphazard101 · 27/05/2021 19:59

She does go shopping though. A friend of mine works in a shop in London and she went in there (with security). Apparently she is thinner in RL than she looks on tv/in pics!Confused

Blackopal · 27/05/2021 20:04

Strange life she leads, all of us on here discussing how she shops!

Blue4YOU but it’s ok for you to make unpleasant personal comments about Kate?

Serpenta · 27/05/2021 20:07

I wonder if she packs her own bras and knickers for these official trips or if the dressers/stylists do all of that too.

Serpenta · 27/05/2021 20:08

'Tis another world!

peboh · 27/05/2021 20:09

She'll have a personal stylist. She definitely doesn't pick the outfits she wears on royal jobs herself.

AppropriateAdult · 27/05/2021 20:16

Her PA Natasha Archer works as her stylist/dresser, that’s no secret. Though I get the impression Kate is quite into clothes so I’d imagine she likes to give a fair bit of input herself.

HarrisMcCoo · 27/05/2021 20:18

She needs a good dose of mince and tatties 😂

Most of her clothing is surely picked out for her. Monday - wear this. Tuesday - wear that.

That's all very well wearing that beautiful coat for a trip to Edinburgh, but what would she wear on a trip to Methil or Burntisland?🤔😂

A stylist or two and a seamstress so her clothes fit properly which makes a huge difference

She always looks smart but what is her own personal style i don’t know. It’s a little dull and safe

partyatthepalace · 27/05/2021 20:53

She has a stylist, several probably. Of course her outfits are chosen for her. She will finally ok them, but only from a very curated selection, and someone will sort out accessories etc.
