How does Kate choose her clothes?

I was just looking at the clothes which Kate has worn on her trip to Scotland. Loved the heather tartan Holland Cooper coat she wore yesterday! It set me thinking - how does she choose what to buy/wear? I can't imagine that she spends hours trawling the Internet to find things she likes the look of, but equally I can't believe someone else chooses outfits for her. I suppose some companies just send her samples to look at, but whatever the truth it must be very time-consuming, especially when she has to buy the shoes, bags and other accessories so it all co-ordinates!

@Gnomeclan don't be embarrassed! I loved the quote.

@AngelicaElizaAndPeggy

She has two warehouses near Solihull. One is just for blue coat dresses. And the other one is divided up very carefully into these categories:

Scotland uniform- tartan coatdresses, blue items and that horrible tartan scarf.

Ireland uniform- various bits that are orange, white and green.

Striped items for anything to do with nautical pursuits/seaside visits.

A button department.

Then it's just various subsections for coatdresses of different colours.

It looks like one of those Amazon warehouses, you should see it. It has a staff of 122 and Kate sits in the middle on a plinth with a big supercomputer that's connected to Asos.

I thought she had one of those wardrobes like Cher has in Clueless?

She will have a whole team that decides on everything from what she wears, to the brand of her mascara. How can anyone think that she is picking out all her own outfits from any old place on the internet? 🤣 At most she will be given a selection to choose from for each occasion. This will then be personally tailored to her measurements each time. Each outfit will be recorded to check she hasn’t worn the same thing twice too close together or even she hasn’t worn the same outfit for a sad occasion / then for a joyful occasion. Lots of jobs are purely based around her look. Same for all the immediate members of the royal family
This. All her clothes have the air of being chosen by a committee with the steers ‘Expensively Bland’ ‘Evening Bland With Jewels’ and ‘Occasional Highstreet Bland’.

@barbaraofseville it was a much older book, possibly this one

Lawnpop · 27/05/2021 15:45

All her clothes are catalogued too so they know exactly when and where it was worn. The clothes, even high street one are altered to fit perfectly.

Bluntness100 · 27/05/2021 15:46

Op she has a stylist and dresser. The woman has been pictured many times with Kate. Kates even talked about it. The stylist/dresser goes through sample outfits, discusses the look, orders, makes suggestions etc, and also manages her wardrobe, Ie you last wore this at x event, dry cleaning, repairing, tailoring etc.

She also has a personal hairdresser. And a make up artist when she wishes one, but the hairdresser is used for every event.

Triffid1 · 27/05/2021 15:56

I am almost positive that I've read via their released accounts etc that she does have a stylist, personal assistant(s?) and hairdresser but that she does her own make up. Possibly her hairdresser doubles as a make up artist as needed?

Serpenta · 27/05/2021 16:02

@BarbaraofSeville

Companies probably send clothes for her, because if Kate is seen in something, it sells out instantly and is a massive boost for the brand.

Even with coats costing hundreds of pounds, it's dirt cheap for that type of exposure.

Of course she has stylists, but probably has input too.

I think I read that the royals aren't allowed to accept freebies.

The blue double breasted jacket with brass buttons and sunday pleated skirt from earlier this week looked like they'd come direct from Bon Marché

MagicSummer · 27/05/2021 16:20

Ah all very interesting! I obviously hadn't picked up on the fact that she has a stylist - makes sense though!

I'm sure she must do some browsing for her 'off duty' clothes though; I can understand things being picked for her for official engagements, but not so sure about her down time!

That tartan coat is lush, she looked amazing

Chocolatericecakes · 27/05/2021 17:26

The fact that the OP found it hard to believe that staff are employed to dress Kate, just shows what a great job their PR department is doing.

I mean they are so down to earth! Just like the rest of us!

I am just picturing Kate online choosing her outfits, credit card at the ready, while checking homework and waiting for the sun to come out so that she can rush outside and hang the washing out before she pops off for the school run.

She will have already prepared something wholesome in the slow cooker for Willz, for when he gets in from a knackering day of shaking hands. Hmm

Yes, PR department is working flat out, just like her stylist, hairstylist, make up artist, personal trainer, nutritionist......etc.

Not Kate, but a friend was a midwife to one of the royal ladies.

When baby was born, she asked if she would like to dress the baby or if she would prefer the midwife to do it. Royal lady says she would like to do it, but had no idea what was in the back as "nanny packed it".

There are a whole team of stylists, dressers and shoppers.

Flowerclock · 27/05/2021 18:12

The woman probably has someone employed to wipe her own arse for her. Of course she's got a stylist.

TwoLeftSocksWithHoles · 27/05/2021 18:13

I think she's got one of those 'Magic Robot' things. She points robot to the event she's attending, transfers it to the other mirror and it spins round and points to what she should wear. I think.

Serpenta · 27/05/2021 18:14

Well, to be Groom of the Stool was considered quite an influential role to have in days of yore. Maybe they've re-instated it!

Blue4YOU · 27/05/2021 18:16

I was going to say... badly!
To me she looks like she dresses like the queen most of the time.. frumpy, putting years on herself.
And she has quite a boyish figure (not much in the way of hips/curvature and I don’t mean fat) and she doesn’t play to those strengths.
But I’m not English and bound to adore her 😁

Jobseeker19 · 27/05/2021 18:18

Why does her chest look so boney though?
Like 3 lines of bones across her chest. It doesn't look healthy.

newnortherner111 · 27/05/2021 18:23

I appreciate that given how little style most people in the UK have (about 90% of women and 99% plus of men) the Duchess of Cambridge making an effort about her appearance is a novelty. It does not surprise me that there are stylists and others who support her.

MerryChristmasToYou · 27/05/2021 18:38

@Jobseeker19, it's because she has low body fat. Mine is like that too.

I'd much rather have no hips and a large waist than 'child bearing hips' any day!

Not a royal watcher but I've got a feeling she studied fashion at uni didn't she?

So while I'm sure she has help I suspect she's very much into it herself.
