Strange "gift"

Karmaisabitch1 · 22/05/2021 13:01

If you received a bag of soil in the post, with a card that says "you're a dirtbag".

There's also a link to a website where the message is "karma is a bitch".

What would you think?

OP posts:
happinessischocolate · 22/05/2021 14:43

The karmas a bitch comment would make me think that they think you've had a dose of karma. A bag of soil isn't exactly scary or worrying, so it's more them going haha you deserved whatever they think happened.

I'd just stick the soil in a pot with some seeds and post it on fb 😁 see what comments you get 🤷‍♀️

GreyhoundG1rl · 22/05/2021 14:49

@Dugee

I've checked the citizens advice website and for a criminal complaint, you have to have been harassed on at least 2 occasions.

I'd try and forget about it and maybe worry if you receive anything else.

I'm not sure taking delivery of a bit of dirt constitutes harassment, really.
diddl · 22/05/2021 14:51

@MikeWozniaksGloriousTache

I’d think the sender is a bit thick and doesn’t understand how karma works if they have to send you a bag of dirt in the post to “get you back” for something.
I know-"you shagged my OH so here's some soil"

Er, OK then!

Dugee · 22/05/2021 14:53

@GreyhoundG1rl

I agree but the OP mentioned reporting to the police.

Oh sorry. Yes, that's a non starter. They're not exactly going to call in the Yard for this one.

I think it's the message that's being sent. If it's not a practical joker of a friend, it's someone that OP has upset. This person is letting OP that someone out there really dislikes them. It's not a nice message but life isn't always nice.

donquixotedelamancha · 22/05/2021 15:25

Sound like this? www.dirtbymail.com
There are actually several different websites offering the same service.

I feel nothing but pity and contempt for someone who does this. Imagine holding this much of a grudge but all you can think to do is post expensive soil- pathetic. Grow a pair and at least some post some dog shit yourself.

dudsville · 22/05/2021 15:27

But is it even karma? I'm not religious, but this is just someone purchasing dirt.

DogInATent · 22/05/2021 15:34

Only here for the penis confetti...

I didn't realise there was such a growth market for anonymous revenge postal delivery services. I thought that the glitter bombs had that covered.

Have you checked the front lawn for sausages OP?

TheYearOfSmallThings · 22/05/2021 15:38

I would think I was in the first chapter of a self published novel (e book format only).

Or that I had pissed off a fictional person?

Dugee · 22/05/2021 15:41

Or that I had pissed off a fictional person?

There does seem to be a market for these services, a quick google brings up plenty of companies that send out this stuff. Someone must be buying it.

KittyKatChonky · 22/05/2021 15:45

@LunaNorth

Are you Martin Bashir?
Op said it came from America. It was Harry!
TaraR2020 · 22/05/2021 15:54

When I was a girl the pre teen mags were full of stories about girls sending boxes of Tampax or Pampers to their chosen enemy.

Whoever it is wants a reaction.

JustPoppingToWaitrose · 22/05/2021 15:54

Well this has gone from 0 to Mumsnet in record time.

@VodselForDinner Grin

TillyTopper · 22/05/2021 16:23

A friend of mine received similar - I had never heard of it but it's a service you can buy if you are really pissed off with someone. She put the earth in pots, planted some pretty flowers and posted it on social media with someone like "Thanks for the earth (company name)... if life gives you lemons...."

GreyhoundG1rl · 22/05/2021 16:25

I don't think I'd be posting that I'd received a dirtbag on social media 😂

BadgerHair · 22/05/2021 16:30

Yeah, you've upset someone but maybe something from the past, as others have said.

Although it's disconcerting to know that someone doesn't like you (and is willing to pay to let you know this), I don't think there is much you can do.

MrMucker · 22/05/2021 17:06

Perhaps OP has not actually received this, but would like to send to someone and is scoping us out to see if it is possible to get rumbled.
All this talk of police and jurisdiction and wondering out loud, it's as if they've thought it through already to a far greater extent than anything suggested, there's a thing, hehe.

GreyhoundG1rl · 22/05/2021 17:08

You could be onto something there 😂

Omg. How is that even legal?!

I'm thinking of setting up a business 😂.

Fitforforty · 22/05/2021 18:42

I like this idea. Then post a photo of lovely pot on social media with a vague message about gardening in spring time.

It might not be someone the OP is friends with on SM.
