Strange "gift"

If you received a bag of soil in the post, with a card that says "you're a dirtbag".

There's also a link to a website where the message is "karma is a bitch".

What would you think?

Loads of places send these. My guess is that you've cheated on someone or you slept with someone who was in a relationship (whether you knew it or not). They've either just found out or they've known for a while but have just found out you can send these things.

GlitterBombing · 22/05/2021 22:21

@dudsville

But is it even karma? I'm not religious, but this is just someone purchasing dirt.
I think the OP has done something to the sender and the sender is reminding OP that what goes around comes around.

Anyone else singing “oh yeaaaah dirtba-aaaag” 😂 personally I’d be pleased as I need a new bag of soil for my tortoises’ enclosure!

"Anyone else singing “oh yeaaaah dirtba-aaaag”"

Only since it was first bloody mentioned!Grin

Are you even allowed to import soil from another country? Sounds most unlikely to me. Was there a Customs declaration on the package that you say came from the USA? Do you know what - I just bet there wasn't Grin

midlifecrash · 23/05/2021 12:04

You're right TheRavenNevermore:

You must have a licence to import, move, or keep soil from all third countries excluding EU member states, Liechtenstein and Switzerland. This also applies to any organic material which is capable of sustaining plant life and which contains solid organic matter, for example humus, peat other than pure and unused peat, moss, bark and artificial growing media which contains organic matter.

Every day is a school day on mumsnet. I never knew that about soil, probably because I've never tried importing it.

LouLou198 · 23/05/2021 17:38

Well I would think I won't be sleeping well tonight!

misscockerspaniel · 23/05/2021 17:51

Are you even allowed to import soil from another country? Grin Grin Grin To be fair, the Op was the importer.

BadgerHair · 23/05/2021 20:03

I think it would technically be the company that sent it, surely they should be aware of what licenses they need?

I shipped some used wellies to myself in NZ. They got confiscated and all I got was a letter explaining why, no fine or anything. They were confiscated because they were used (used by me in the U.K. before I relocated toNZ). So the NZ authorities assumed they had been used on a farm in the U.K. and may have bits of U.K. soil / mud on them. I don't think the sender will be in loads of trouble, the package will likely just get destroyed by customs and the recipient will get a letter saying their soil has been destroyed - even weirder for the unsuspecting recipient, I would think.

GlitterBombing · 25/05/2021 03:57

Any news OP? Have you worked out who sent it?
