I keep getting static shocks

Anyone else?

for the last couple of weeks I've been getting loads of static shocks. Not just normal things like jumpers either.

This morning I kissed DS on top of his head and there got a shock on my lips! At about 11ish I turned on a tap and it gave me a shock. Door handles - shock. Hug DD shock. All with a proper loud clicky noise and DD swears she saw a spark when I touched the radiator the other day.

NO ONE else is getting them unless I am involved IYSWIM - so dp and dd could hug and nothing would happen.

Its nothing to do with the house because I get them outside. I don't thiknk its to do with my clothes because I change them daily anyway and it still happens.

Any explanation??? Any one else? Or am I being contacted from the afterlife by some evil spirit?? Or well ... what?

lady that really really made me laugh. Mind you I spent a week or so blaming the new (same old brand) box of washing powder - clothes that have never crackled are now. I was actually wondering if they’d changed the formula - hadn’t quite progressed to planning to return/complain

megletthesecond · 23/04/2021 22:13

It's probably because it hasn't rained.

I zapped my poor DD while she was on the sun lounger earlier.

Love51 · 23/04/2021 22:15

Are you wearing shoes? I've been wearing shoes due to a foot problem, I've been blaming that. Can't wait to get back to my naked footed ways.

Unless it's this perimenopause but I want to pretend that isn't real

I've always been pretty staticky but it's definitely worse recently.
My poor cats look nervous when I approach them !!

ShakespearesSisters · 23/04/2021 22:16

Omg, so pleased to see I'm not alone. I've been trying to work out what I must have changed to start getting so many shocks. I get them off everything but I also zap the kids and the cat, they are rather fed up of me.

Northernsoullover · 23/04/2021 22:17

Yes for the last week!

Littleroundsponge · 23/04/2021 22:17

Yep, been getting this constantly over the past week or so!

Pinkmagic1 · 23/04/2021 22:18

Yes! Its been terrible the last month or so and I have taken to shuting the car door with my foot!. Some of the shocks have been really bad too, equivalent to touching a fully charged electric fence!

tapdancingmum · 23/04/2021 22:20

It's that bad that when I combed my hair earlier it all stood up on end 😂. I saw something on FB that it's to do with the unusually dry air at the moment. Please rain (but just overnight) and not too much. Ta

Snozzlemaid · 23/04/2021 22:21

Yes, me too.
I do get like this sometimes but for the last couple of weeks my hair's been full of static and I'm getting shocks all the time.
Interesting to read about the dry air.

Ormally · 23/04/2021 22:23

Yes, really violent ones...I thought it was use of hand sanitizer (that is, made worse - it can have slight conductive properties).

SamBeckettsLastLeap · 23/04/2021 22:26

Honestly thank fuck for your post, I was beginning to think I was going to leap again Wink. This last week has been horrendous, I've also been shutting doors with my feet but I've been shocked by weird things that haven't bothered me in the past.
As a child I remember making sparks in the dark in my room but I think polyester had a hand in that.

Mimilamore · 23/04/2021 22:30

I'm another one getting them from random items...

Tanfastic · 23/04/2021 22:31

Oh wow can't believe this, I only mentioned to DH yesterday that I can't touch anything at the minute as I keep getting electric shocks. Literally loads.

Glad it's a thing!

Pinkorblue25 · 23/04/2021 22:32

I was combing one of my cats earlier & thought his fur seemed to be really static which it never usually is

StCharlotte · 23/04/2021 22:34

@Toty

Yes! All the time. From everything. I got quite a big one from an unplugged appliance earlier and the cat is freaking out, she keeps rubbing against me and getting shocks Confused
I have a cat who really doesn't like me. Even more so since I touched his nose and gave him a shock. Twice.
Adarajames · 23/04/2021 22:34

YES!! Glad it’s not just me losing the plot! The poor dogs are traumatised by my cuddles suddenly being electric! (Ok. It traumatised, just mildly bemused before I get shouted at for badly treating them, I don’t!) wondered why all of a sudden!

BettyOBarley · 23/04/2021 22:34

Yes! Keep getting them from DD when she touches or kisses me. No one else though.

Adarajames · 23/04/2021 22:35

*not traumatised

Gertie75 · 23/04/2021 22:36

Me too!!
Everytime I get out of the car, the static on my hair was awful last week too, I put it down to being at the caravan and thought it was something to do with the material of the awning.

Horehound · 23/04/2021 22:37

Yes!! I've had so many also in the last two weeks. Wtf

Cissyandflora · 23/04/2021 22:41

Oh gosh I’ve had this constantly. For weeks. At first I blamed my son for putting my lounge pants in the tumble dryer. I thought he’d somehow charged me up. But then realising it couldn’t be that because I’m not wearing said pants, I put it down to having bean bags in the house. I now see that someone is saying it might be menopause.

ilovebagpuss · 23/04/2021 22:42

Yes ! Glad it’s not just me I know my hair is out of control but I hoped it wasn’t a sign of my Wookiee style Grin
I was on the plastic lounger earlier and had one hand dangling, as the cat comes over I always touch his nose with one finger and I shocked the poor little blighter right on his nose.
We need rain

Dartsplayer · 23/04/2021 22:48

Yes loads lately especially when I kiss my daughters when I drop them at school. They both reel back in shock and it really hurts. They are starting to get too nervous to kiss me

MizMoonshine · 23/04/2021 22:57

Several a day for the last few weeks.
I complained to DP earlier that even the baby is zapping me!
