I keep getting static shocks

Anyone else?

for the last couple of weeks I've been getting loads of static shocks. Not just normal things like jumpers either.

This morning I kissed DS on top of his head and there got a shock on my lips! At about 11ish I turned on a tap and it gave me a shock. Door handles - shock. Hug DD shock. All with a proper loud clicky noise and DD swears she saw a spark when I touched the radiator the other day.

NO ONE else is getting them unless I am involved IYSWIM - so dp and dd could hug and nothing would happen.

Its nothing to do with the house because I get them outside. I don't thiknk its to do with my clothes because I change them daily anyway and it still happens.

Any explanation??? Any one else? Or am I being contacted from the afterlife by some evil spirit?? Or well ... what?

Yes, me too. Also someone mentioned having really dry lips which I have too. Static not that usual for me but lips are. Even the dogs and kids are static at the moment, it's weird.

Yes, definitely been bad the last couple of weeks.

Got a nasty shock from car door today and even the dog gave me an electric shock (or vice versa) last week. He looked puzzled!!

DD complaining of very dry lips too.

OutComeTheWolves · 23/04/2021 23:15

Me too every time I touch my car!!

ZaraCarmichaelshighheels · 23/04/2021 23:17

Another sufferer here! It’s pretty constant for me, cars, door handles, trolleys, had a really bad shock from putting a pound coin in the parking meter the other day and my garden plastic wicker sofa hates me.

Fifipop185 · 23/04/2021 23:23

YES!!! It's worse when I wear trainers and drive my car. I got a huge bolt when I touched the petrol pump to fill up the car last week. My hand tingled and felt zappy for hours after. I'm now too scared to touch my car doors and make DD open and close them for me. It's only affecting me, no one else Confused

bunburyscucumbersandwich · 23/04/2021 23:34

@DuchessOfBuggerAll

Oh it's a thing is it? Every time I touch the car door I jump back with the shock. Every single time. And I don't learn so it's a surprise every time.
I've been getting shocks from my car too! I thought it was odd as it's usually very occasionally it happens, but for the past couple of weeks it's every time I get out of the car!
ZaraCarmichaelshighheels · 23/04/2021 23:41

I might invest in these.......I’m only half joking!

I keep getting static shocks
3CCC · 23/04/2021 23:41

Yes!!! I kept getting them during the lockdown earlier this year. And getting them more than I usually do even now

HopingForOurRainbowBaby · 23/04/2021 23:48

I've been getting loads of electric shocks off my car door and for some obscure reason my hair is also mega fly away at the moment. I started blaming aldi shampoo for it but maybe it isn't that

Frlrlrubert · 24/04/2021 00:04

Dry air. I teach science and the static practicals don't work if it's raining outside!

I've always been staticky- I close my car door by pushing on the window, but it has been particularly bad this past month. Dry lips here too.

ItsDinah · 24/04/2021 00:06

Dry air can cause them. Carry a metal object like a key and use it to deliberately discharge yourself of the static charge every so often. You do this by touching the key to another metal object. To avoid shocks from cars, grip the metal part of the door with both hands before you put your feet onto the ground. If you're outside the car, touch the key to a metal part of the car before touching it with your hands.

Houseofvelour · 24/04/2021 00:07

Same! I had no idea everyone else has as well! I thought it was just me 🙈

UniversitySerf · 24/04/2021 02:11

I’m so glad I found this thread, I have all’s been having loads lately and was wondering what it was.

CatRamsey · 24/04/2021 02:21

Ohhh this happens to me! Everytime I open my locker at work I have to brace myself for the shock! Sometimes just brushing past a wall I get one too. Also my cats! It's so weird

Sarahzb · 24/04/2021 02:45

It’s been very dry. So yes, been getting shocks when closing the car door etc. You can touch the offending object with a coin or a paper clip. Hope it rains soon...

maybelou · 24/04/2021 03:10

Yes, I keep shocking my cats! I think they like me less now🙈 Hope it sorts itself out soon

ABitOfAShitShow · 24/04/2021 03:10

I’ve got this at the moment - especially with the taps, metal hob and kettle! And, actually, when I straightened my hair tonight (although that’s the first time). How bizarre!

listershologram · 24/04/2021 04:06

How odd, I don't think I've had one for years and nobody I know has mentioned it either. I work in a place with cheap carpets and always wear doc marten shoes so I would expect to get them now that you mention it but at home we have no carpets and I always go bare foot so maybe that's why.

FigDate · 24/04/2021 05:16

I get this normally but more so recently. Tips are to earth yourself by walking barefoot on grass/soil everyday. Tumble dryer sheets will instantly take the static out of clothing/hair etc. Just rub a sheet across it.

EssexLioness · 24/04/2021 06:53

Omg, so pleased you posted. The same has been happening to me the last few weeks for no apparent reason and we couldn’t work it out. I zap the dog when I stroke him, my husband when we kiss, and almost every light switch, the oven etc whenever I touch them. Think maybe a dozen times a day easily. Never had this happen except on rally rare occasions before. It’s really annoying and wish it would stop tbh

VaggieMight · 24/04/2021 07:02

Yes! I keep getting them when I stroke my puppy. I'm worried that he thinks I give him electric shocks. I tend to touch towards his back end now first just in case, figured he'll prefer a shock there than to his head.

UpAt5amAgain · 24/04/2021 07:30

I'm the same. I've always been prone to them but the past few weeks have been worse than usual.

DH almost never gets them for some reason but when he does he wants to call an ambulance Grin I try to explain I can have dozens in a day but he's sceptical someone would survive such an ordeal

SmellsLikeGrandma · 24/04/2021 08:04

Yes!

Car doors, other people, appliances... I've also got really dry, sore, chapped lips as I'd normally get in January.

I wore leggings over tights for work yesterday and the crackling as I took them off was like nothing I've heard before.

I don't tumble dry laundry and go barefoot as much as possible.

I'm also perimenopausal so no idea if that has anything to do with it...
