'One project a day' thread

... many years ago when i was first on MN I started (or maybe just actively participated in, cannot quite recall) a one (house) project a day. It made the most profound difference to my home. The project could be time consuming or not. It could take seconds, minutes or hours. I recall things like changing the lightbulb and lampshade in a hallway table lamp for example as a single day project. One day i also threw away holey and raggedy cushion covers and bought news ones. Little things, that really mattered.

If anyone is interested I wish to start another thread.

Today, as my one project a day, I cleared out my dehydrated and weed-ridden window boxes (2 of them). I put new compost in them and planted them with lobelia (obviously!); red geraniums and some dianthus. I am happy looking out (and in!) my front windows now. :)

Today's job is the long neglected bathroom that needs cleaning. Whoever thought white bathrooms were a good idea needs a kick up the arse lol

Tyredofallthis1 · 24/04/2021 08:31

I'm watching all the garden stuff with awe. I haven't a clue.

But I have a stack of seeds, some potting compost and today's challenge. I have saved fizzy drinks bottles for a while, so I am cutting the bottom off them to plant seeds in.

I have no idea what I'm doing! I'm just going to shove the seeds in, keep damp and hope.

Today's challenge is getting all the bottles together and cutting the bottoms off. They will just fit on my tiny windowsills.

Yesterday, I finally cleaned the huge bucket of garden slate chips that have been sat on the patio for weeks, and took a boot load of stuff to the tip. I also bagged up lots of outgrown clothes for a school charity thing.

17bluebirds · 24/04/2021 08:36

Tidied the whole house this morning, and cleaned the kitchen, and its not even 9am!

DS is going to his dad's today, so I'm out to see friends, so not planning to do much more today

that is exactly how I started (like about 4 weeks ago so a new gardener here!).

I have also joined a local facebook group that swaps seedlings (and eventually vegetables) because I did not realise that when I planted 50 butternut squash seeds that at least 45 would come up as seedlings. Hmm Grin

I've just found this thread and would love to join in. I will start tomorrow! I have dying seedlings to replant!

Pearlington27 · 24/04/2021 10:54

Thank again OP for starting this thread! I didn't do anything for the last couple of days but made up for it today. It was a super productive day. I filled skip bin with yard waste, filled the garden waste bin, cleaned out the cutlery drawers and pantry, started a new bag for charity shop donations. I've also started a list of 5 minute jobs so that I don't become so overwhelmed by all the little things that need to be done. I managed to get a few of these done as well. Feeling super happy with myself 😊

Breathmiller · 24/04/2021 11:23

Didn't manage anything myself yesterday but I was busy doing work and other basic house stuff while dh stripped the wallpaper. I did start a new meditation course too so, something that is still good for me.

Today I have moved the charity shop bags under the stairs to the car.

Chunkymonkey123 · 24/04/2021 12:19

I have spent two hours moving sand down the garden, only half way through and knackered so stopping now and will do more tomorrow.
I need to do more sorting out for charity but my spare room is already full of bags!
Today I will put the picture I got for my birthday in January (!!!) in its frame.

Divineswirls · 24/04/2021 12:22

My sponges and sugar soap arrived today. I'm planning on cleaning one wall at a time in every room. I'm hoping they may not all need a lick of paint after.
The scrapper thing didn't arrive so I'll have to get one for paint that's bubbled up in a couple of areas ( been like it for 10 years ) luckily the paint is still white from when we moved in 12 years ago and have only repainted one room.
All the doors need repainting as DC hand prints all over them. Will probably actually tackle those first. Front door desperately needs sanding and repainting because I foolishly repainted it without sanding first and it's all peeling off now

Divineswirls · 24/04/2021 15:00

Cleaned kitchen window inside and out and scrubbed small table we use outside. In between I've been reading my book in the garden which I never normally have time for

mogloveseggs · 24/04/2021 15:10

I got the marks on the carpet sorted yesterday. So today is planting and mopping the kitchen floor.

RunningKatie · 24/04/2021 15:16

I've just set the dc on cleaning their rooms. It is a gorgeous day and they want screen time so this delays the inevitable a bit!
I still need to clear the dining room, but thanks to this thread motivating me i've managed a week of TOMM which is unheard of!

Sparklynewname · 24/04/2021 15:44

I reloaded the FlyLadyPlus app yesterday and have just dived straight i on zone one, hoping to play catch up and eventually get to the same place as everyone else ha!
STILL haven’t done the pots!
Have cleared off the coat rack and got a bag of stuff to go and some bits to sell though.

mogloveseggs · 24/04/2021 15:53

Just scrubbed the acrylic paint off the sink which has been there well let's not go there

Catname · 24/04/2021 16:02

I’ve washed the insides of the windows I did the other day and the glass panels in the three doors we have with them. DP would like us to have a window cleaner but I have a distrust of window cleaners (and taxi drivers) based on previous experience - plus I’m not sufficiently house proud to think that ours get dirty enough to need washed every month and I’m a skinflint for things like that 😀

BeautifulandWilfulandDead · 24/04/2021 17:11

Stripped wallpaper and removed horrid ornamental bits from very sturdy bit hideous 1980s wardrobe today! Very pleased. Tomorrow, filling and sanding.

DeathMetalMum · 24/04/2021 17:27

I've tied up the raspberry canes today, putting in an extra support. We were supposed to be going out for the day but had a problem with the car (which is hopefully sorted). I didn't have a task planned for today originally, so got something extra done.

Tomorrow I will sort out the rest of my underwear drawers.

ShinyHatStand · 24/04/2021 17:44

Day 1: fail
Day 2: painted 2 fence panels

2020nymph · 24/04/2021 18:47

I've spent this afternoon weeding which turned in to a pruning session and DH is fixing the shed roof. Our garden needs so much work.

Now that DS has gone up a clothes size he needs new hangers, found some from ikea. £5 for 40 hangers then £4 delivery but that still cheaper then going there 😉 but do I need anything else from ikea?

ShortSilence · 24/04/2021 18:52

Finally sorted that shelf! I think I’ve missed a day on this thread but even so, the thought of it has been really motivating and I did the shelf yesterday, then pruning today. And dug up some of the black-eyed Susans patch that was encroaching on our japonica and kind of smothering it.

Our garden needs SO much work too, 2020nymph. It’s a bit embarrassing. I don’t know what half the inherited plants are Blush

TheHoneyBadger · 24/04/2021 19:15

I need to join. I will start tomorrow.

mogloveseggs · 24/04/2021 19:36

Plants done floor mopped!

coodawoodashooda · 24/04/2021 19:38

I've cleared branches out of a bush. I'm also worried that this thread is going to give me ocd. Only half joking.

mogloveseggs · 24/04/2021 19:38

@2020nymph you need meatballs! Grin
