Why are Oreos so popular?

I don't get it.
They are less chocolatey than bourbons.
They are more expensive than bourbons.
Yet they get mushed into ice cream, smashed into slushies, added to sundaes and loads of desserts. But they just aren't that nice are they?
Or are they? What is it about them that makes them so popular?

I was brought up on Oreos before they arrived in the U.K. so for me they just ‘are’. The standard cookie.
I only buy biscuits maybe once a year as I don’t have much of a sweet tooth.
I am a dark choc digestive loyalist but an Oreo is great.
Totally understand some likening them to ‘dog biscuits’ or ‘hard tack’ - that’s why I love them - short, not too sweet, salty and plenty of cocoa taste. I could do without the icing personally.
Bourbons for me are too sweet, too soft, taste of sweet fat (almost coconut ty?!) and not very chocolatey and as a dark chocolate eater, the colour doesn’t tell my brain that they’ll be good.

Like Hershey’s and Reece’s whatever - they’re a massive disappointment.

I've never understood it either, they are so boring and a complete waste of calories, at a push the golden ones are okay, and the peanut butter ones are nice enough but I'd always choose chocolate digestives or chocolate hob nobs. There's nothing worse then when you go to McDonald's for a McFlurry and all they have left is the bloody Oreo one.

Just to add Reeses peanut butter cups are my favourite as is peanut butter kit kat.
