Who do your DC look like?

shipsandgiggles · 03/04/2021 10:42

Just that really! I’ve never thought our DC resembled either of us, DD looks a bit like SIL as a child but that’s about it, then DM showed me photos of me as a child and both DC look like me. Do any of your DC not resemble anyone in your family? Or are they the image of you?

DS1 looks completely and entirely like me (other than the fact he is a boy, obviously). Nothing like his dad whatsoever, who has a completely different colouring and also very different features. I’ve had strangers in the street comment on it. It was the first thing his teacher said on parents evening videocall recently.

My much younger brother also looks like me, therefore DS1 looks like my brother as a child. When DS1 started primary school one of my brother’s old teachers recognised DS1 as being DBro’s nephew, despite it having been 15 years since she had taught him (I think teacher knew my mum to talk to if they passed in the street, so knew DS was starting, not quite as amazing as that sounds).

DS2 is my colouring but facially closer to DH. Therefore DS1 and 2 look nothing like brothers.

BogRollBOGOF · 05/04/2021 13:34

I'd never get away with disowning my DCs Grin
DS2 is a complete mini-me, although looked particularly strongly like my mother on baby photos.
DS1 is strongly like me but is gaining more of DH's features as he gets older.

My family have a strong look anyway. People used to think my cousin and I were twins as children... she's not even the closest of cousins genetically.

Appletreehat · 05/04/2021 13:59

DD looked like me when she was born but I would say at 18 months old now, she looks like a real mix of Dh and I. My face shape, nose and lips, dhs colouring, height and dimples!

I saw an old pic of my mum when she was a toddler and Dd really looks like her, quite a few of my family members saw and pointed it out too.

mamaduckbone · 05/04/2021 14:29

My eldest looks like his dad, and is very alike in temperament, and the youngest looks like me and is much more like me.
It's like the genes didn't get very evenly distributed in our family.

meow1989 · 05/04/2021 14:46

Ds was spit of dh (as a child and now) until about 2 when he started to start looking more like me - he has my features (eyes, nose, mouth) but still in some pictures of dh as a child you almost can't tell the difference. He's got dh colouring.

I look like my dad more than my mum and though people say my sister and I look very alike we don't see it.

Amusingly people say my dh and his brother look exactly like one of their parents each (but nothing like eachother) they're actually adopted.

DanielODonkey · 05/04/2021 14:50

Apart from hair colour, I've managed to clone myself twice. DH tries to suggest on or other of the children are similar to him but he knows he's on a hiding to nothing.

The kids even have freckles in the same place as me.

shipsandgiggles · 05/04/2021 14:52

This is so interesting, especially adopted DC looking like their parents!

DS1, now adult, is a taller, broader, male version of me, only his eyes are blue rather than hazel like mine. DS2 resembles his dad, facially and in build. DS3 is a mixture of his brothers, he looks like what you'd get if you used an app to merge DS1 & DS2's faces together. If you see the three of them together it's obvious they are brothers, but the resemblance is not so obvious if you just look at the older two.

Potpourriandpennysweets · 05/04/2021 14:55

Themselves. They don't look much like their parents, grandparents or each other TBH

Strokethefurrywall · 05/04/2021 15:11

DS1 now looks like me around the eyes, DS2 looks like DH.

When they were born it was the other way around. DH and I are both similar looking, dark hair, dark eyes, olive skin so it will be interesting to see them as they grow.

elp30 · 05/04/2021 15:18

I have three children and none of them look like me.

I am dark-eyed, black-haired (currently 95% white) dark complexioned Hispanic woman.

My first husband and the father of my oldest is a fair-complexioned, green-eyed Hispanic man.

Our son has all my ex's mannerisms and looks like him but is dark-eyed and much darker complexion than me. He's been described to many as a Black Latino male. I can see why people would say that but he's not. I'm sure it's to do with somewhere in our genetic past.

My second husband is a white English man with blue eyes and our two children favor his family's look.

Our son looks like my FIL but a little darker and green-eyed with black hair like mine.

Our daughter looks like my MIL but has light brown-eyes and her father's brown hair. MIL is a blonde.

Get the three children together and you can see they have similarities to each other. Seeing as one of them is a half-sibling, it must be what they have in common with me.

JackieTheFart · 05/04/2021 16:02

All of mine look like my husband. Which pisses me off - I did all the hard work, dammit! Grin

allfurcoatnoknickers · 05/04/2021 16:16

DS looks exactly like me. It looks like I've cloned myself and it's actually slightly unnerving sometimes.

BearSoFair · 05/04/2021 16:23

DS1 looks like DH, DD looks exactly like her cousin - you'd think they were sisters, DS2 doesn't really look like anyone else in the family!

shipsandgiggles · 05/04/2021 16:25

My genes must not be very strong😂 I don’t think either of my DC you can see a striking resemblance to either of us.

Eldest ds like my dh , youngest ds like me

HSHorror · 05/04/2021 19:46

Dd1 me with mil hair.
Dd2 ??

RosieLemonade · 05/04/2021 19:59

I have an identical twin sister. We have DD of similar ages. They are complete doubles despite obviously having different dads. People always think they are sisters.

CloudFormations · 05/04/2021 20:04

My son is the image of his dad, even at 4 months

B1rdflyinghigh · 05/04/2021 20:15

DD has my eyes, nose and hair colour. She has her Dad's lips and the cheek dimples from his family.
I asked her who she thinks she looks like and she showed me her thumbs. I've got a fat thumb like Daddy and a thin thumb like you...she does too! Weirdo! Grin

TheWaif · 05/04/2021 20:17

DD looks mostly like MIL poor thing

babybythesea · 05/04/2021 20:32

My eldest apparently looks like me. I can't see it but it gets commented on.
My youngest is a female version of DH. She's very like him in character too. It's a bit irritating. I did the hard work of pregnancy, child birth and breastfeeding and she doesn't even have the decency to slightly resemble me.

Aria20 · 05/04/2021 20:47

Ds1 is my husbands mini me - only my eyes, also has his dad's personality!
Ds2 is my mini me - with dads eyes, with my personality.
Dd is a real mix of her brothers looks and personality - I'd say looks more like me but personality more like dads and ds1 though!

lachy · 05/04/2021 20:55

Most people would say DD is my double; sometimes I catch a glimpse of her and she's the image of DH.

My DSis and DAunt are incredibly alike, and my cousins daughter is so like him it's uncanny...The genes are strong on my dad's side for sure.

WorriedMillie · 05/04/2021 20:58

DD looks like me when awake and DP when asleep. Always has done, it’s the eyes for sure
