How do you pronounce the word troll.

Does it rhyme with doll or roll.

I may or may not have been mispronouncing this all my life.

If you say doll and roll to not rhyme what other words do they rhyme with.

I pronounce troll as 'sad little fuckwit'. That's how it sounds in my head anyway.

ApplesPearsAndCrumble that sounds very tempting as Nicolas Cage is very gorgeous but, if it's a disappointment then I won't bother.

Holl rhymes with all the above!

Ok well how about the holl in holly, does that work?
Holly & dolly rhyme but the doll on its own has a different sound to dolly

Roll, hole, mole, coal and soul all rhyme. Doll does not.

I’m also baffled at doll rhyming with roll.

Reading this thread has made me realise I say it differently for different types. So your classic, loitering under a bridge type troll i rhyme with roll. And your mean person making things up on the internet type troll i rhyme with doll.

DH is trying to convince me that he pronounces the -oll of doll and roll differently but he does not. (He also claims that Alice and Ellis sound different, but all you not-Kiwi people are just trying to trick me on that one.)
