How do you pronounce the word troll.

Does it rhyme with doll or roll.

I may or may not have been mispronouncing this all my life.

Roll because that's how it was pronounced when I was young and my mum read me Three Billy Goats Gruff.

I always laugh at the way my DH says it to rhyme with doll, it just sounds funny to me! I say it to rhyme with roll (because it's basically that same word but with 't' at the start of it) but I don't think either is correct or incorrect.

Yes - I will pronounce the noun ‘trole’ when singing the billy goats gruff song to DS: ‘I’m a troll, fol de rol, and I’ll eat you for supper...’

But our version of the Billy Goat Gruff story had troll rhymes with doll, as the troll bellowed "I'm a troll, fol-de-rol, and I'm going to eat you for breakfast"

Well depends how you pronounce doll?
I pronounce troll, roll and doll the same.
As in
Doll=dole
