Banana is two and clock is three - cookie is 10 = 70?
I’m I right I’m a bit competitive 😀😀

quizqueen · 21/03/2021 19:22

no, I'm wrong - just noticed the bananas are singles and only 7 dots on biscuit and clock shows 2 o'clock, not 3......so
2 + 1 + ( 1 x7) = 10

answer 10

LadyfromtheBelleEpoque · 21/03/2021 19:22

Thanks Errol - I get that

Using BIDMAS it’s 10

So its

(2 +1) (1 x7)

why not

(2 + 1 + 1) x 7
Because if it had been those it would need the brackets.
brackets, then 'order' ie exponentiation, then multiplications and division, then add and subtract . Thems the rules.

Nith

I never learnt BODMAS or any variant of it, so for me the answer to that sum is 28. To arrive at the answer 10, the sum would have to be written the other way round.

That's ok. BODMAS basically means that it can be read left to right, right to left and still come out with the same result, because it's the operators in between that tell you which order to perform the calculation:

1 + 2+ 1 x 7

Because "x" takes precedence over "+" that 1 x7 is calculated first and then the answer plugged into the rest of the equation.

BODMAS is usually the thing that trips people up in these quizzes but in this one, I was so busy looking at the BODMAS that I didn't see the real trick which is that the icons aren't the same.

11
Clock =3, 1banana=1 cookie with only 7chips =7
3+1+1x7
(1x7)+ 3+1=11

Whydidimarryhim · 21/03/2021 19:27

I’m going 49 now!!!!

Humpty11 · 21/03/2021 19:27

32?

Humpty11 · 21/03/2021 19:29

Actually 28 - 2 + 1 + 1 x 7 = 28

Unsure33 · 21/03/2021 19:30

11

Purplewithred · 21/03/2021 19:31

25: 3 + 2 + (2x10)

ShipOfTheseus · 21/03/2021 19:32
@ShipOfTheseus

So its

(2 +1) (1 x7)

why not

(2 + 1 + 1) x 7
Because it doesn’t have any brackets in. You have added those brackets above and they change the calculation. There is only one number linked to the 7: 1 x 7. There are no other options.

screwthepyramids · 21/03/2021 19:32

45

Whitegrenache · 21/03/2021 19:34

14 if bodmas

Whitegrenache · 21/03/2021 19:35

Or 13 if count choc chips on cookie

LemonRoses · 21/03/2021 19:36
 1. 3+2+(2*10)
Whitegrenache · 21/03/2021 19:37

Ahhh or 10 if clock changes

ErrolTheDragon · 21/03/2021 19:37
 • So its

(2 +1) (1 x7)
*

Actually what you've written there is wrong too. It's 2+ 1 + (1x7) or (2+1) + (1x7)

By omitting a + sign you've implicitly made the two bracketed terms multiply each other - (2 +1) (1 x7) is equivalent to (2 +1) x ( 1 x7).

I’m going with we can’t possibly know the answer for sure 😉

Or 10 😂😂
