Does anybody actually like chocolate liqueurs?!

Or do I mean liqueur chocolates? I didn't even know they made these anymore until I found some in the cupboard earlier.

Having forgotten how much I always hated them, and being greedy desperate for a chocolate hit, I ate one. Or rather - I tried to! Bleurch!

Does anyone out there like them?

No. But when they're the last of the Christmas chocolates, needs must.

Oooooweeeee · 17/03/2021 21:49

Ugh no, awful!

Tangogolf55 · 17/03/2021 21:49

Cherry liqueurs! Yum!

Nope, yuck.

Also violet or rose type ones 🤮

rookiemere · 17/03/2021 21:51

I am not a fan but DH loves them.

TheVanguardSix · 17/03/2021 21:51

Yes to cherry liqueurs! Mon Cheri! Yum!
As for straight-up chocolate liqueurs? Not even as a last resort.

FlashBathroom · 17/03/2021 21:51

Love them! Especially the ones that are shaped like mini bottles Smile

Renlay · 17/03/2021 21:52

It's strange isn't it?

Chocolate - ✅
Alcohol - ✅
Alcohol in chocolate - 🤮

No. But I left some in the bin outside once and a squirrel got pissed on them.

I knew the squirrel and he was usually a very docile chap, but he was out of his tree that day. Yelling at magpies and what not.

He was fine. I have him lots of wholemeal toast the next day to soak it up.

That squirrel is the only living being I’ve known to enjoy liqueur chocolates.

mynameiscalypso · 17/03/2021 21:54

Weirdly I was going to start this exact thread last night. I don't get it at all. The booze just ruins it. I will tolerate a champagne truffle but it has to be very subtle. I really don't like it when the booze is totally overpowering - Hotel Chocolat, I'm looking at you.

MrsWP · 17/03/2021 21:56

Is it weird to say 'I don't know' if I like them?

Like I can't tell if I do or don't?

I don't think I really do like them.

But to me they're a sort of Christmas tradition. Eat one as they're passed round. Then you can discuss how weird they are. Have another for luck.

So while the chocolate itself is shite. They have a place in my heart.

  • the Baileys truffles however! Those I DO like.
TheYearOfSmallThings · 17/03/2021 21:57

That is hilarious. I am picturing a drunken belligerent squirrel lurching around swigging from a little chocolate bottle.

Theelderscrolls · 17/03/2021 21:59

Yuck, no.

Though I am intrigued by the Bailey's truffles pp has mentioned....

SomethingbeginningL · 17/03/2021 22:00

Yes! Yum. Haven't seen them for years though?
I remember sneaking a few as a child at my granddad's house.

MrsWP · 17/03/2021 22:00

@SmidgenofaPigeon - thanks for the laugh. What a lovely image.

And you giving him toast for his hangover. I love the whole story.

One trip to Centre Parcs I put a few Ferraro Rochers out for the squirrels as we'd run out of the nuts we'd taken for them and it was Christmas and we were awash with chocolates.

The furry little bastards LOVED them. Nutella all over their faces.

(Still do feel a bit guilty though! Hope I didn't make any of them sick!)

LaurieFairyCake · 17/03/2021 22:00

I love the mini bottles with real liqueurs in them

I'm not sure they do them with the pure alcohol in them - isn't it just a ganache now ? Sad

CornishPastyDownUnder · 17/03/2021 22:07

Haha-same here..
Needs must&when desperate for a fix ive been known to dust off a manky box of the devils own creation..kind of crush out the liquer into sink so as its not such an assault-always regret it : )
Even got the teen DC to try them last new year-initially excited at the thought of illicit booze-in-choc...then refused to speak to me as they tasted so bad.

MusicTeacherSussex · 17/03/2021 22:14

I love them! The polish brands are best

Cherrysoup · 17/03/2021 22:17

Yabu. Cherry liqueurs are lush. One time, I discovered a Pernod version, omg, so good!

Camomila · 17/03/2021 22:18

I love them too, especially mon cheris (the lidl knock off version is also tasty)

Also like Baileys truffles, and champagne truffles.

Really fancy some chocolate now but I've only got cooking chocolate.

TheYearOfSmallThings · 17/03/2021 22:18

Yes, I like the Solidarnosc ones in Tesco, although the liqueur is on the harsh side - I kind of like the burn!

Not as good as Leonidas though.

CattyCactus · 17/03/2021 22:19

Haven’t had chocolate liqueurs for ages.
But proper mini chocolate bottles with real booze are brill.
I need to find some now. 🍫🥃

LostToucan · 17/03/2021 22:19

M&S chocolate cherry liqueurs are rather splendid.
