What have you recently realised that’s made you feel like a bit of an idiot?

Mine is that I didn’t know you shouldn’t flush tampons down the toilet...... I swear I remember my mother telling me I could when I first started using them, and that’s what I’ve done for 14 years! It was only through a conversation with a friend (about whether you empty your bathroom bin before the cleaner comes.....) and subsequent google that I’ve found out you shouldn’t.....

So, what have you have you learnt recently that you definitely should have known before?

Don't visit Australia, you cannot leave food out on the kitchen counter.

Oh and something I learned in Australia - if you are eating outside spray insect repellant under the table so your food doesn't get contaminated but the insects will stay away.

I reckon that Simon was originally known as Peter - basically everyone called him Rocky because he was a slow thinker and a teensy bit obstinate, and Jesus's words were simply a reframing of that into the steady dependable Rock.

(There's a theory that "Magdalene" actually means "Tower". I'd love to see a story called The Tower and the Rock.)

I changed the bedding yesterday and checked using the pocket counting method and folding it corner to corner.

My king size duvet is a perfect square.

My fairly recent revelation was to discover that all Smart cars are not electric and there were no electric Smart cars for their first decade of production. I thought being electric was the whole point!

I have since stopped worrying about them when I see them in a traffic jam.

StCharlotte - I thought that Smart cars first selling point was the size and that they could be parked "sideways" in a parking space (i.e. take up the width of a parking space with their length when parking at the side of the road - not that you really see anyone doing that).

I wouldn't worry about electric cars in traffic jams. If you mean they might run out of power while they're sitting there then they don't. When they're at a standstill they don't really use much power unless you're running the heater or a/c.

There was a lack of names, 2 called James and 2 called Judas, although he became Jude

For years I believed that the same director did Brookside and Bugsy Malone, and completely conflated Alan Parker and Phil Redmond in my head. It was only when Alan Parker died last year and I wondered why there was no mention of Brookside in the news reports that I realised my mistake.

I get it. I spent yesterday evening down a rabbit hole of discovery that Katy Perry and Katie Price are not the same person and never have been . I used to wonder how she found time to get married so often.

I don't understand - which way is forward? Is it facing the shower head? What happens if you have one of those overhead rainfall showers? This is too complicated for me

I face one way to wash my front and one way to wash my back! How would you rinse otherwise?? I do wash my face in the shower, but only with a flannel, because I hate running water on my face.

Oh my goodness, I just thought of one. I was in my late teens getting ready to do a degree in theology when it occurred to me that there was more than one saint with the same name. Like, there's not just the one St Peter. Not just the one St Catherine. Not just the one St John. I'd never really thought about the fact that if there were, it must be a bit rough to be christened Peter and know that no matter how holy you were you could never be a saint because the "Peter" slot had already been taken!! The moment I figured it out, SO MUCH made sense...

I don't know why but this comment just absolutely killed me. It's just perfect especially the bit about getting ready to do a degree in theology Thank you I really needed that laugh today!
