How may times have you been included in a census and is yours very different from 2011?

This will be my 6th! I'm nowhere near 60 though. I just squeezed onto the 1971 census.

Ours will be very different this time. A different address with two less of us living here.

Nutrigrainygoodness · 10/03/2021 20:35

I just missed the 91 census
I can't remember the 01 census
11 census rented house with dp and dd
21 census nothing had changed

Alfaix · 10/03/2021 20:40

81- living with parents
91- living with parents different house and area
2001- living alone, rented house - first job after Uni
2011- living with DH, house we were buying together
2021- living with DH and DS, different house, own outright

Knittingnanny · 11/03/2021 10:45

Kindergarten I think it was after the war not 1939 but I may be wrong

kennelmaid · 11/03/2021 10:51

@Knittingnanny surely the 1921 census isn't available until next year, not last year? Confused

JellyBabiesSaveLives · 11/03/2021 10:55

So do we think the website will crash on the 21st then?

This is my 3rd or 4th, I think. I missed 71 by a couple of months and wasn't in the Uk for 81. 91 I was at uni and I don't remember doing it. My parents might have included me but I wasn't living at their house at all by that point.
01 - living with Dh
11 - different part of the UK with Dh and 3 kids
21 - another house, one of the kids is at uni but I think I include her?

Deathraystare · 11/03/2021 11:01

I am renting in housing assoc accomodation. It is not clear (and I know I could ring up but wondered if anyone knew the answer to this.

I am moving room and flat but same outside address (same tower block). There will be one other person (already there). Not a bezzie mate so don't have his name. How do I go about reply to the census. Should we both put each other down as living there or not??? Won't it muck up the results?

Shellingbynight · 11/03/2021 11:03

We did ours yesterday. The leaflet says you can complete it before the 21st if you know who will be there on that date.

census.gov.uk/help/getting-started/when-to-fill-it-in#:~:text=Can%20I%20fill%20it%20in,have%20changed%2C%20please%20contact%20us.

I would have been on census forms since 1961 but I guess I first actually completed one myself in 1981.

Knittingnanny · 11/03/2021 12:33

Yes I meant next year. I love looking them for family history and as I’m 64 the 1921 one might be the last one I see! I won’t see my own parents on one now as they were born 1928. I’m really disappointed that the 1931 was destroyed as we have an unsolved mystery which that census would hopefully have given us the answer to!

TheDoctorDances · 11/03/2021 13:05

@Knittingnanny

Kindergarten I think it was after the war not 1939 but I may be wrong
You can view the 1939 cenus online through several sites. I had a temp job uploading the data some years back. My favourite historic name I found belonged to a lady named Fanny Buckets.

Kettledodger · 11/03/2021 13:42

Mine is slightly different

78 (NZ) - Family home, parents, 2 older siblings and me
88 (NZ) - Different family home in different town, Dad and stepmother, me and 4 younger siblings
01 (UK) - Flat, DP and me
11 (UK) - Different house and town, DP, me , DSS and DS
21 (UK) - Different house, DP, me and DS

Thecomfortador · 11/03/2021 13:53

Looks like I missed out on the 1981 census.
1991 - family home, I guess 2 parents 3 children (although one sibling may have been elsewhere, I don't know)
2001- student home from uni if I remember, two parents and me
2011 - living with partner, 2 adults
2021- new partner, 2 adults, 2 children

I had to resist completing it when it arrived the other day, I do like a form to fill in, but my family have been popping off quite suddenly recently so taking nothing for granted.

happymummy12345 · 11/03/2021 14:12

My birthday is the beginning of April.
In 2001 I was 7, very nearly 8, so I don't remember it at all.
In 2011 I was nearly 18, still living at home. I think I vaguely remember my mum talking about something to do with answering questions.
This time will be the first time doing it myself. I'm married and live with my husband and our son who is 5. (Tbh I'm a little bit confused by it because I've never done it before. I know we need a code to come in the post which we haven't got yet. And there's some questions we answer as a household, then everyone who lives there has to answer some individually. I'm assuming that means my husband and I only? Not our son who wouldn't understand it anyway?)

Knittingnanny · 11/03/2021 14:36

Doctor dances, thanks I’ll have a browse

LadyDanburysCane · 11/03/2021 15:51

My sixth one too!

'71 - with parents, no siblings
'81 - same home, parents and a sibling
'91 - own home with DH, no children
'01 - same home with DH and 1 child
'11 - same home with DH and 2 children
'21 - same home with DH and 1 child (other child is doing her first one in her own home).

I haven’t actually looked at it yet but the envelope is on the kitchen table.....

NormaSnickers · 11/03/2021 16:23

‘81 living in parents house with both parents and Dsis
‘91 same but with Dbro too
‘01 living in own home, just me
‘11 same house with DH
‘21 different house with DH and DS

NobbyButtons · 11/03/2021 16:27

It's my fifth. I would have been two years old for the 1981 census.
1991 - I remember learning a bit about it in Year 7 at school.
2001 - I was in a shared student house and filled the form in by hand.
2011- I remember completing it online; that was my son's first census, same house as we live in now.
2021 - Daughter's first census.

I would like to look at the 1921 census when it's released next year, that will be the first one that my UK grandparents will be recorded on.

viques · 11/03/2021 16:29

@LagneyandCasey

MorePotatoSalad

Have you done it already? You're supposed to do it on 21st March. Dh was itching to do it when the letter came but I said no in case one of us kicks the bucket before the 21st. Fingers crossed we make it!

Not to mention you might have a mysterious stranger turn up on your doorstep needing a bed for the night. Though I suppose since we are technically still lockdowning you would be right to dismiss them from your door with a ringing cry..............
Shosha1 · 11/03/2021 16:39

This will be my 7th! Just.

1961 was 6 weeks old living with Mum, 2 siblings and Grandparents, waiting to join Dad abroad.
1971 living abroad, but Dad was RAF so have a feeling one was filled out. Would have been with parents and 4 siblings.
1981 married with one child in second marital home
1991 divorced with one child different address
2001 DH, DGD different address.
2011 DH, myself different address
2021 DH myself different address

milveycrohn · 11/03/2021 16:39

I completed mine this morning, as it said if you know your situation is going to be the same. As we will technically not be allowed any overnight visitors, then I just have to make sure that neither I nor my DH, die before 21st. (obviously, we don't want everyone trying to logon all at the same time on 21st).
Someone mentioned previous censuses, and as far as I am aware the 1931 census was destroyed by fire, and the 1941 was not done due to the war.
The records for 1939 are a register compiled for the NHS, and therefore does not fall under the 100 year rule, and is consequently available on some family history websites

Norugratsatall · 11/03/2021 16:39

My sixth

1971 - lived with parents and younger sibling
1981 - lived in different house with parents and younger sibling, same town,
1991 - newly married! Awww. Lived in different part of the country.
2001 - moved back with DH and two DC to same part of the country as I grew up in.
2011 - as above, nothing changed.
2021 - still live in same house, DC1 now moved out, DC2 moved back with us since first lockdown.

KilljoysDutch · 11/03/2021 16:49

ThisIsSimplyBeyond · 11/03/2021 17:32
