How may times have you been included in a census and is yours very different from 2011?

This will be my 6th! I'm nowhere near 60 though. I just squeezed onto the 1971 census.

Ours will be very different this time. A different address with two less of us living here.

Should we get a letter about it? We haven't had anything yet. If we don't can we fill it in anyway?

Yes, it arrives with the specific code for 'the household'.
Trouble being, it looks like the letters you get from charities, so would have been very easy to divert straight to the recycling box.

When you log on, you put the code in and then can fill it in.

I have no idea what the system is, but can't help feeling there HAS to be a system for people who don't get a code, or lose it / put it in the recycling without realising what it is. There are bound to be loads of people in the same boat.

Oooh I like this game!

1981: aged 5. Lived with both parents and both siblings.
1991: aged 15. Same house, lived with both parents, both siblings had moved out.
2001: aged 25. Same house - I had moved out and moved back in. DF had died in 1996, now lived with DM and 1yo DD.
2011: aged 35. Same house. DM had died in 2009 so me and 11yo DD.
2021: aged 45. Same house! Me and 21yo DD. Same job as in 2001 too, I've actually worked there since 2000.

@Raahh

I was born at the end of 71, so 81- My mum had a job working for the census, and went around the local estate helping people fill their's in. I remember going with her to drop off the forms.

81- me, sister, mum and dad
91- uni hall of residence
2001- living in own house on my own
2011- different rented house, married with 3 children.
2021- same as above.(plus dog)

I also do not remember filling in the 2011 one!

My mum did that in 81 too

If you're in Scotland ours has been delayed until next year. I was wondering why I hadn't heard anything when friends in England were talking about theirs.

I remember the 2011 one, it was my first one I did myself as I was still living with my parents in 2001. I remember filling it in and my ex wanting to put Jedi down as his religion as it was going around online that it would make it officially recognised if enough people did it (which of course wasn't true.) He didn't want to fill it in at all but I'm sure it was compulsory then too. I might be mistaken but I think it was a paper form only then still.

I don't think we have had a letter yet. If I click don't have a code will that issue another one? Our post is taking a while so it may not arrive on time.
Should I click don't have a code ASAP? Or see if it turns up early next week?

@Elleherd

Anyone know what someone who lives at more than one address should do? IE rents room for work and lives there a lot but also has dwelling elsewhere.
It is where you are on the 21st that you go by.
sneakysnoopysniper · 14/03/2021 01:32

Im in my 70s so this will be my 7th census that I have filled in a form. Also worked on the census several times:-

1961 – just moved into my first flat

1971 – worked as a census enumerator – living in a different flat

1981 – worked as a census enumerator – living in a different home

1991 – worked as a census enumerator – moved from the city I was born in so living in different home

2001 – living in current home

2011 – living in current home

2012 – living in current home

MrsFezziwig · 14/03/2021 01:43

My seventh!

1961 - with mum, dad and brother
1971 - teenager with mum and brother
1981 - my own house bought with boyfriend
1991 - different house with same partner (now husband)
2001 - same house, just me
2011 - same house, just me
2021 - different house, just me

It’s fine to fill it in beforehand, I haven’t had any overnight visitors in four years so I doubt I’ll be having any on 21st!

I did expect there to be more questions, and wonder if anyone knows why out of all the questions they could have asked, why they want to know what sort of heating you have?Confused

Princesspickle777 · 14/03/2021 02:07

4th for me
91 - baby
01 - at hone with parents
11 - still at home with parents
21 - 2nd house with partner & kids

YouReallyAre · 14/03/2021 07:49

This is my first one since DD was born. I'm no longer with her dad and the 21st is his weekend with her so does he have to add her to his? I'm actually feeling quite sad if this it to be the case!

KihoBebiluPute · 14/03/2021 08:16

@YouReallyAre I think iirc that there is a section to declare people who are normally part of the household but are away that night. I think students who are away at university get counted like that.

YouReallyAre · 14/03/2021 08:19

@KihoBebiluPute that's great, thank you

Annoy · 14/03/2021 08:37

2001 At home, 1 parent, 1 dead parent (1994), 1 step dad, 1 sibling, 1 half-sibling.

2011 Own home, Dh, 1 dog, 1 child.

2021 Different own home in different UK country, same DH, no dog 😢 (died 2020), 2 dc.

Annoy · 14/03/2021 08:45

It’s amazing how much can change in just 10yrs!

If you click don’t have a code they text or email you one I think

If she is usually resident at your address then you do include her but there is a bit asking if they regularly reside elsewhere. Her Dad should include her as a visitor on his.
happymummy12345 · 14/03/2021 13:06

@LadyDanburysCane thank you. I'll have a look to double check we haven't got the letter first, then if not I'll do that tomorrow.

AlanThePig · 14/03/2021 14:44

'81 - Childhood home, just me and my parents. No siblings.
'91 - As above
'01 - DH and I first home, we now have 2 children
'11 - Same first home, children at home still.
'21 -A new home for DH and I! One child now lives several hundred miles away for work and the other still lives in our old home, which he purchased from DH and I.

YouReallyAre · 14/03/2021 14:49

@LadyDanburysCane that's great, thank you. I'll casually try and drop that into can conversation!
