Inspired by a thread about bad singers. In your opinion, which singers have the best voices? I'll vote:

Michael Jackson
Stevie Wonder
James Morrison (underrated)
Christina Aguilera
Celion Dion
Mariah Carey
Whitney Houston
Joss Stone

Jennifer Hudson

camsie · 05/03/2021 17:12

Karen Carpenter.

Agree with Brendon Urie, listen to panic at the discos cover of bohemian rhapsody as an example.

Jessie J has an amazing voice. Agree with a pp about FKA twigs-her voice gives me shivers, really beautiful.

Paolo Nutini
Alicia Keys
Amy whinehouse
Sia is incredible, although not to my taste

TwoBreakingIntoOne · 05/03/2021 17:14

Oh I loved Kirsty MacColl and Karen Carpenter so I agree with pp but my favourite is a deep, rich should so
Mary Coughlan
Florence from Florence and the Machine
Also agree with Annie Lennox

TwoBreakingIntoOne · 05/03/2021 17:15

And agree with Amy Winehouse

RichardMarxisinnocent · 05/03/2021 17:17

Josh Groban
Adam Lambert - I've just watched a cover he did of Cher's Believe, it's stunning

ChilliChaos · 05/03/2021 17:19

Annie Lennox
Serj Tankian (goosebumps when he sings)
Freddie Mercury

Fourcolourpens · 05/03/2021 17:22

Meat loaf in his prime had an amazing voice. Proper hairs standing on end, tingly feeling when I listen.

sassafras123 · 05/03/2021 17:26

Steven Tyler

squashyhat · 05/03/2021 17:26

Linda Ronstadt. So sad that she can't sing any more. Her version of the Eagles' Desperado is absolutely wonderful.

CorneliaStreet · 05/03/2021 17:26

Amy Lee from Evanescence
Lissie Maurus, like a more powerful Stevie Nicks

FatPatty · 05/03/2021 17:29

Nicole Scherzinger and Jessie J

cookdabooks · 05/03/2021 17:29

Robert Plant. Nothing compares.

ImnotCarolineHirons · 05/03/2021 17:29

People I have personally seen live and thought wow:

Sir Tom - amazing tone and strength and masterful control of an audience's emotions too, a real showman
George Michael - such control, really knew his craft
Peter Gabriel - much better than I expected
Best of all - Pink, superb. Especially while upside down flying across a stadium. So strong and also puts so much emotion into her performance

Other singers that are very good and possibly undervalued for their talent (than their fame):
Kelly Clarkson
Jessie J
Chris Martin

ImnotCarolineHirons · 05/03/2021 17:32

And of course Freddie Mercury was incredible but I think he's fairly acknowledged as such. As are Elvis, Aretha, the operatic singers.

I think many of the more poppy style are not given their due when they are really good. I remember Kevin Simm was in that manufactured band (Liberty X ?) and then he went on the Voice later and did Chandelier by Sia and was absolutely incredible.

Tankflybosswalkjam · 05/03/2021 17:33

Beverley Knight. Absolutely unbelievably outstandingly good. She is the only performer who has made me cry, she was THAT good. I watched her warm up with a gospel choir and there was pure magic in the room. Not a dry eye.

Retrogal · 05/03/2021 17:33

Randy Crawford
Diana Ross
Donna Summer
Bill Withers
Aretha Franklin
Barry White

Can you tell which decade was my favourite for music? 😂

Retrogal · 05/03/2021 17:40

And this gave me an OMG moment recently

MrsSnitchnose · 05/03/2021 17:48

@Sgtmajormummy Can't believe I forgot to mention Boy George!

@RichardMarxisinnocent Have you seen the cover Adam did of Lady Gaga's Marry the Night on Glee? Better than the original imo

DialSquare · 05/03/2021 17:53

@Retrogal

And this gave me an OMG moment recently
This was the first single I ever bought! I listen to this regularly. Carroll Thompson is also good for Lovers Rock songs.
WilliamMorrisdancer · 05/03/2021 17:54

@violetmartini

Paul Heaton
Yes! And Jacqui Abbott.
DudeistPriest · 05/03/2021 17:56

Art Garfunkel is another good singer and a great duo with Paul Simon.

WilliamMorrisdancer · 05/03/2021 17:58

Stevie Nicks. Before booze, cigs and cocaine.

Chicchicchicchiclana · 05/03/2021 17:59

Kelly Jones
Elvis Costello
Freddie Mercury
Ella Fitzgerald
Leona Lewis, yes really

CaffineismyBFF · 05/03/2021 18:01

Jamie Foxx and Usher are my favourite voices, and this is coming from someone who likes Bigby Clyro and Royal Blood!
