Blue passport my arse.

DS has just got his British passport, which is very nice, but not blue. At all. It is not navy, dark navy or blue-black, it is just plain black. Which is fine but...why say they are blue?!

As long as I am able to travel, I’d accept a passport featuringBoris Johnson’s ring piece on the front cover

Are you quite sure about that????!!!!

Viviennemary · 17/02/2021 09:18

A market trader was going to be prosecuted for not using metric. That was a few years ago. Even slimming clubs are still on stones and pounds usually.

That's not quite the story. Feel free to research and revise as you see fit.

@Viviennemary

At least we won't need to bother with kilos and centimetres and other EU nonsense. Hopefully.
And of course going back to Lsd too. Win/win.
SoupDragon · 17/02/2021 10:10

I bet the new passports are exactly the same colour as the pre-burgundy ones. I can't find my first passport at the moment but I remember looking at it not long ago and thinking how less blue it looked than I remembered.

Kendodd · 17/02/2021 10:16

And what a shame it only gives him the right to live and work in two countries instead of 31 countries like the old EU ones.

Don't worry! He'll be getting his Irish/EU passport too. Which is much more of a pain in the arse to sort out, mind you.

Shock

That's it, it's time for my middle aged eye test.

Lucky him, I'm pleased for him. The pain in the arse will so, so be worth it. An EU passport is quite literally worth millions. Smile
**@TheYearOfSmallThings missing the point but police officers uniforms are black not navy!!

The passport posted by @whenyouseemyface looks navy to me 🤷🏼‍♀️
@fireplaceburning

Why are they known as the boys in blue then?
And what does the thin blue line mean?
Confused

@TheYearOfSmallThings They are dark navy!

TheYearOfSmallThings · 17/02/2021 10:53

Wikipedia says (re UK police uniform)

The base colour is a very dark blue, almost indistinguishable from black (and recently often is black), which earned the police the nickname of the "boys in blue".

So it seems they can now be either

@GiantKitten well with a husband as a police officer I know his uniform is definitely black!!!

I think they used to be navy!

GiantKitten · 17/02/2021 12:16

@fireplaceburning Google tells me they all used to be dark navy “nearly black” but that some now are actual black.
So that’s helpful Grin

moanieleminx · 17/02/2021 12:19

Black black black

fireplaceburning · 17/02/2021 12:30

Bizarrely husband got some new issue uniform!
So his force is definitely black 🤣

Blue passport my arse.

@londonstone the Swiss passport is stylish but I think this one wins hands down 😁

@splishsplashsploshs ooh also very nice! There’s a website where you see every passport in the world, I must be a bit odd because I find it really interesting. Grin

I REALLY REALLY wish I qualified for a New Zealand passport... :(

strawberriesatmypicnic · 17/02/2021 15:00

😂

BMW6 · 17/02/2021 15:17

I've still got all my old passports back to early 1970's and they are such a dark blue they do look black

moanieleminx · 17/02/2021 15:17

@LondonStone

Received mine this morning and definitely looks black to me. 95% of my wardrobe is black so I actually don’t mind it. Grin

Absolutely hate Brexit and it was a driving factor for us to leave the UK but I’m not too bothered about the colour of my passport tbh. And anyway; the Swiss win most stylish passport hands down!

And I agree!

I must do my application so I can qualify for one of those, and then I won't need to bother with the UK one anymore...

RustyBear · 17/02/2021 15:31

This is my pre-EU passport. Taken against a white background it looks black, taken against a black background it looks blue.

That’s to do with the white point on the camera. Look at the colour of the paper.

And it has nothing to do with joining the EU. I had a black passport and I was born after the U.K. joined the EU.

RustyBear · 17/02/2021 17:46

@StanfordPines - yes, I was just pointing out that it can look different in different lights. It actually looks different to my naked eye against the two different backgrounds.
And 'pre-eu' just meant before the UK changed the colour ro the standard eu one, we were already in the eu (actually then the eec) when my passport was issued.

Kilos and cms are the scientific measurement. We all learnt it at school unless you are v old.
We should just get on and convert and think about what's relevant to those who have recently left education and are now in the workplace. We need to stop pandering to people who don't like change. It's been 50 f- ing years.
