Blue passport my arse.

DS has just got his British passport, which is very nice, but not blue. At all. It is not navy, dark navy or blue-black, it is just plain black. Which is fine but...why say they are blue?!

My ‘blue’ passport from 1990 is black.
It is black when I put it next to something blue and it is black when I put it next to something black.
I don’t think passports have ever been blue have they?
Another Tory lie ! 😉😂

This thread has inspired me to renew mine in case there is a backlog in applications once we are allowed to travel again.

They are turning them around very briskly at the moment. And there is no palaver now you take your own photos, and the countersigning is done by email.

@Redbirds I got my new passport today. Here was the timeline:

7 February - applied online
10 February - they received my old passport
11 February - application approved
12 February - printed and mailed
16 February - arrived at my home

This was a straightforward renewal. They did not return my old passport which I found odd as Canada and Australia always have.

They only return the expired one if you request this and pay postage at time of applying.

So where is DS going in the near future? Pimlico perhaps?

Moonmelodies · 16/02/2021 20:39

Just paint it whatever colour you want.

If so we'll be ready!

We're probably going nowhere (yay) but have to be ready in case elderly GPs in Ireland take ill etc.

Oh is that what I paid the extra £5 for when I applied?

Yes! So you will get it back, but they they post that separately by Royal Mail, whereas the new one comes via TNT.

I agree, very very quick. And despite the blue/black issue, the burgundy front and back feel much stronger and thicker, this new one feels a bit floppy. Anyway, let's hope we can use it at some point this summer!

StanfordPines · 16/02/2021 21:16

@Viviennemary

Anything would be better than that EU crappy cheap looking thing.
You know that the colour of the passport had bugger all to do with the EU?

The old ones were black, not blue anyway.

Theworldisfullofgs · 16/02/2021 21:21

We could have had any coloured passport whilst in the EU . Another myth.

Now people are wanting to bring back imperial and pre decimalised currency. I'm 50 and have no experience of either. It seems its only important to keep the nostalgia brigade happy.

Viviennemary · 16/02/2021 22:49

At least we won't need to bother with kilos and centimetres and other EU nonsense. Hopefully.

Significantown · 17/02/2021 01:18

Maybe its like the fancy car paints. The log book says its red, but for the life of me, all I can see is blue with twinkles.

I got both mine back - separately but within 1-2 days of each other. This was in... October-ish.

gnashingsalt · 17/02/2021 01:50

I’m very happy with my lovely burgundy Irish one

I miss the market traders shouting 'pound a pound, get chor fruit here'.
StarlightLady · 17/02/2021 01:55

@Viviennemary - Having a weights and measures system in units of 10 would be too simple, wouldn’t it? Why do something simple when there is a complicated option? 😤

Thewinterofdiscontent · 17/02/2021 02:29

The best bit of the original British passport was the hardcover. ‘‘Twas solid snd survived any amount of adventures. Disappointed we haven’t got the robust version back.
Everyone I know including me has put the flimsy burgundy passports through the wash at some point.

They still do around here, they just need to list the official price per kilo and can list in imperial as well, then provide you with 0.45kg of fruit for your £1

@whenyouseemyface

Mines definitely dark blue, sorry to crop in so much, but I had put a photo on social media.
Errm, it's black.

Oh FFS.

Yes, let's go backwards. Great idea.

fireplaceburning · 17/02/2021 07:00

@TheYearOfSmallThings missing the point but police officers uniforms are black not navy!!

The passport posted by @whenyouseemyface looks navy to me 🤷🏼‍♀️
